While the GX-57 looks pretty damn good; the BPX-01 has much finer detail, and what seems like some "weathering" effect. I'm torn between the two, but gravitating towards the BPX-01. ;D

I already have the BPX-01 (the original release), but I also placed a pre-order for the new one. However, I'm hoping that that picture is just a prototype since it pales in details when compared to the BPX-01. I'm praying that the new one will sport more diecast than the original YAMATO, because that one was mostly plastic...

As much as I love my BPX-01 Yamato, it's not a perfect piece by any means, so hopefully Bandai fixes many of the original flaws with this newer version. Not too surprised to see this come out as this is the "Year of Yamato" with the new animated feature & the live-action movie hitting Japanese theaters in December, but the SOC designation is a bit strange. I'm generally a sucker for anything Yamato, so at the right price, I'm most likely down to get this. Note to Bandai: If you're back on the Yamato bandwagon I'm still waiting for my SOP Andromeda & an SOC Analyzer.

This is great news....another SOC I can skip. My wallet is greatful.
However, I don't know whether its the "weathering" effect of the BPX-01 but the SOC one seem a lot leaner/sleeker if I didn't have the BPX-01 I might have been persuaded to get this.
Though I don't really know if this thing is worth $250 even if it turns out to be big and diecast heavy (which is unlikely) Aoshima's Arcadia is big , hefty and could be had for less than half of $250.

Huh guess I was wrong, the SOC version looks sleeker but I think this may be the first regular production SOC I may skip. I love the ship from my youth watching it as Star Blazers but I can't afford the price or shelf space unfortunately.

You didn't get the GX-07 Mazinger? I didn't really like it at first, but it is a really cool Mazinger figure once you give it a chance...

Okay... don't say I didn't bring it up to your attention. The GX-07 is a different kind of Mazinger, elegant and unique on it's own.
Back to the YAMATO, I agree it shouldn't be part of the SOC line, but that is not even confirmed yet... officially I mean. And even if it is, to me personally, is better than the ninja robot that is currently scheduled to come out and which I have no interest in - not like I wouldn't be happier if it would have been Dai Guard, Dairugger XV, Go Lion, Daltanias, Albegas, Dangaioh, or any other cool classic mecha instead of the YAMATO. Unfortunately, I will have to keep on waiting for those.
I'm positive many will save money by skipping this release and others will bite and get it. Would the "nay" sayers purchase it if it was placed on sale for 40% off? I know I would because even if I dislike the mecha, I can't resist a good sale. I just purchased the Big-O and Black Raideen on sale, and those are two mechas that I have pretty much not interest in. But the price was right! Some day I'll get the SRW horsie one and the ninja dude too, when the price is right...

A list of features & some pics from CDX: collectiondx.com/news_item/07012010/soul_of_chogokin_gx_57_space_battleship_yamatoNote: One of the features is "removable panels", so it might still have the displayable torpedo tubes like the BPX-1. Someone there commented that it looks like there's no removable hatch for the torpedo tubes, but the paint in that area is different. Almost like it's a door? It seems like it has a few more sound effects + the theme song. No idea how the size compares to BPX-1, though.

check out the LIVE ACTION MOVIE trailer at collectiondx.com. that ought to make you drool… Quite disappointed at the live action trailer. The CG space battle scenes were better. Can't ever recall where an anime (that relied heavily on technology - eg robots, spaceships, etc ) that was made into a live action film that was actually good. This may be the film to prove me wrong? We'll see Back on topic, I never did get around to buying BOPX-01 (I've seen it plentiful in stock during my stopovers in Hong Kong and Japan) because of it was mainly plastic (as one poster stated earlier). (As one poster stated a few posts back) Hopefully Bandai will improve GX-57 over BOPX-01. This is a no brainer. Consider GX-57 ordered. Buy what you enjoy, enjoy what you buy.

BBTS and amiami have this up on pre-order, although amiami only has it listed generically as "a SOC" without giving the series number, but at least we know it is officially a SOC.

I don't see GX-07 as a waste of an SOC number, as it practically had its own anime separate from the original Mazinger. what really is a waste of a number is GX-50 and probably this one I mean they could have called it BPX-01R or something..... But then again as I understand it, this is from new yamato series so its arguably a new rendention.....probably why it looks a bit sleeker than BPX-01 Personally, the BPX-01 is more than enough Yamato to quench my aesthetic thirst for this cruiser, I'm not really a big yamato fan and would have preferred they issued something else. I'm quite happy with the up and comming SOC ninja bots.
