Interesting. I wonder if this means Has/Tak have started getting along with VW again.

no bumble bee was a camaro as beetles are very uncool.
and for the lead charactor (secondary i guess to sam) they wanted a car that people could say was a cool car. and not kid themselves about a beetle.
and chev poured the last of its coins at bay.

Bumblebee is a young robot like in the original series, so a small car suits him. I think the Transformers movie has some contract to only use GM models, not because Beetle is uncool, it's because that car is a VW.

For the record, there were a couple of reasons Bumblebee was a Camaro... the most obvious being the reason that garu525 says: GM poured a ton of money into the live-action movie. How else would explain the coincidence that all the Autobots were GM vehicles.
The Beetle thing in particular goes back a few years all the way to 2003 when Takara started up the Binaltech line featuring the real licensed cars. VW famously refused to license their Beetle design to Takara saying they didn't want their brand associated with a violent franchise like Transformers... we know Takara had plans to release a Binaltech Bumblebee as a VW New-Beetle - concept art showing the character was later leaked to the public (or it was published officially, I can't remember). And that, my friends, is history.

So is that means Transformers were written without first permission from VW for the car design?

So is that means Transformers were written without first permission from VW for the car design? Well if you look at the original g1 toys. They're not exactly the same designs as their real life counter parts. Thats why the movies as well as the alternators were given liscences to use the actual designs.. and labeling for their toys. They do "simular" designs even in video games. Such as Burnout , Grand theft Autoetc. Most games usually use simular designs is because the manufacturers also hate if they show their cars getting blown up... running over people etc (shown in bad situations)

And that, my friends, is history. It was published in the Binaltech book. The prototype BB and Cliffjumper along with Jazz as a Porsche. But the German Auto manufacturers are trying to live down their old rep as war mongers so they were not able to secure a license. However, with that said, it is probably because Takara did not offer enough money or maybe it is fact that Japanese cars are out selling German cars?

Back to the Disney Transformer crossover, I think this idea works better than the Marvel crossover, or even the Star Wars cross over.
I wonder what the third character after Donald is. My bet would be Goofy.

What if the next Transformers movie uses Hyundai or Kia on the Autobots? ;D
Megatron would be delighted as he can crush the tin can Autobots easily. ;D
