(Moving) 1/48 custom Jetfire & Low-viz+ FAST pack « Thread Started on Feb 20, 2007, 4:13pm »
Hey people,
I've recently moved, and the resulting expenses - particularly on furniture and the like - have severely cut into my gokin budget. Normally this wouldn't be so bad, were it not for the fact that there's several (pricey) items out there right now that I'd really rather like to purchase before they become utterly unaffordable!
As such, I've decided to sell the Jetfire custom I created from a Yamato 1/48 VF-1A Hikaru and FAST pack armor set about a year ago. I'm not much of a Transformers buff anymore - mostly all my TF stuff has been sold already - and I found that I loved the process of creating this piece a lot more than I did the figure sitting in my display cabinet.
This is the first time I've tried to sell something I created myself, so I haven't decided on a price yet.. but drop me a line through PMs should you be interested, and maybe we can work something out.
Wherever possible I've tried to paint on markings, rather than use decals. So the red markings on the legs, gunpod, etc., and the black/red on the feet, were all painted, with some painstaking masking. I also swapped some parts with a few donor-valks, so that I could minimize on paint-stripping and have portions of the FAST-pack armor actually be molded in red plastic.
It also features subtle panel-lining/weathering, a custom resincasted head with red visor, a working autobot rubsymbol sticker from Reprolabels (+ two spares), a standard set of Anasazi37 waterslide decals for the realistic warnings, markings etc., a set of Anasazi37 decals commissioned especially for this custom - with Autobot symbols, "Cybertron" markers, a "D. Witwicky" pilot designation, Jetfire's quote ("Amongst mysteries of science lies the key to victory") in smallprint on the wingtip and gunpod, and "crossed-out decepticon-symbol" killsigns on the nosecone and boosters. I also weathered and painted up a set of the three-missile clusters and a pair of the black, rectangular missile-pods that come standard with 1/48 Valks.
The decals were applied with plenty of Microsol to make them look painted-on, and carefully cut so as to sink even into the panel-lines (this effect is particularly visible on the Cybertron logos on the legs and leg-armor.) The whole thing, furthermore, has been flatcoated to minimize damage to the decals and paint, and to avoid yellowing.
Anyway, let me know if you'd like this dude in your collection. He'd look rather sweet next to MP Optimus and Megatron, methinks.

That is one lovely piece of work Sphexish, I wish I had the room in the budget for that piece. Good luck on your sale. A work well done, a true labor of love right there.

Well, Jetfire's still available, and, based on the initial reactions, and some calculations of the money spent in creating the custom, I've decided to set the price of him at $280, excluding shipping.
Furthermore, I'm adding another rare and custom Valkyrie to this sale, since I've recently - and to my dismay - discovered how much it's going to cost to renovate the bathroom of my new house, which is going to cut into my gokin budget even more.
It's a Yamato 1/48 VF-1A Limited Edition Low-Visibility Valkyrie - that's the first version, not the recent forest-camo one - with a custom, weathered, decalled & painted FAST pack set incorporating the, equally limited, Dengeki Hobby clear FAST pack parts.
The Low-viz itself has never been transformed and has been carefully treated to a low-viz set of Anasazi37 waterslide decals, and a sporadic few Takatoys low-viz optional stickers. The FAST pack has some of its parts swapped with the aforementioned clear (transparent) optional parts created by Dengeki hobby. These parts were applied with white waterslide decals borrowed from the Anasazi37 Max/Miria set, and some more Takatoys stickers (ie. the kill-signs); whereas the normal parts were painted in matching grey and detailed with Anasazi low-viz FAST pack decals.
The low-viz needed no weathering, but the grey parts of the FAST pack were panel-lined, and the interior details - including micromissiles - were also weathered. Two rectangular missile-pods were also painted, weathered, and treated to decals, as were the large missiles that came with the Super Parts set.
Again, Microsol was used the make the decals blend in as much as possible. Also, a small, applied coating of microflat should offer adaquate protection against wear & tear for these decals.
This custom will be shipped in original low-viz box. I'm hoping for about $330 for this one, but feel free to post or PM me with alternative offers. (Trades might also be considered; for the Jetfire as well.)
