Its strange, and scary, to see the styrofoam melt with such new toys. I see this with vintage a lot. I guess its not necessarily a time thing, maybe just a chemical reaction thing (i.e., needs just the right conditions of temperature, humidity, etc.).
Nice job, Gold!

And you're right, except Because it was a Super Robot anime }D That alone nailed it. In fact, it was because it was an oldschool super robot anime. The kind of over-the-top hot blooded thing that just isn't popular in Japan these days, except among hardcore otaku (and even they just obsess over moe these days). They're all about UNDERSTANDING now. The only people who were pissed off about it were those anal-retentive nostalgia fanboys who never want any changes to their beloved changes whatsoever. They were probably expecting a remake of the 70's Toei anime and not something that actually follows the events of the manga. Not just the Mazinger Z manga, but other Go Nagai manga as well, including God Mazinger and Violence Jack (guess where the Kurogane house and Pygman's new character design come from?), as well as some of the Gosaku Ota material (Keroda, Garadoublas). Just curious, what do you think of the Shin Mazinger Anime? For me the Shin series was a fail because it was so badly written, not to mention ridiculously dragging. I'm totally down with Go Nagai throwing in old school characters into the series as it introduces his other creations to a new generation. But the progress of the show itself was just poor and the characters were over exaggerated well past the point of cliche. You can have a ton of characters /heroes in a show and still do it right (look at Naruto or Gaogaigar). Lol... I never really considered Shin Mazinger as "Hot-blooded", as again, the pacing (even in the fights) made me yawn so many times it felt like it never made it past the point of warmed up. Hmm... speaking of using "Understanding" as the main theme for an Anime, as far as Super Robot shows go, Aquarion EVOL and Dancougar Nova come to my mind. Anyone know how those fared in Japan? Its strange, and scary, to see the styrofoam melt with such new toys. I see this with vintage a lot. I guess its not necessarily a time thing, maybe just a chemical reaction thing (i.e., needs just the right conditions of temperature, humidity, etc.). Nice job, Gold! Thanks Myles. Gold

To be honest, I don't actually remember how I felt about it. It was actually the first Mazinger anime I watched, either because it was shorter than the original series or because I wanted to watch it with objective criticism rather than comparing it to everything else that came before. I've been meaning to watch it for a second time since I knew little to nothing about the myriad of Mazinger mythos the first time around so I was completely in the dark about the meaning of a lot of scenes - like I had no idea who Ankoku Daishogun was, so him showing up was supposed to be a big deal but it meant nothing to me.
If you want an example of "UNDERSTANDING" as a theme handled badly, Gundam 00 is the place to go...but that's not exactly the only thing it handles badly, and is actually a good example of how fanboy mentality can be directly detrimental to a production.

Thankfully this set comes with both Ashura and Doctor Hell. Comparison with Mazinkaiser Dr. Hell.(left) It was nice of Aoshima to include both villains in one pack as it instantly completes the bad guy figurines (I forgot to include Gol from the Getter series in the pic but you get the idea. ). Gorgon comes from the TV colors General Dark set. Gold Could anybody please tell me exactly how tall are these miniature figures, without the base/stand? Thank you!

Gorgon comes from the TV colors General Dark set. Gold I wonder why they didn't release Count Decapito(Count Brocken) before releasing Archduke Gorgon. Count Broken appeared earlier in the original Mazinger Z show, and for many of us, he is much more popular than Gorgon. I would love to have a Count Brocken miniature to go with the three villains above. Moby D i c k Toys released a Count Brocken figure, but it's too tall, around 18 cm, not a miniature at all. Count BrockenCount Brocken (Broken), sometimes spelled as Blocken, was a villain from the fictional robot story Mazinger Z that first appeared in episode 40. He is a cyborg whose head was hewn from his body during a car accident and he carried it around with him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mazinger_characters#Count_BrockenArchduke GorgonArchduke Gorgon was a villain who was seen primarily in Great Mazinger, but first appeared in Mazinger Z starting in episode 68 and was a main villain for the rest of the series. He resembles a centaur somewhat, as from the waist up he is a green-skinned man, but below the waist has the body of a saber-toothed tiger. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mazinger_characters#Archduke_Gorgon

So how do people go about fixing the issue with stickiness?
I know someone posted a solution somewhere but I can't find it.

Don't quote me on this, but I remember a while back that some of the guys (could be Baron, but not sure) had discussions on this in a different thread and some end up using a clear paint sealant/clear coat and sprayed a coat on top of the sticky paint. I believe the stickiness is due to inappropriate paint having chemical reaction with the PVC or certain plastic after time (I have a couple Revoltech and Kubricks does that), and the outer clearcoat sort of blocked the stick stuff from oozing out.
But definitely research more before you try any of these, since I only roughly remember that conversation from here, but have not try it myself.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! As I was vegetating in my collection room this morning, I heard something fall in one of my Ikea display cases. When I finally found was it was, I was both shocked and pissed off. The new Ankoku Daishogun (Shin Mazinger version) has to be the worst release ever, even worse than the CM's Brave Gokin Legios! The paint in the open hands were dissolving the sword handle and the sword sheath. Some sort of chemical reaction. My collection room is not exposed to either sunlight or heat, ever. So, I found the right hand's fingers separated from the rest of the hand (the paint dissolved the glue),layin on the shelf. The sheath was next to it, and it had marks were the fingers were touching it. I had Ankoku Daishogun displayed with the sheath on the right hand and the sword on the left hand. I then pulled the sword out of the left hand, and it too had marks were it was touching the left hand's paint. So, if you haven't checked yours in a while, and have it holding anything in its hands, go check it right now! Damn Aoshima rushing this thing out... }|
