Well, it appeared in what? 1? Maybe 2 episodes of the original Macross/Robotech? It's not particularly well known. It didn't even appear in the refresher movie for casual fans.
I must think that for many chunky-monkey fans it's a little bonus for their currently owned valks... doubt they'd go out and get another valk just to have an armour set that prevent it from actually transforming.
I have my own 1/55 (a Bandai reissue), and that's enough for me. I don't have particularly fond memories to live my nostalgia off of because I never had an original, didn't have a Jetfire, didn't even know what Macross really was until I discovered the Internet.... I'm waiting for the 1/48 one too. ...I'm a completist and I want to have at least one of each upgraded valk in my collection.
...there is no charge for awesomeness (or attractiveness).

your wallet must be thanking you for being that kind of completist.
I on the other hand am a completist in that I want every single 1/48 release in my collection
I really liked the anime I even remember that it used to be on at channel 9 @ 5:30pm then came starblazers then astroboy, in the Phil., talk about a clear example of "diminishing returns"
I've always wanted a clear definite representation of the VF-1 mecha in my collection and yamato's 1/48 VF-1 is the most accurate, most detailed, sturdiest and largest undisputed candidate. So I swore I'd get every released version of it. Of course I don't go over board and by multiples of it just 1 of each

The GBP-1 appeared for about 4 or 5 episodes, most noteably the ep with Minmay joining the Ms. Macross Contest, and Hikaru got stuck in the enemy ship after bombarding it with micro-missles from the inside.
The GBP-1 also appeared very briefly (about 2-3 seconds total) in the first few minutes of DYRL. It unleashed a swarm of micro-missles against a number of Regults.
The GBP-1 is a very well known part of the Macross Mecha line up.
The only problem with it, at least toy wise- was that it was too difficult, and often too expensive to get one. Yamato releasing a far far far far better GBP-1 isn't helping either, primarily because of the price. Im a Macross fanboy, and I'd like all my 1/48's to don the armor, but at the price it's going, it looks like I'll only buy one, and just wait for someone to sell theirs for a lower, much more reasonable price.

To me takatoku are the best , the prices are low nowdays due to the new yamatos , but once yamato stops making their valks the old takas will sky rocket again for sure

Finally got some answers. It is not photoshopped based on what Graham mentioned on MW, it's a custom paint scheme and not a production item. The pics are from the new February 2006 issue of Dengeki Hobby magazine.

With regard to the QR, I don't think it was overpriced.
Indeed. I bought the Queadluun-Rau in Hong Kong for about 30 USD. It's the shipping cost that makes it difficult for most collecters' wallets, especially with the box dimensions of Yamato products. http://www.geocities.com/chogokin_tamashi/macross/max_miria.jpg
I'll try to buy both the 1/48 VF-1J and the GBP-1 armor. However, I won't be due for another trip to Hong Kong soon, so I might have to pay the extra shipping fees.

Hey Roboto!
Congrats on the first 1/48!
It's certainly an awesome toy in my book. The best representation of a VF-1 to date. Congrats on the QR too. The QR is the first real 'toy' from Yamato as far as I am concerned.

Hello all! I'm a newbie here, but have been on the other anime boards for a while. I got a boxed Taka 1/55 GBP set this summer for $100. That was a great deal, but I am definitely looking forward to Yamato's 1/48 release. I agree about the price tag - I'll only be able to get one, but that's still better than zero!
