Did an aluminum powder to resin mix and here and the post above, are the results. The piece is cast laying horizontal, and the shinier side is the bottom half, while the duller side is the top half.
The aluminum settlers some before the resin cures. Had to sand down the upper part somewhat more to hit the aluminum powder, otherwise was a gray resin only. I tried some quicker setting resin, but it started to gel up some while pouring and only got a partial cast.
I am going to try a couple more trials with a higher mixture of aluminum powder to resin and see where it starts to become too much and won't spread out from the pouring hole. I could pour each side of the molds and then put them together, but gets messier for cleaning up the mold afterwards.
An interesting note on the popy versus mattel grendizer for the sickles. I have noticed on many of the mattlel versions photos that the sickles aren't down to the shoulder.
A little research and found the back nubs on the mattel are 4-1/2" for width, while the popy is 4". And the kicker, the outside holes edges of the mattel are 4-1/2", while the popy is 5". No wonder the mattel seem to show the sickles about a 1/2" to 3/4" above the shoulder, cuz the stinking hole is in the wrong spot and the angle puts the sickle onto the nub some. If the holes were another 3/16" to 1/4" out further, I think they would sit down on the top shoulder area properly without twisting the sickle.

It has been awhile since I updated progress on the restoration. Two bigger items done: Popy reproduction sickles Mold of popy style right fist to add to my modular fists Here are some photos of the damaged original fist that someone took a pair of needle nose pliers to. Guess someone wanted the shooting insert pretty bad. For larger photos: www.teambac.com/shogun_warriors/grendizer/restoration/shooting_fist/The reproduction fist with one of my mattel version sleeves and you can see my recent popy version sickles too. I am not sure if I will make a popy sleeve at any point.

Here is the web directory page of photos on the restoration as I haven't made a web page yet: www.teambac.com/shogun_warriors/grendizer/restoration/Back from October for things to do (gotta remind myself ) Here is the path to completion on the restoration yet. 1. Of course, gotta get the chest piece molded and first cast made.2. Mold custom sickles and cast them up. (I have some magnets coming to see about using them in the handles for keeping together instead of a separate adapter piece. I am using plastic bought tubing from Plastruct.com for the sickle handles instead of the original style for joining.)3. Copy the shooter mechanism from the right arm. I would like to use this with my modular fists that I have done.
4. Fix up the right fist. This may need to be copied. I believe I could patch it up, but would require painting to match. I plan to repro the left and right fist to add to the modular fists/sleeve cuffs. I may use the mattel sleeve since I have it and the red blade accessory for that already. Possibly, later on, I may re-visit and make the popy sleeve. There is not much difference, only down by the wrist area for tighter groove the red blade piece goes into and the angle at the wrist is steeper than the mattel.5. Patch the broken area in the waist piece. 6. Possibly make plastic covers on the feet instead of red stickers 7. Do up a web page showing the process, extra photos and differences between the mattel and popy version grendizer. 8. Clean-up and assemble again. 9. Decide what to do with the waist band sticker. Leave as is. Use Will's gold reproduction sticker. Maybe custom plain silver waist sticker. 10. Try to fix left hand "red blade" sleeve or see about fitting a mattel reproduction sleeve onto it. I added a #9 for the waist sticker and a #10 for the red blade sleeve. Thoughts?

Looking great Bourno! And thanks for making the extra fist, really stoked. I've had the same thoughts regarding the waist sticker. I've MacGyvered so much of my Grendizer already, the old rusty waist sticker is practically the last original, untouched part. I'm tempted to leave it as is...

That damaged fist there makes me scream with rage. Why on Earth would anyone wanna damage Jumbos... I mean, really, these toy specimens from the '70s are so beautiful and nostalgic... why destroy them? I'm all for: Repairing them, YES. Restoring them, YES. Modifying them, YES. Souping them up, YES. Chewing them up like doggie toys, eh-hm, NO. I'm glad there are people in this world, let alone in this hobby, who are dedicated to showing these jumbos lotsa Love and bringing them back to new life. That new fist looks genuinely awesome, great job there bro! zozo-mag

I share your feelings on that as well Magengar.
I'd love to see you eventually patch the original just because it is an original Wes.
Great work on Grendizer. He's really a labor of love. I like the idea of a plain silver sticker too. But I gotta admit that blue lettering version has a real nice feel to it as well.
How are those fist launching inserts coming? You planning on selling them? Or just a custom only?
Spazzerrrrrrrr woot! I want one even though I only have a Mattel Goldorak. Maybe I could do some damage decals and cheap looking welds to make it look like a fixer upper for the cheapened Goldorak Grendizer... lol

The original, isn't an original any longer though.
I thought about patching it and then painting the patch to be close. But, I decided to hack the fist off and fix the bad area with a glued on modular wrist and partial palm copy from the Uni-Five Mazinger.
Attached is the original fist close to done for it being modified and patched to be used as the mother cast for the reproduction mold.
I am quite happy with the popy looking fist, but with the mattel cuff on it.
If anyone is interested for an "in-shoulder" shooting mechanism, let me know. I haven't listed it on my other thread, as I am just quite busy with what I have already and trying to work in time between work travel for some more custom mods.
The Spazer is gonna be quite interesting to say and I hope I don't end up cussing too much for attempting such a kit build. I shall try and remember to take more photos of the progress, starting with the salad bowls when they come in ;D
