They're 1/100 scale if you build Gunpla, so about 7 inches or so.

RX-78-2 comes in tomorrow. Anything to look out for?
As for scale; these lines are considered "non scale" because even though most of them are 1/100 they do downscale larger figures like the Psycho Gundam so technically it "varies by figure."

The misconception on RX-78-2 and why people always get confused as to how small it is. The RX-78-2 is a small mobile suit in comparison to most other Gundams. It’s at least bigger than the F-91. It’s official size is 18 meters. 18 meters is almost 60 feet tall. So 1/100, shrinking it 100 time make it 18cm tall or 7 inches. That’s all. So in comparison to other Gundam like the RX-93, it’s much smaller cause the RX-93 is 23 meter tall. In 1/100 scale a RX-93 is two inches taller than the RX-78-2. Or in real life the Rx-93 would be 15 feet taller than the 78-2. Which makes the Rx-78-2 look small. For the causal Gokin collector, I think most are expecting the Rx-78-2 to be the size of the 93 at 9-10 inches. The gffmc psycho Gundam is unscaled because the gundam itself is way oversized. Psycho Gundam is 40 meter tall. At 1/100 it’ll be 40cm tall or 16 inches tall. The gffmc psycho is more or less 1/144 scale or made to fit in with 1/144
And the box size also throws people off. Like the Metal Build Mazinger Z. The box to figure ratio is off, big box, small figure.

Just be careful with the small piece in the shield (I have the #1009 not the 40th anniversary). Behind the shield there is a pretty small piece (small as a screw) that tends to pop up with out reason (o don't remember why it is there but there was a reason). If you miss it, finding it around is a nightmare. Other than that is a solid figure. Psycho gundam is the only exception (in the MB and GFFMC lines), it's 1/144. That's the reason I'm not interested in them but they look great next to the robot damashii stuff.

be extremely careful taking off the parts of his armor, if you like your figures clean dont even bother changing them

alright i just finished my photography for this and i think its one of my best work this year
here is my thoughts
the figure is so damn gorgeous i like those tiny writing on his body and i like the figure engineering
ton of accessories but i dont recommend trying the other armor parts, you might scratch the paint or even worst break something
i like how they induced two of some parts because it will get some nasty scratches, so you keep one for the clean look and the other one is more like a damage version lol
when you see a "warring might rub off" be sure IT WILL rub off the paint so i dont think you should try it at all
by now you must know that the figure paint is a double edged sword its beautiful but it can and it well get scratches EASILY if you are not paying attention
so at the end i highly recommend the figure i give it 9 out of 10, even if you are not a huge gundam fan like me, every collector must own an RX-78-2 in his collection and THIS IS the RX-78-2 to get
i was going to get the RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. A.N.I.M.E. in the robot spirits line but im having a 2nd thoughts now since this figure is just so amazing
just get it

sorry man didn't see your post
my issue is with the paint as you know matte paint can get easily scratched, so when removing parts it might happen, there is a tiny scratch on mine on the upper chest part (near the shoulder) its not visible but its there
also the arm part (bicep) there is two tiny plastic peg that attached the parts together with other attaching point, mine started showing pressure marks even tho i was very careful with them
so i wont change it any more and i will keep in the way it arrives with lol

Oh wow. I'm sure there's a certain ammount of swapping that will have to be done for review but appreciate the insight, here. That's disappointing.

I'm looking forward to your photos Saud. I love this figure. It was the figure that made me collect gundam (MB and Gfffmc), I bought the #1009 at Amazon for about 120usd almost three years ago at discount and just blew my mind. To me it is perfect, and the fact that it still amaze people like you after all this time is proof of that (being what you may call an old release). Articulation, accesories, die cast and details are really good. The only thing I really missed was a stand to properly display it but they fixed that with the new release.

I still have the 1004 version of RX-78-2, but all this good talk about the 40th Anniversary version really makes me want to check it out. But I'll probably have to wait till next year due to pre-orders and Christmas.

I have 1009 and it is as good as a metal build to me, since it has a lot of die-cast joints. I sometimes see the earlier versions going for expensive prices. I wonder if they have any playability value, beyond the historic value.

The #1004 has a bundle with the jet for the flying mode (dont remember the name), the original #1009 release has exclusive box art from gundam origin. May that's why they cost more.

Yeah, I think the value of the earlier versions just come from being the first SOC quality gokin figures of the original Gundam. Btw, I know that Katoki is a pretty popular designer, but does anyone know why he gets a line dedicated to his arrangements and everyone else (even Kunio Okawara) is just grouped together under Metal Build?
