I think the 4 models in the pic are the very initial stage... there will be alot of changes along the way... if look carefully the models have alot of missing details compare to Sato's sketch... more pic.. Cm's

The also look smaller than the Mazinger/Great Mazinger Ex-Gokins. Granted, these are mock ups/protos, but I wonder if Fewture is manufacturing these bad boys on a smaller scale?

of course your right borg001, this is an initial stage... but I'm kinda worried that they gonna look like their CM's counterparts in the picture above. now that's bland if you ask me

Thanks for the update Gold - didn't realize that the artstorm site already had the Astro Robot crew up. 8" to 9", eh? That will cost dearly.

Anyone know the best place to acquire CM's Productions versions for pre-order? HLJ has no love. I see from CM's website they are slated for Sept release. Maybe it's too early?
[edit]
Found the Boss Palder / Sandiao set at Angolz. Anyone dealt with that vendor?
Also, this looks like a staggered release with the aforementioned set in Sept, and another set with Robo Kress / Bull Caesar coming later. Any ideas for the next release time-wise?

angolz = not ok: -poor customer service, slow or no reply to emails -sometimes sells opened items as brand new -very slow to ship (I had to wait almost a month after the order was placed for "in stock" items)
run away from angolz

hlj.com has been good, very good. shipping is fast, items are packaged well, no complaints at all.

of course your right borg001, this is an initial stage... but I'm kinda worried that they gonna look like their CM's counterparts in the picture above. now that's bland if you ask me bland is an understatement. CM's are ugly, but it is not their fault. These robots are naturally ugly and uninspiring. Absolute eyesores. Now, the Fewture figures are nice. Imagine what Prof. Sato had to do to make these ugly things pretty.

I'll wait until Fewture releases more photos before I decide.....but I have to agree, at this stage, they are bland and not enticing at all. Let's hope Sato did work a miracle to make these figures exciting. Now if only the Getter Dragun were being released.....(i know, I know, that horse has been beaten to death.)

If you think they are ugly, you have the essence of what robots are; ugly!
These particular designs hold some nostalgia for me as the Sandaio/Blocker III was probably the first gokin I ever received as a child.
Go ahead and say they are plain and uninspired, but there is a whole fan-base behind these designs and plenty of folks that want them to be produced, otherwise they would not be making them under both CM's and Fewture's brand.
Peace!

King Joe is an eyesore as well and it made it into the SOC lineup. I disagree that all robots are naturally ugly...only the astro robots. Mazinger, Gaiking, Dancouga, Gunbuster, Vostes V, Voltron, and Dantanious are pretty handsome robots. Nice and interesting designs.

Handsome? While I agree that those designs are pretty "cool", I would not go so far as to deem them handsome. After all, they are robots.
KingJoe... (insert debate from KingJoe thread here)
Just for curiosity, what age range are you? This is purely a question to gauge what era of these characters you were exposed to when you were growing up. I think it's always interesting to see what collectors are drawn to dependent on their age. I am 41, have lived in the SF Bay Area most of my life, and was exposed to these designs and characters from a very early age. I am mainly drawn to classic designs, and could usually care less for any of the robots that have come out since the early 80's, with very few exceptions.

sorry if I hit a spot there sketcher! here's 40 and lived most of my life in Switzerland and Germany, so I wasn't exposed that much to old school robot stuff besides the ever so present Goldorak/Grendizer and some Harlock, Fist of the Northstar and Saint Saiya stuff on television (french and italian program). so again, I'm sorry if I hit your nostalgic spot there! I'm still not up to date with all the different robots and series out there and might not yet developed love for all of them.... but I'm really trying

sketcher, please realize that we all have opinions and different likes and dislikes. If we all liked the same thing, this world would be a very boring place. I am a product of the 70s and grew up watching Mazinger Z, ultraman, and Daimos. Recently with the SOC I have come to learn about Gaiking, Raideen, Dancouga, Gakeen, Voltes V, Combattler V, etc and have watched a lot of these animes recently. I know some folks do not like Mazinger Z and that's fine with me. I know what I like.

yes. I agree that its not everybody's cup of tea. My own opinion though is that it holds no nostalgia for me and thus I would pass on the three.

Maybe you guys took that wrong. Absolutely, everyone is entitled to their opinion. No apologies required. This is the internet after all. Thick skin a must. What I was trying to get at, is what age demographic and collector type do these robots appeal to? I have some strange tastes myself. A lot of the robots discussed on this board do not interest me at all, so I tend to not comment on those. I just am trying to understand the reason some feel the need to enter a discussion only to bash or criticize a certain character. It's not very constructive. If we were talking about a design characteristic or engineering issue, that's one thing, but sometimes it seems like it's just to push a button. I took no offense, just trying to understand.

Sketcher, I don't think the comments are meant to bash or be negative. I think it's people stating how they feel about the Astro Robots by Fewture. I also think that we are all so passionate about Fewture and the outstanding job they do on the Ex-Gokin line, that some of us were expecting something, well, DIFFERENT. After the Getters and the Mazingers, the Astro Robots seem like a let down or anti-climatic. (At least for me.) A lot of us ae not familiar with this series also. But please do nto take offense. Just opinions being thrown around. I kinda like King Joe, but he is far from a fan favorite. And that is cool with me.
