I believe it was a display-only custom for the show, and it was definitely the model kit. Bandai hasn't given any indication that they'll do a gold GX-49.

Nice, sucks about the lack of diecast but I'm mainly getting this because it's a nice shelf piece, GX-01R is still the definitive Mazinger for me.

nice review, indeed the belt gimmick seems fragile for the looks of it but the lack of dicast is starting to make me question Bandai for its decisions on the SOC products.

Thanks guys. BTW I thought the gold version was a custom piece for the Tamashii Expo? Are they going to release it after all? Gold

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of doing, too. I'm sure everyone was. I'm not a huge fan of the show, but the opening was badass, heheh. ;D

At best, a mediocre SOC for a less than mediocre Anime series. This one is for the Mazinger Z diehards. I can't comment on the toy itself, but I definately disagree with you on the show. It's easily the most enjoyable show I've watched in a while.

hey Gold, i forgot to ask, does the GX-49 has a waist articulation?
btw, when you making the big bang punch you don't actually need to changer the fist for the other finger sets, if you look closely to his transformation he stays with his regular hands all the way even after transformation.

Got mine today and I think I'm OK with it. It's definitely a fun piece, and looks great on display, but the plastic legs make it feel less substantial and the crappy hip articulation and lack of waist movement is a major buzzkill. However, my only previous Mazinger to this one is an old Yamato gokin that has even worse articulation, so this is at least a step up for me.

Great review Gold!
I hope the minimized diecast content isn't a trend, at least until after Daitarn III.
Thanks!

i prefer the die cast in terms of weight.....and durability also.....my kid loves playing with my toys....plastics tend to break easily.....
