Also, the Gx-01R+ has different Scrander, since it is the one from the Mazinger vs Devilman version. It also lacks on most of the accessories the GX-01R comes with.
The main difference is the new head sculpt and lack of chrome.

Ok , i have assumed the GX-R1+ come with the elevator because sometime on yahoo auction you found it in bundle. As for me the best SOC is the GX45 because of the improved articulation range and also because i'm not fond of the chrome mazinger

Actually, GX-01X is the launch base for Mazinger(s) released on April 2000. Gx-01R+ was released on March 2008. Sound like a perfect match as a bundle.

So it's 2014, many Mazinger figures have been released since the start of this thread, and the answers to this question may have changed. In my opinion, the best looking and best overall Mazinger Z toy so far is the DX. However, it's not an SOC, it's too big, too expensive and it's not without its problems. The second best looking Mazinger Z is the SRC, but it's not an SOC, it's too small and doesn't have enough metal. In my opinion, the best SOC Mazinger Z so far, sadly, is the GX-45. I am a big fan of the classic Mazinger Z. I know nothing about the new Shin Mazinber Z. The GX-45 is not too big, not too small, not too expensive, has plenty of metal, has plenty of articulation, has a single great looking Pilder with a transparent window and articulated wings, has a great looking Jet Scrander, has anime accurate head and face, has permanently attached chest plates, his arms and legs are proportionate to the size and width of his torso. My only problem with the GX-45 is that it's not the classic, 70's Mazinger Z, and it's a little bit short in relation to the other SOC robots. The GX-01, GX-01R and GX-01R+ SOCs are some fugly SOBs. Their torsos are too wide, their arms and legs are too small and narrow in proportion to their wide torsos, their chest plates are not attached and fall off, their Pilders have no transparent window and no articulated wings, the paint and sculpt are not great specially in the face, their Jet Scranders are fugly SOBs too and make their torsos even wider than they already are. This is, again, my own personal opinion and it is in no way intended to offend any of the GX-01, GX-01R and GX-01R+ SOC fans here. These figures do have many great things, like their height in relation to the other SOC robots, anime accurate colors, rocket punch cutters, stomach missile, and other anime accurate weapons. Because I'm a fan of the original, 70's classic Mazinger Z, I really wish Bandai would release another SOC Mazinger Z, yes, another Mazinger Z, which would include all of the good things from both the GX-01s and the GX-45, and exclude all of their flaws.

Isn't there a variant of GX-45 that's "manga accurate" or something?

Isn't there a variant of GX-45 that's "manga accurate" or something? I think so. What I was trying to say in my original post is that I want an SOC Mazinger Z that most closely resembles the classic, 1970s Mazinger Z anime that I grew up watching on TV. The DX and SRC do, but they are not SOC. One is too big and the other one too small. The GX-01, GX-01R and GX-01R+ do as far as color, style and weapons go, but not so much in the sculpt, and they are ugly in my opinion. So my personal conclusion is that the GX-45 most closely resembles the 70s Mazinger Z that I grew up watching on TV decades ago, and that's sad because the GX-45 is based on the 2009 Shin Mazinger Z, which I'm not familiar with.

GX-45 is my favorite gokin. It's simple and solid and it has a fit and polish above and beyond most of the other SOC releases. Whether because they took extra time to make things just right, or just because it was their hundredth Mazinger and it was past time for all that practice to pay off, I don't care; it's a great result.
Of course, now it looks like we'll have another chance at GX-01R+, and I like that design enough that I'm not going to let it slip by. The early SOCs have their own classic charm. Except now it's called GX-01R+40, (that designation is getting silly long,) and it comes with the same scrander as GX-01R. Probably a darker blue as well.

I agree that only the people who have had the chance to have them in their hands, or at the very least see them in person and up-close, should provide their unbiased opinion. Otherwise, it would be kind of a mute point. The perfect SOC Mazinger Z would be a GX-01R+, with the forearms, lower legs, and all the accessories of the GX-01R, and the Jet Pilder of the GX-01 (which was actually included as part of the GX-02 Great Mazinger). The GX-45 and GX-49 Shin Mazingers are cool, but I would still go for the "combo Mazinger Z" as described above. }D TMZ you forgot for 01R+ to be perfect it also needs the normal scrander instead of the Devil man vs Maz movie one.

Gx-01r+ is perfection to me, I even like the lighter blue as compared to the og, it gives it more definition in the limbs when in the past the the thing that would catch your eyes after the face/head was the chest plate/crest, with the lighter blue it's visually flows better, you can appreciate every curve of the figure with this color app, better contrast gives the body an illusion of more detail even though it's the same mold as the 01R, using natural daylight only place then(GX-01R+ and GX-01R) across facing each other and you in the middle, take turns looking at them and you will notice the GX-01R+ it's a lot more defined.

Get those! Maybe hold off on the GX-01R, because if this GX-01R+ 40 Anniversary figure comes with all the accessories the GX-01R does, it would be a nicer rendition of Mazinger Z. However, you need to get the GX-07. It is a very, very nice figure. I would even say it is an elegant SOC. }D

The perfect SOC Mazinger Z would be a GX-01R+, with the forearms, lower legs, and all the accessories of the GX-01R, and the Jet Pilder of the GX-01 (which was actually included as part of the GX-02 Great Mazinger). What on earth are you talking about? 1) Wouldn't GX-01R+ with the lower legs and forearms of GX-01R just make it GX-01R? 2) The Jet Pilder was included with the GX-01R. It just sounds like you've described the GX-01R to me
