Hi All,
A project for a Duke Fleed 1/1 scale helmet build is in the very early stages and is a definite go.
For anybody serious and interested, it will be made available for purchase once the first helmet and mold is completed. No cost is available at this time but i'll definitely provide contact and pricing information when the time is ready.
Included is the initial draft of the helmet. Any and all criticism is welcome and encouraged. i am trying to get it as close as possible to what the helmet should look like including an open visor lift
Please don't hesitate to markup the draft with suggested revisions. Sketch your ideas ontop if it helps. You can PM me directly or post it in this thread.
Again this is just an initate draft. All feedback is welcome! thank you

Bump... because fans really need to see this! Folks here at RJ often fantasize about having their own robot pilot helmets... ...well, now's their chance to make their fantasies a reality. Once the first prototype is made, and a pic posted showing a live model wearing the helmet, that should help drum up interest for fans to own their very own pilot helmet. Keep us posted, and Good luck with your project. zozo-mag

just a minor update.
the original draft (left) has been revised. The changes (right) reflect more of the original Go Nagai design.
The challenge remains with the opening of the front visor. The fin ontop does not allow for the full range of the visor lift.
stay tuned.....

Has the pilot ever been shown or seen lifting his visor in the anime? Maybe that would give a clue as how to work this real visor.
Depending on the thickness of the fin on top, perhaps a narrow slit can be sculpted in the center of the visor from the forehead down towards the eye area... ...so that when the visor lifts it can go past the fin. I dunno......
Something like this...

I think it was shown on a few occasion the visor opening. the great thing about animation is that it doesn't have to work in real life.

That's what I figured... the visor opens up and stops at the fin.
If you could make a cardboard prototype, you could get an idea on how to design that function, until you come up with the mechanism design that will work on the real helmet.

This recent draft, I like it. The lines look so clean... what program did you use to draw that draft? zozo-mag

minor tweak to the visor window. Added more curves and removed the straight lines.

The source is unknown to me. I don't even know myself This is a commission build which I haven't announced yet. I guess the cat is out of the bag now. The design and build itself is not done by me. I just supply the input and $. That's the reason why I have asked others within RJ to throw in their two cents. Fortunately, I was able to find a lot of screen shots and some of the original duke fleed spec drawings. The original spec is what this helmet is mostly based off of. Everyone will have an opportunity to purchase once the mold and first prototype is completed. Stay tuned....

Your new draft looks the best by far. I didn't realize you were involved in a commission build project; therefore you Must keep the source a secret! ;D This is inspiring. I have a toy football helmet which I'd like to reproduce and make the repro copy into a custom Koji Kabuto helmet that will fit Large GI Joe dolls. zozo-mag

WOW!!! Now THAT is starting to look really Awesome! Whatever that grey material is, I like it... I'd like to try building a small custom Koji Kabuto helmet, about the size of a tennis ball, and make it into a coin bank. Fleed fans are gonna love your helmet! Great job, bro! zozo-mag
