Animated Voyager Starscream : review & pics « Thread Started on Oct 3, 2007, 7:41pm »
JET MODE
-Pretty cool with the new wing configuration... -Deco : purple-ish blue, red, black, grey (behind the cockpit), bronze (faction symbols) and clear orange (missiles, cockpit)... -Retractable landing gears (1x front, 2x rear)... -Missile launchers can be flipped forward for action... -Plastic feels thick and soft to the touch (it doesn't feel brittle but it doesn't feel like rubber either)...
TRANSFORMATION
-More or less the Fast Action Battlers concept applied to a main line toy with a semi-automatic transformation... -Unlock the legs and as you swing them down, the nosecone will retract and the arms will move outward... -The rest of the transformation is pretty much a matter of straightening the limbs and locking the chest to the waist and the backpack to the back... -You also have to split the bottom half of the backpack in two and then swing up the halves; also swing the tailfins flat against the calves... -Overall, the transformation is easy, which I guess is the goal of the line... some could say it's a huge step back in engineering compared to the movie toys, but transformation is effective and quick, which might be a plus for kids and fans who don't like to spend half an hour going from one mode to another... -Reverting back to jet mode is a bit tricky as the legs are hard to lock in place (the various springs are working against you), but once it's done, it's very solid...
ROBOT MODE
-Very faithful to the show, down to the odd proportions and the cartoony face (he doesn't have teeth or lips, it's just a smirk with orange light piping showing through)... -Very good poseability and very stable... -Head is on a ball joint , shoulder rotates (click joints), upper bicep swivel, elbow swivel, elbow joint, thumb, fingers (all 4 together), no waist swivel, hip (click joint + swivel), upper thigh swivel, knee (click joint) and ankle (ball joint)... -A little gimmick has been implemented in both forearms : slide the missile launcher forward and some armor is deployed (a bit like Movie Leader Megatron's fusion cannon)...

awesome, reminds me of zoltar/berg katse in gatchaman/battle of the planets. for whatever reason no TF series since the classics has had me in this much anticipation of the new toys. armarda/eneron/cybertron i liked just a few toys, binaltech too fiddly and serious, movie..hmm, one or two toys i like (i really like jazz) but over detailed and often ugly. these are just plain fun. alongside the new classics and more encores this will make 2008 a good year for TF.

Interesting toy and look quite fun without being overcomplicated. Though still not buying the Team Titans style quite yet, especially for TF. But just looking at the toy itself, looks fun, and has a nice jet mode.

keep those reviews coming! In my mind I've put money aside for the dinobots, bulkhead, and lugnut .I find those characters to be the most interesting in this series.
One point I'd just like to make out.. Most of the TF's in this series look identical to the toy.. most of them falls into this category (so far from what we have seen), except for megatron.

I think all the toys will be extremely show accurate, including Megatron, he will have a Cybertron and earth mode BTW.

seemingly opinions on the animation toys are on the up. remember when the first images emerged? the initial poster, then the toys. Gen 1 whiners had decided they werent transformable, they were going to be repaints from classics and cybertron, they would be bendy vinyl toys, they could never make the vehicles transform into the robo modes, these things suck, these things are retarded (the animation was deemed to be even worse)
looking at the SS toy just brings a big automatic smile to my face, when i look at the movie toys i find myself grimacing and thinking 'damn thats really ugly'. hell even bumblebee 08 is a big pile of ugly clumsily moving parts (and i still got that, clever tf though).
of those ive seen im looking forward to grimlock the most, like a cross between MOTU trapjaw and somekind of bull dog from iron giant land.
