I can't remember the last time I've posted a toy purchase in this thread... if Ever. (I've posted new hauls long before this thread was created. lol) At the same time, this will also be my first Robot-Japan TOYOPSY in almost six years! lol
Well, here it is. I've waited over TEN long years to finally have this cool mascot....
Robosapien (ver.1, silver "Robowisdom")
(I'll post more pics later, with him displayed alongside my other bots.)
...I bought him locally, Craigslist-Albany (NY) in my local area near Latham Farm Mall. The guy had the Robosapien and a Roboraptor listed for sale; both for $100 or $50 for either one. Of course I Haaaaad to jump on this deal and score the Robosapien. It was on my grail list for this year, and I was planning to get one by Christmas. Well, I caught Santa at the beach today (I got paid yesterday at work. hee hee) I grabbed him in an Ethiopian Choke-hold and told da b*tch I want a Robosapien after waiting so long for one. lol
14.5 inches tall, weighs 5 pounds... damn he's quite a hefty little critter! His armor is plastic, and this one is a chrome variant nicknamed "Robowisdom" (there are four variants existing in the version 1 line, in different color schemes, including a Spiderman-sapien and a Homer Simpson-sapien). He didn't come with his original box, but the seller handed him to me in a strong deep cardboard produce box along with the remote and an instruction booklet, and a cup object for him to pick up and throw. I haven't settled down to start learning how to command Robo just yet. I'm just wonder-struck to finally have him after all these years since his first release! And, yep, I will design a display base for him... I have two military olive-green Kevlar panels for the base design.
I love the Dance command... it features an instrumental section from the song "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" originally recorded and performed by Dead Or Alive! *^__^* If I could program a new Dance script for Robo, I would make him bang his head or mosh to an mp3 song by metal bands such as Skinless, Section8, or Tyranize! lol As he walks, he has no wheels beneath his feet... just some rubber stubs under his soles that "bounce" him as he's walking. By pivoting his body weight from side to side, the motion assists his movements in any direction, and he will stop when he walks into an obstacle. He can also roam freely, but I haven't learned that command yet.
He seems to have been originally purchased from a Sharper Image store, because the store's name is branded onto his right lower leg, and the designer Mark Tilden's signature is branded onto the left lower leg. Mark Tilden is the designer of the Robosapien toy IR-RC robot, and it was produced by Wowee Toys back in 2004... upon initial release, 1.5 million units were sold between April and December 2004.
According to Mark Tilden, the toy was designed to be easily hacked and modified... the Robosapien has experienced world-wide usage in sports events, educational studies in robotics, and gangs of hack/mod jobs, beyond being just a mere robot "toy".
In 2007, many other Robosapien type variants have sprung from the initial design, in body forms of animals, track and wheel locomotion formats, and upgraded humanoid bi-ped Robosapien versions to this day. New firmware for the Robosapien family now offers support for remote-control via Apple IOS and Android format, available at the Wowee website. Hacker/Mod groups throughout the internet have also written command scripts and programs for Robosapien in the Arduino and Linux OS platforms.
In 2013, a live-action/CG-animated adventure movie was released... "Cody, The Robosapien". The title-character was voiced by Jae Head, and stars Bobby Coleman as the lead character...
I already have a torrent version which I'll watch tonight.
If my SOC DX Mazinger-Z figure were servo-motorized with this Robosapien design, I would have a cool wrestling match made in Heaven!

good to see you active again man
i loved this thing but it was always sold out, i didnt get to get one and now im not sure if i want one
there was a spider man version if i remember correctly
Thanks guys! Yep, slowly but surely gettin back in the saddle. lol
That reminds me, I'd better remove the batteries now before they drain and leak... the guy who sold it to me had put all new bats in it; so I wanna make them last while I learn all the controls.
Anyway, I'll stock up on new bats for Robo this week- I've already gone through all the bats for my DX Maz and I had just bought a new set of 24-pack bats for him as well.

Yes, the Spiderman version still exists... in the aftermarket. They pop up on eBay now and then, just gotta keep an eBay rover actively searching to get results via email notification.
Some members in Robocommunity.com's forum often have some for sale. Just like RJ, you have to sign up and join that forum to access their Sale thread.
At Robocommunity.com, someone did a custom paint job on Robosapien v1 (also known as RS1, for shortname)...
...it appears to be a mini-robosapien figure; because the full-sized version has wires exposed outside of its arms, and this Hulkbuster doesn't have any exposed wires at all.
I've also seen a translucent clear Robo v1 variant, showing its internal electronic guts and gears. Pretty cool to see so many variants of the Robosapien... but I don't wanna get too involved with the Robosapien line.

My RS1 is good fun enough for me.

honestly this modern figures make me think twice about getting this robot and im a spider man fan so if i get it i will get the a spider man version and make it do the silly dance lol

...now, why is he so expensive? It was a release to coincide with the launch of the movie "Spiderman III" back then, therefore it may have been just a limited production for the Spiderman III franchise. Look him up on eBay to see what his aftermarket price range is.
Also, check out this site here... www.robotsrule.com/html/spidersapien.php ....it's hilarious what the Spidersapien can do! lol Here's a movie parody of the Spidersapien...

