Heh,after re-watching the cartoons' openings, and combination sequences, and fight/finishing move sequences, in English, Italian, and original Japan GoLion,I see why as a kid there was some confusion in pinning down the coloring sequence of the facial features, and why the face is argued about today, LOL.
There definitely is four main ways the face is colored in all of the openings and combos, fights,in the same 30 seconds. 1: All blue forehead, blue eye mask, and blue nose, silver lower face. 2: Blue forehead, Black eye mask, silver complete nose and lower face (seen a lot in the show) 3: Blue forehead extending down front of nose, black eye mask, silver sides of nose and lower face 4: Blue forehead extending down front of nose, black eye mask up sides of nose, silver only lower face(This Mad toys voted version)(seen a lot in the show)
the forehead gem gets a few different treatments of color, and it's own little top band occaisonally. So,...I submit: No more arguing over what is "correct" for any toy, as it all ends up as variants from whichever rushed and underpaid art team was assigned the sequences to color back in the original days, LOL!
Nice review JoshB, and thanks for feeling excited enough about the toy that you exhausted yourself trying to get a video out for the antsy-pantsed, heebeejeebee crowd, Haha!
Toy looks great. One area you can really see had to be a design decision to make it different from official, is the red elements on the upper outside edge of Black lion's shoulders. Normally, that red would probably be on the INSIDE edge of the shoulder to line up with the red chest panels. It's pulled off nicely on here though.
Also, glad seperate molds were made for Red & Green bodies, so Green has rounded shape, Red has squared body.

After watching the review in high definition this is what i think the Black lion look more bad a$$ than i thought more like a tank, the face isn't like the promo picture but its good Suddenly I cant look to my toynami voltrons the the same way now lol The only thing I really hate is Heads of the grean and red lions not turning and we must turn the forearms to make it pose right The only negative things in my opinion is the head, the green & red lions heads not turning now I wish if they didn’t including the lion head shot gimmick, but I can still live with it I will just wait until they update Asia with EMS shipping then I will preorder it in a heart beat

Actually we have no problem with WEP, just Classic Media, Classic Media invest the Voltron Force and have a few years right for the licensing of Voltron. I told you guys before, we did apply the license of Lion Force with Classic Media, finially they choose toynami because they not just take theDie cast figure, but a lot of accessories license as well. so, they think that was a better deal, what can I say. but I can't believe they use the old mold for the 30th edition. I think Voltron Fans deserve a better one. oh, sorry, really talking too much. you are right Toynami is just milking it with the same figure for 10 years & that's not right for both sides

ALbegas is complicated in scale. difficult to make a good looking transformable albegas Actually, not really. The beauty about ALBEGAS is that it "splits up" in components for every transformation, sort of like Vehicle Voltron/Dairugger XV. That means that it can be a parts-swapper and still be awesome. Evolution Toy did a pretty decent job with their version, but missed a couple of things like the "steel sphere hanging from the crotch", and the huge holes left uncovered in the bodies used for waist and hips. But overall, they did well. So I know that you guys can do MUCH better indeed! }D

Great review, Josh! Like you said, the MadToys, while not an anime accurate representation of Golion, is still a majestic figure. Now, I have to sound off regarding the comparison with the MP Vehicle Voltron. It's not very fair to compare a big and heavy diecast combiner figure that is made up of only five components, to an even bigger and heavier(?) combiner figure that is made up of fifteen components. Could the MP Vehicle Voltron be better? Of course! But I really don't see how any company could make such an articulated, heavy, and large combiner, as "solid" as the MadToys KOB without sacrificing a lot of articulation in the process. Maybe I'm wrong, but not even the Bandai SOC combiners (with a lot less combining components) are as solid as the MadToys KOB. }D

Still, after seeing KOB, it will be interesting to see how Mad Toys' interpretation of Dairugger XV might look and feel like.

Precisely why I subscribe to my own in hand reviews. But thanks Josh for giving us a look and some solid info we can use. As for me I LOVE this toy!

Well, the orignal MP Voltron came out in 2005, and it WAS awesome. But this is so much better. It hasn't aged well, and to be honest, what I look for in a toy has changed over the last 10 years. The Mad Toys King of Beast is a great toy for where I am now in my collecting life. And it's a great toy overall. Consider that until the Toynami Masterpiece came out in 05, what was the last Voltron we had? This was the first one to take the Voltron design into the modern era of engineering. It was great, and while I still like the toy well enough, this new one blows it out of the water. I shook the toy because I wanted to show the comparison of the sturdiness between the two. And I don't think Nostalgia is the "IN" thing. Nothing we do is IN. And what is producing high-end toys of 30 year old robot designs if not nostalgic? BTW, written review is up, look at the pretty pictures. www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/king_beast

still neg. the license with WEP........... What? WEP owns Bismarck? Afraid so, mah man, afraid so.... I don't know that until now when I read the wiki information which Kamenrider provided in that link. I can't remember when it was aired in the U.S. as I was still stationed overseas during the mid '80s... " Sabre Rider and the Star Sheriffs" ( yet another stoOopid American name!)... For a while, after my discharge from the military in '88, I remember it was broadcast in Puerto Rico under that same corny-assed American title. So there it is: another reason why I despise WEP. zozo-mag
