Macross character figures (CM, Megahouse, Bandai) « Thread Started on Nov 7, 2010, 2:10pm »
What's up everyone?
We all know Macross mecha collecting is an addictive hobby to take part in. But the franchise also has its fair share of memorable characters that we all know and love (and sometimes despise). I've had a fair share of CM figs in the past. I recently got into MegaHouse's Excellent Model Series which focuses on Macross Frontier.

That's the thing with Macross and Anime's in general, if there's a hot girl in it you can bet there's gonna be at least half a dozen figures of her in various outfits and poses. Great review though! I think they should release a box set of all the "singers", I remember in the movie Sheryl mentioning how she's just the next person in the long line of singers that included Minmay, Sharon, Basara, it was a nice little easter egg that tied in the various shows.

Well, I guess girl figures are an automatic sell - it crosses over between the mecha fans market and the PVC-girl-figure market. For Macross7, I've seen at least one "common" Mylene Jenius figure (one you could probably still find today) but I still haven't seen a Basara PVC figure even those he is Fire Bomber's lead singer.
On a side note, I must've missed that bit of Sheryl dialogue, but I did appreciate the opening concert scene where the announcer mentions Minmay, Sharon Apple, and Fire Bomber and the respective years they were famous. It really tied in Macross Frontier better than any of "nods" we got during the series (with the SDF4 wreckage or the hint that maybe Sheryl was descended from the island tribe in Macross Zero).
Speaking of Sheryl (and Ranka)... so let me get this straight... for my 1200yen I can get an issue of Hobby Japan magazine and an exclusive figure? Sold!

Maybe that's what I was thinking about, for some reason I thought it was Sheryl talking about herself. Honestly though I fast forwarded whenever the singing started so I'm probably wrong.

Heh - I chose SAL because I figured "it's a magazine, how bad could it be treated during transit?" Well, it arrived fine because Amiami still sent it packed in a nicely oversized box regardless. But the catch is... as is the nature of SAL, my magazine finally arrived after what felt like an eternity.
I'm pleased with the figure - it's as detailed as it looked in the photo. But the only thing was... it's absolutely puny! It's essentially a very nice gashapon (it's about 2 inches tall), which, under normal circumstances, would not be worthy of my attention. Still... it's Sheryl Nome... and she's pretty. So, okay. Plus I got a cool mag which, while I can't read Japanese, it very fun to flip through because as usual Hobby Japan is stuff full of cool photos.

Yes, please! I love Sheryl's white "military" costume. I have the original art that inspired that scene as an "etched" screen-protector on my smart-phone! I didn't even know that was out already... why haven't I seen these for ordering anywhere? Or am I confused about the release dates? (which is very possible).
edit: okay, I just found out the figure you're talking about came out 5 months ago... guess I totally missed the boat on it. Ebay here I come. Gonna be expensive.
