Just got a brand new one from AmiAmi for $347 shipped EMS. This guy must be either very bulky and/or very heavy, because the EMS shipping was almost $100!!!

I don't think I saw any announcement of a reissue. Warehouse find perhaps?

Big-O isn't my favorite mecha design, but I purchased this figure because I wanted to experience it in person. It can't be argued that it is a pretty awesome rendition of Big-O, even when that character itself is not that appealing to many folks. I guess it's the same thing (but opposite) with the Sentinel Giant Gorg. Not my thing as it reminds me too much of a Gundam. Nevertheless, I may pick one up someday, but it is not really in my radar... unlike the Max Gokin Big-O was. }D

Only problem I have concerning this figure is the potential rubber degradation on the rubber covering the knee and wrist joints.

Not entirely correct. Big O is a rather intriguing and unique design. The mech itself is actually rather tall and lanky through the body. Having a rather wasp waisted triangular shaped torso. The legs also are quite tall and lanky, but rather enlarged in the lower leg. The broad shoulders and massive armor plated arms are what give it the stocky feel. I know some refer to this as a Steampunk aesthetic mech. Which really isn't correct. It's more of a "Art Deco Industrial Aged punk" drawing a lot from the designs of Henry Dreyfuss, Raymond Loewy and Harley Earl among others. I can see where it might not appeal to you as it pulls more from early 20th century US design stylings rather than the more typical and expected Japanese art design. If if you have never watched the show, I cannot recommend it enough. It's something different and unexpected. A fascinating blend of eastern and western animated shows by the same team that did Batman TAS (hence a very similar Art Deco design style.) and much much more thoughtful than you would expect from a western animated show. Personally I love the SOC. just wish I had the upgrade set. This one I never cared for as much. Just my taste. To big and expensive for my collecting habits. I really didn't care for the one chest armor and cockpit collar being a single piece (the SOC actually did it right. The cockpit should open without exposing the guns.) and I understand the rough iron texture they were going for, but bleach! It didn't sell me on it. Plus this set seems wildly incomplete. Why would you put the anchor chains in the set without giving the robot the reason for those chains? The big honking chest cannon! (Kind of like Gokai-Oh's). Those chains are supposed to anchor the mech when firing the big artillery cannon. Why put them in? At least the SOC gives them with the arm cannons, which sorta almost but not quite justifies them.

Yeah, the show is good. Except for that Evangelion-esque ending they pulled The skirt anchors have been used to grapple and capture enemy robots too, not just to secure Big O to the ground while Roger used the Final Stage attack. Remember that ghost-like megadeus, which used moving projectors (mounted on a small plane, if I recall correctly) to confuse others about its exact location. And Roger used the anchors to take the plane down. But yeah, the only time when you see all 4 of the anchors deployed at the same time is during the Final Stage attack. And for good reason

Yeah, had the SOC Big-O for a couple of years now, but it's still in the box. Should've gotten the extra parts set for it when it was released, but I felt it was too expensive... should've know better.

I thought this was the only Max Factory Big-O released. I know there are the SOC version, the Bandai Anime version, and this one from Max Factory. Oh, and an unreleased SRC. Other than that I don't know of any more Big-O figures, other than a couple of model kits. }D

Hmmm? All this talk on the Big O got me to start rewatching it. I do love it's world of missing memories. Kind of reminds me of the movie"Dark City". One thing I had not realized was the Big-O Mecha were all designed by Keiichi Sato, who also designed the stuff from the Mazinkaiser OVA. Lookung at it now you can see someof the design styling similarities. Especially in the MK OVA villain mecha.
Also the more that I look at that MAX Gokin Big O, the more that single upper torso/chest/shoulder plate really really bothers me. They got so much right with this robot. And were so meticulous in so many ways, to get that that glaringly wrong? For those not familiar with the robot, that collar around the neck with the red cockpit piece is supposed to be separate and move separately from the upper chest plate that houses the cannons. And it's not a minor nitpick. It's a key part of the robots design and factors into every episode. It's like if they did Mazinger Z's Pilder completely wrong. Oh gods! Am I turning into one of those really crotchety nitpicky nerds on the interwebz?

Am I turning into one of those really crotchety nitpicky nerds on the interwebz? Not at all. This is just another example of how there is no perfect toy representation of a character/robot. The SoC did the upper chest-collar thing better, but was smaller. But the SoC had a less weird paint finish! Yeah, but it didn't come with the Griffon. But the SoC's extra pack came with the car, plus a ton of extra stuff which the Max Gokin doesn't have! True, but it still misses some important accessories.. See? I could go on forever, hehe.
