Magengar just to clarify the Mekanda isnt a Korean knockoff, its the real Mekanda robo, its just a Korean guy made it. Mekanda was originally made by a Korean artist? COOL!!! See! Korea's got a good start right there, with that robot! If they had continued THAT trend, and I trust they have, they'd have a nice chunk of the anime/manga fan base that Japan has. Korea's just gotta drop their drama and Git wit da Program, yo! zozo-mag

(*facepalm) okay... I give up.... Thanks for coming to the rescue. zozo-mag To be fair their manhwa's (korean manga) has improved a lot and there have been original artists like Boichi that make orignal story's along with unique art styles......save for Im Dal Young who I hate with a passion!

Interesting... I'll have to check out some manhwa online. Thanks!
I already dig the art style of Chinese and Japanese manga. Would also be nice to see manga styles by other Asian countries as well.

Baron, if you are curious about Korean Super Robots. There is currently a book out there about them. It is titled "Korean Super Robot thermoelectric" (ISBN 8959754137). It is in Korean, but based on reviews it is interesting enough that I purchased one about a week and a half ago from Amazon.com seller JPN.
Although the seller is in NY, the book ships from Korea. So it will take 2-3 weeks to have it delivered.
Once I receive my copy, I will try to provide a review on a separate thread.

I bought this book while ago from Aladdin.us now known as bandi.us Korean online book store. Lots of cool pics like movie posters cells and manga. The author is very honest and objective as far as copying Japanese super robot. As he says it,s something that,s very regrettable and is of a dark period in Korean animation. He says short of apologizing to Japanese creators I think. He also says the director of taekwon v is still in total denial...what an old nit. I do still love taekwon even if he is copy. The book is either little too technical or my Korean is too primitive as after while I gave up in boredom. It reads like a history book...a boring one. If you want, I can tell you the jist ofwhat I t says if you provide the page number... It,s a good fun Korean super robot bible or and reference book even if you don,t read Korean. So there,s mistranslation on the title of the book...it should translates as "heated battle"...not " thermoelectric". Although they can be translate both ways.

No wonder Thermoelectric sounded odd to me when I saw it on English websites. It seems that everybody used the same machine translator. Honestly, I do not read Korean. But after seeing some sample photos from some review sites, I knew that I have to have it. Knock-offs or not, these Korean super robots are old enough and obscure enough that deserve some attention. And personally I put at the same level as Aoshima's old knock-offs. Old enough to be respected. Also correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the author or source contributor involved on the Great Wooroemae? (I think that the guy's name is Lenono).

The author,s avatar name is PennyWay. He,s real name is Cherin Sehng. The illustrator,s Logname is Lennono and his real name is SahngHuhn Hahn. Lennnono has an extensive blog about Wooroemae at his Wooroemae.com. He works as a concept designer for video games. The book also includes a poster with every conceivable Korean Super robots. It also has sticker sheets with all the KSRs in super deform. Both sheets are illustrated by Lennono also the book cover is done by him. The 349 page book has at least one color pic. They do give proper credit to which Japanese Super Robot which KSR copied as it is undeniable when you just look at those pictures.... It very obvious. Also as a Korean national, I do feel bad and will take this opportunity to apologize to my RJ bros and who cares to listen on behave of that Chung Ghi Kim, the director of Taekwon V for copying and worse, denial....

Ah, that explains a lot. Thanks! Although I cannot read Korean, I am quite familiar with Lennono's blog here: blog.naver.com/lennono, and his contributions here: wooroemae.com/. I am still looking forward for my book to arrive. I know of a handful KSR, and curious to see more. Heck there are even some customs that I might be interested to create or commission. As or Chung Ghi Kim, as far as I know he also copied Wonder Woman. And the funny thing is that the enemy forces that she battled were the same forces that Tae Kwon V battled against. Speaking of Tae Kwon V, wasn't there an new animated series in development a couple of years ago but then was suddenly cancelled?

I'm not familiar with any of the other Korean super-robots, except of course Taekwon V... so I regard TV (Taekwon V for short) as a mainstream super-robot while the others are unknown to me.
I don't view TV as a rip off of Mazinger-Z, even though both robots look almost identical. The one outstanding thing I like about Taekwon V is his ability to fight as a martial artist, because the pilot is a martial artist. So then of course TV is gonna move with the same punches, chops, and kicks that the pilot can do.
If I could have a Taekwon V action figure right now, I'd take it as a complimentary nod to Mazinger-Z. As for any kind of media or anime for Taekwon V, I'm curious to see the CG-animated movie after seeing glimpses of those CG-rendered model samples and test footage.

Guys , we might talk about this topic for hours trying to make the image of korean super robots shiny but the fact remains that all of these were simply a horrible rip offs of the original japanease super robots ! And most of them were done many years after the original japanese superrobot was aired and all of them were horribly ani ated / written! I remember the mazinger X (korean one horned grendizer) , eh ! That thing sucked so hard you can't even imagine!

My opinion differs greatly.I happen to think they are in fact very cool.I love Iron Man 007 and Goldwing even though they are ripoffs, they have an attraction of their own, some weapons they use are very unique also. But we all have different opinions,I hate most Super Robot anime made after 1985,besides spinoffs of the classics like getter armageddon and Mazinkaiser..some would say that is crazy. But there is something endearing about the Korean shows,NOT ALL OF THEM,but the earlier ones. The later ones are all horrible square gundam ripoffs like most of the Japanese shows later on.Im just attracted to the aesthetics of classic robots no matter where they were made,Goldwing is actually very well done..take a look.
