wow...acoording to collection DX...GX01 was released 1997....and GX01R in 2002...17 years and 12 years yet they're still very iconic in the soul of chogokin genre....long live Mazinger Z!!! Now a days with all the engineering marvel of the SOC line(daltanious, gun buster, god sigma, baikanfu) it's easy to dismiss this little guy, but if you go back to 97 and face this knowing that as far as design, heft, gimmick, ect.. There was nothing that came close to the gx-01 it was an innovation when it was released, when I open the box I was in awe just by the proportions.

Either way, before the gx-01 there was nothing like it, all the great stuff we get today mazinger related or not is made after the bar was raised this icon, gx-01 is the door that this hobby walked into.

Personally I like the GX01R, too bad I sold mine but I want another one. Plus the GX Shin Mazinger because its unique and transform into a fist. Its a bit cheesy but I like the concept that it transform into something else.

LOL... even thou I have the GX-49 and GX-49G, I hate the concept of a transforming Mazinger. To me, it is like making Voltes V a robot that does not combine. Total sacrilege!!! }D

Yes without a doubt gx-01R is the better of the two and IMHO the better one in the line, I was just going back to the beginning, before gx-01R

You guys have to remember that the shin seiki gokin sg-01 shin getter 01 by aoshima was made one year after the gx01 mazinger z! 1998 if I am not mistaken But look at the deference in quality between the two figures! The shin getter was just a superior toy!

Woah! I'm sorry bro, but the Aoshima Shin Getter (or any of the Aoshima Gokin Super Robot figures) is not superior to any Bandai SOC figure. They may have more diecast for sure, but they are definitely not superior in any way... other than the anime accurate paint job they usually sport. }D

The later had more anime accuracy, more metal, and better articulation! I think for it time it was just ahead of the rest! It had clear parts windows to show inner mechanisms man! Not just painted green windows!

The shin getter was just a superior toy! Case in point, the gx01 was surpassed by many in the years that followed by many, even by the same character(gx01R), but in the beginning it was the One! That being said , I have to disagree, the aoshima getter is not superion in every way as you claim, at least Imo, yes a heavier figure, due to more die cast, but better articulation no, proportion are not all there, the shins head is way to tiny to me, not better in gimmicks, not better in packaging and not better pain apps, also not as iconic as mazinger as far a characters is concern, and lastly, this Is a mazinger thread isn't it? Lol

Lol Don't take this personal! I do love the gx01 as it is what got everyone into this hobby again! And got all the other companies to compete! But I have to disagree with you! The sg01 raised the bar wayhigh for its time ! Not in packaging but in Figure it self! Grab both in hands and compare them ! Compare the articulation! You will change your mind I am sure

Lol exclamation point please....Mazinger Z can kick Shin Getter's a$$ anytime!!! lol!!! that is why Mazinger Z is sooooo iconic in Bandai's SOC / SRC line up....hes marketability is proven over the years..... which raised a question in my head....are we having enough or too much of Mazinger Z does Bandai needs to come up with something else???

Total sacrilege!!! }D i can understand how true loyalist could not embrace the idea of a transforming Mazinger Z....but i have to give props to Bandai for thinking out of the box and taking a giant leap on Mazinger's regular features....in some point in time Mazinger (or any other robot parse) has to evolved....he has to fit in the current and future technology.... i could understand watching re-runs episodes how technology was a bit futuristic in those days....but we've surpassed that bench mark....cellphones, smart phones, tablets and even hologram will be the future….IMO, Bandai could have consider Shin Mazinger as Mazinger for this generation….and maybe according to statistics that a transforming toy could generate more profit for them…ok I made up the later part based on the movie by Tom Hanks…”BiG”...rememebr the transforming building....???lol

does Bandai needs to come up with something else??? Yeah, like more Getter. Seriously, it's nice that they made Getter Robo and Getter Dragon based on Armageddon and all, but they lack something the earlier, Toei anime-based Getters had; units 2 and 3. That's why I only own the Toei Dragon so far; I don't want to own just the "hero" mode, I want ALL the modes! Dammit!

Would most Voltes V fans embrace that concept? I'm certain the transforming giant fist gimmick in the Shin Mazinger was one of the things that turned off fans, and contributed to the series being such a huge flop. Not even the modernized SOC and Jumbo figures could save the show. Some things should never be messed with, because they are perfect already. }D

I'm certain the transforming giant fist gimmick in the Shin Mazinger was one of the things that turned off fans, and contributed to the series being such a huge flop Mazinger Z turning into a giant flying fist was probably the least of Shin Mazinger's problems. At least that one was appropriate. If the complaint was something like "Shin Mazinger was basically just Kurogane House: The Series starring Baron Ashura with an occasional Mazinger cameo", the complaint might at least have some credibility as opposed to just the "RUINED FOREVER" kind of cliché that I've heard so many times in the Transformers fandom from overzealous fans who despise change of any kind. And if you wanted to complain about the GX-49, you could just complain about how they removed the chest joint to accomodate the gimmick. And really, your comparison is terrible. If they made a non-combining Voltes, they'd just make it as an SRC and you know people would buy that one.
