This SUCKS I would rather BUY ten SOC's version of Golion/Voltron then get the Toynami one for FREE. It's a dated toy based on a 30+ year old toy and any who say it's as good as a modern SOC are delusional and only kidding themselves. The big announcement was that Bandai was going to release a SOC version of Golion/Voltron worldwide, instead Toynami swooped in a bought the license from WEP/CM at the last minute for the license to make toys of all versions of Voltron so it's gone from bad to worse. Toynami should stick with making stuffed toys and leave toys that need actual engineering to real companies and WEP/CM should take their heads outta their asses.

Agreed. C'mon Charles. Pretty pleeeeease? We need to respect the co fidentiality of the info. It could get people in trouble, well find out eventually regardless. Its tough to have info believe me. Ive heard and seen things that would blow some peoples minds...some never materialize and some do. Or you hear about some stuff that can be filed under xfiles lol LMAO Chach... Okay, but if it comes through post... I hate the X-Files BS... throw 10 hints (questions, maybes) out there and only come through with 5 answers... WTF on the other 5?!? Hence, I can't watch every show... Make me go BALD (Already grey because of Wife and Kids)

just saw that the toynami "masterpiece" voltron is being redone with light up eyes. it was an "ok" toy 5-7 years ago when it came out, but even then i thought it was aLAZY design. There was so much more than could have been done in terms or articulation etc...even back then. They are gonna release an out of date toy now with light up eyes? wtf toynami?! if you're gonna spend money retooling the head for the light up eye gimmick, you might as well spend some money and retool those atrocious hips (rear legs etc of the black lion). That is where you'd see the most benefit in terms of articulation. That and maybe ad a knee swivel to the thing, and a sweibeil on the lion head feet in lieu of a real ankle tilt. c'mon here guys?!?! its funny, the best part about the original toynami masterpiece was that it was diecast. unforunatley, its also one of the worse parts because the joints were wholly unable to deal with the weight. i consider the metallic painted plastic version to be the better release actually (despite the nice box etc). i wish a 3rd party TF company would re-engineer the main black lion to bring the thing up to modern standards because the limbs...not much you can really do to make them THAT much better. i'm frustrated this is happening instead of a real industry player/leader getting the license. at least that little dream ex thing got releases somehow .... it BLOWS toynami's masterpiece out of the water in some respects!

I hope this isn't what Collection DX was hyping the last few months? If so that's utter fail on their part.

No they had info that Bandai was getting the Voltron/Golion license and was going to make a SOC and show it off at SDCC of it only to have Turdnami show up at the last minute and buy the license from the brain trust that is WEP/CM.

Toynami often makes product announcements at Comicon and you don't see them released for years if at all. Maybe this one really will happen at end of 2013 because they already have molds. But then they already have the Robotech Beta molds and the Shadow Beta is still a no-show after 2yrs. The 1/100 scale Elintseeker and SuperOstrich are still vaporware after 2 or 3 yrs after samples were shown. The Voltron stand is now reappearing after 3yrs or so hiatus. Shogun Warriors line are just now possibly getting a new entry after the Golion and Dairugger were released 3 or 4 yrs ago. So basically, I'll believe it when I see it.

Thanks for the pics! To be fair it's not a bad toy, it is large and has loads of metal and it is a chance for those who didn't get the first time a chance to buy one now but we could have gotten a SOC, A SOC!!!!! This is a old toy that really hasn't aged well and has been stated before Toynami is notorious for late product releases if they do release stuff. Just the thinking of these two companies is dumbfounding, plus did I mention we could have gotten a SOC Golion instead!!!!!

I think people are pissed that Toynami is known for crap quality, and we already have this toy. It's just lazy.
A real company could have gotten the rights and made a modern chogokin worth collecting. It would have been the hottest thing in robot toys in years. Oh well.
Also Vehicle Voltron is turning into a major sh*t show.
Tough time to be a kid from the 80's.
At least we got Frankie from one-piece :/

I still have hopes for Vehicle Voltron and I am looking forward to the SOC Danguard and the upcoming SRC's plus a bunch of Transformers stuff not to mention the Brave Grendizer although CM has been hit or miss with me. In the end it seems that it still comes back to Japanese companies and Bandai in particular that still releases high quality stuff of most of the stuff we want in a timely fashion. Toynami in particular I have given a chance since they released their Masterpiece VF-1's but it is obvious that they lack the experience and knowledge when it comes to making complex designs. I will say their Beta's a good and solid and I did buy the Aoshima versions of the all three Alpha's (these are junk) and Beta's. But you need to constantly work and release more complex designs to get better at it, from what I've seen all they release are stuffed toys and plastic figures. Why jump into the high-end diecast segment if your not prepared especially come back to it with a 8 year old design when things have progressed so far in this segment. And WHY would WEP/CM choose a company that's relatively tiny with a suspect track record over Japan's largest toy maker that pretty much created and wrote the book on high-end diecast robots? Is it because Toynami is a American company and they would rather have an American company get the license instead of a Japanese one? Is that why they came down like a ton of bricks on Miracle because their a Hong Kong company? I hope not.

I'm really more confused and just can't understand how WEP/CM would think Toynami > Bandai and thus would make a better product. Or did Toynami just pay through the nose for the license and WEP/CM just grabbed the cash and could care less that their robbing fans of a SOC Golion.

There are three things certain in life; Death, Taxes, and the fact that on this day and age, releasing another Golion/Voltron that can't properly hide the lions legs is complete bullsh*t! }[

Front end back end guaranteed investment....who knows, but I'd guess it has something to do with $. and ease of using the of using the same mold. the same mold they've used 4 times in 8 years (not including the happy meal, Juiblille voltron) a mid sized die cast MP Jubillie would've at least been something kinda new, something I'd be excited about.

Yup you know if we got a SOC version Bandai would have added parts to make it Anime accurate = no lion legs showing. Now we get a 8 year old Voltron who on mine the green lion won't stay attached and the whole thing flops forward so much I'm using the sword as a crutch. Plus with the added LED's if it's like their VF-1's if you turned the head to much the light would shut off or even worse break wires or solder joints and wouldn't work.

So disappointing. How long does the license usually last for? (Not that I think Bandai will ever get the license anytime in our lifetimes. We have a better chance at seeing a Panosh Place Voltron reissue than seeing Bandai ever secure that license.)
I also agree with Chen in that Toynami MP Voltron is nothing close to an SOC. Just because it's heavy and made of metal? SOC's have a distinctive look which personify the aesthetics while staying true to the original design of a character. They also don't copy 100% transformations on older products.

Bandai is a large company. My guess is they can put some engineering horses to a very REAL design and came up with $$ figures that said - License was worth a reasonable amount. Toynami already has a history with VOLTRON - the Vinyls and 20th /25th releases. No engineering either. Pull up the old designs and the old BASE... Add lights. Shove all the rest to LICENSING. WEP/CM went for the fast cash that Toynami had no problem offering. And the looser in all of it is the FANS!