I've been doing soOo much research for my Robosapien, and found some interesting sites and info on how I can tweak my Robo with the use of infrared transmitters via USB, with a Windows-compatible software such as Robodance, Robodance-Voice Control, Face-Tracking, Robokick (the tweak for the ability to play soccer), and so on. But stuff like that requires additional electronic parts and gadgets, and some basic Electronics and Script-writing knowledge to create new commands for the Robosapien robots, plus I might have to modify the toy to achieve such tweaks. Without any research, it would be a waste of time and money, and I could end up damaging my Robosapien. Just like any attempts to modify the DX Mazinger-Z without Knowing what you're doing could damage it.
There is a way to control the Robosapien under IR device (infrared) such as the Wii remote; but now it becomes an extensive setup and a steep learning curve software-wise, and again, some modification to the robot and gadgets. More time and money spent just to make the Robosapien do something new, or at least act somewhat "autonomous"! lol
I'm still curious about my Robosapien, because of the designer's signature on the leg... is mine a special autographed version, or a limited edition through Sharper Image store? I'll find out. I have a feeling the guy who sold it to me didn't realize how valuable my RS1 really is, other than just purchasing it from a store. I give him credit for keeping the RS1 in such awesome mint condition... from a smoke-free home, and not a scuff, blemish, scratch or dent on it. Even the remote is in pristine shape and fully functional!
In all modesty, I'm lucky to have my RS1 at such a good deal ($50 bucks!), meanwhile Used Robosapiens will fetch anywhere from $80 and up, depending on their condition and fully included accessories.
LATE EDIT: WOW!!!!! I had just learned my chrome Robosapien v1 is the Sharper Image Mark Tilden Signature edition! That means my RS1 is a rebuild of the original Robosapien v1 (just like the Mazinger SOC GX-01R is to the GX-01). The original Robosapien v1 has sealed (factory-glued) armor. The armor on mine is screwed and can be taken apart. Read here... www.evosapien.com/robosapien-hack/jsamans/robo/si_rs.htm

So, the Spidersapien can do some weird things the other robosapiens don't do. lol I'll have to watch the Spidersapiens videos myself for some good laughs, I love that kind of stuff with toys doing weird things, such as taunting house pets!
I enjoy researching about whatever new robot toy I find. Once in a while a friend might come over for a visit, sees my collection, and starts asking questions about certain robots in my collection that might appeal to him. So I always wanna be ready to answer viewers' questions with as much info as possible about the toy. The history of the toy itself, its toy line origin and variants, its development through the years, and end-of-line mass production are what fascinate me.
Like I stated earlier, I've always wanted a Robosapien since its beginning, back in 2004 when the first one was released to the market. I've always had a fascination for robotics and robotic toys, but I never imagined that I would someday own a biomorph*** robotic toy-- but then it became my dream to own one at some point in my life. As soon as the Robosapien came into existence as an affordable biomorph robotic toy I wanted to have it. My Robosapien is growing on my like a Pinocchio, I even talk to it! lol
If a dog is man's best friend, then a robot is a geek's best friend. Robotics is the art and science of imitating living beings of the two prominent forms, animal and human... from theory to reality. It has its creative purpose in film, media, education, music, and art; and it has its productive purpose in science, the military, law enforcement, emergency response-search-and rescue, medicine, and manufacturing. In the right hands, Robotics can be a god. In the wrong hands, Robotics can be a demon. Regardless of how far we've advanced in Robotic Technology in the past twenty years, that technology is still in its infancy. It will be a very long time until Man can become so advanced in Robotics to a point where the gaps are bridged between the spiritual, physical, natural, and digital elements... ...if the Human Race manages to survive and evolve that far. On that note, NO- we won't see any real-life Mazingers or Gundams in our lifetime.
Having a biomorph robotic toy, to me, is like having a pet. I haven't had any pets ever since the mid '90s when I used to raise Norwegian rats as pets. I miss having that personal connection with a mascot. I can't have pets where I live, as my landlord won't allow it... so, why not a remote-controlled robot!

me too i like to have a background about any thing before doing it or talking about it
that huge spider will scare half the kids in my family the sounds its make while its moving is more than enough to keep people away from my room
i think the most advance robot at this time is ASIMO by Honda if any one going to build a super robot it will be Japan because they always working on robotic things
and i like how you quite Dr: Juzo Kabuto when he told kouji with Mazinger z you can become a god or demon
I bought another toy, last summer... a small RC heli mint in box from a local thrift store, paid $10 for it. Never posted it because it isn't toy robot-related, but fun nonetheless. I still haven't flown it nor unboxed it. Will post pics later.
I didn't realize it but I ordered 3 of the Bandai SW 1/12 scout and speeder bikes. I meant to only get 2 of them. Oh well... now i'm thinking of painting the third all black or some other paint scheme.
