True all we need are just links like in Youtube reviews or FB pages just saying "hey you guys might wanna check this place out" nothing blatant or anything just subtle advertising.
Oh and I'd buy a cutaway t-shirt of Tony standing on the RJ logo!

Every so often I do videos called "Sites I like." Where I just highlight places I visit. I record my desktop while browsing, talk about the site, read a few snippets, etc etc. I'll add this site to the list.

I think we should lock the "Toy Vault" a.k.a. GALLERY DX section.
But keep this section open!

I think we all should watermark (or insert a small sign) in all RJ owned pics or pics we post on RJ. We have been posting up some very rare stuff from all eras and I am highly concerned about picture theft.
I would also go back to locking the for sale section. That was one of the biggest reasons I joined this site (aside from the fact that I began to become more involved in the hobby in general). Because the for sale section was private at the time, I knew the chance of bs artists, shady lurkers and scammers would be lower, and any future ones would be found out eventually.
It made me feel very secure and made the community look very tight knit. A lot of other forums I am on also require you to be a "member" (a paid one in some cases) before you can sell anything - which is the case here, but I like the idea of it being private.
Maybe if you can take the for sale section you can set a popup or redirect page to say "this section is viewable by members only, please register with our admin if you have an item you would like to sell". Most of the people that come here for advice or a valuation end up registering anyway, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Just my opinion.

I agree with Mr Ginrai, especially about locking the Sales section... it should remain private and accessible to members only, Buying/Selling/Trading and whatever else related to that. When the Sales section was private it gave us confidence to sell our hauls to trusted members known for positive transactions. Watermarking our own pics is not a bad idea. If member here wants an original copy of a pic that I photographed (Not someone else's pic) they can PM me. Some of the best pics here at RJ have often ended up as a jacket on some scalper's bootleg DVD scam. zozo-mag I think we all should watermark (or insert a small sign) in all RJ owned pics or pics we post on RJ. Going on my own experiences, when I get to a site that forces me to register to check it out, I just skip it and move on to the next. I do agree that the For Sale thread if any of them, should be the one restricted to members only. As far as pictures, I don't really care how other folks use the pics I post here. They can even take credit for them if they wish. Again, that is just my personal opinion. }D

I agree with TMZ. IMO, it drives people away if they must log and register just to check it out. I got here via Google search. I was looking for some info on old Tetsujin 28 robots. I remember reading a thread and then wanting to post right away, just waiting for my account approval.
Imagine how many guys we miss just by not being open?

Just curious why does this or other section needs to be lock? ???If I remembered correctly in the past the other sections were locked too.

i prefer the section to be unlock and made visible to visitors, let them see the topics and discussions at hand to entice them to register and participate in the conversations.
what needs to be controlled imo, should be the sales section, because it is a place that is susceptible to abuse from lurkers and shady sellers, who want nothing more than to take advantage of honest folks in this forum. and if i may add, the sales section (or another dedicated section) would also be great for hosting site advertisers, namely online toy shops, who can generate more income for the forum.
just my 2 cents.

Personally I've never been a fan of sites that lock their threads. But I do agree with locking the for sale section, as means of controlling the transactions. One of the sites I frequent even requires a minimum number of posts before they can post in the for sale section. Gold

Gallery - go either way. SALES - LOCKED

It depends on what you want this board to become. We already have Sale section locked which was the right thing to do.
If you just want more registered users, then having Sale section locked is more than enough to encourage them to sign up.
if you want particpations, then having locked wont do you any good. Those silent folks will sign up and continue to lurk around without posting. Best ways to get them "talk" is to have interesting topics.
Are we going to turn this into TF types of board where we can group buy or have more vendors coming on and offer discounts to RJ members? Will RJ be selling T-shirts or other fans made items?
It all depends on what you envision this board to become so you can plan ahead.

Sale section is NOT locked, at least not currently. The sub forum link is available and viewable from forum subsection home page, click the link for that forum and you can go right in and view the for sale threads.
This is why I had brought it up, the unlocked issue has been bothering me.
I am glad a lot of people agree with me on this idea.

We are such a small group and by locking this, we are alienating the newcomers, casual fans, and those on the fence. The SoC section is the hottest section in here after all
