Looks like Raideen went from being the inspiration for Rahxephon design, to trying to imitate it, LOL
Or, maybe one of the newer Gundams. The Megatron comparison above was a good one.
I can see the Raideen design cues all over this thing, but you have to stare at it a while to find them, buried in all that layered plating.

No way that this is from the late Dr. Sato! This time, not a Happy Dayum... but a Pissed-Off Dayum. lol ..... Seriously. That looks nothing like Raideen. It looks damn good if it were its own robot character. But it certainly does Not look anything like Raideen. I can expect to see something like this drawn by a fan and posted at Devianart, and I can easily forgive it as fan-art. But here it is, about to be produced as a toy line figure... looks like a friggin Gundam, Megatron, Gorg, Captain Earth, RahXephon, Patlabor, whateverthefk all mashed into one ...thing.... like a crab cake. I'll go easy on this: ...it looks like a gray Combattler-V on steroids and hormone injections. And, whenever I see modern robot toys all sculpted in this familiar mech design it gives me the impression that this look is nothing more than a copy-cat trend to attract today's anime fans to the hobby. Anime fans aren't stupid. They may spend tons of money here, but they aren't stupid. They can see thru this. I look at modern robot toy lines today, and this is all I see from one toy to the next, regardless if you have two or three robot toys from three individual manufacturers, that mech design has been around for the past few years it's become visually generic. Robot toys from back in their day, dating right up to the '90s, had such unique visual flare and dynamics that you could barely walk into a hobby store and literally distinguish each and every robot toy from one another and STILL get Wowed by their presence. I don't feel that dynamic excitement, looking at this..... thing. I tell ya what, if I put this thing on my shelf next to my Revoltech Dangaioh, and my MT01 Dairugger XV, a visitor will look at my collection and say " Wow, nice Gundams!" That aint no "God Bird"... that's a jive turkey. zozo-mag

Well... I'm a complete stranger to Raideen, I might pick it up one of these days. But on design alone, I think reVolVer nailed it. It's the "Michael Bay's Transformers Syndrome". Let's call it MiBaTraS, or something. I dunno. No matter how ye wanna call it, it's the same as Transformers: it's like a guy picked up the toy, threw it against the wall, fragmenting it into a thousand pieces, and then tried to put it back together with crazy glue. Ta-Dah, Bayfied design! With that said, I don't completely hate the design on it's own. It's just too different from the source material, along with needless detailing. Reminds me of this: www.internationalhero.co.uk/t/tetsujin.jpgs918.photobucket.com/user/1988senna/media/5.jpg.htmlBecause EXTREEEEEEEME!!!11ONE "Designed by Tetsuya Nomura" There, now where's my cookie?!

Got some pictures from Wonderfest of the Reideen but can't upload to this archaic system. Looks interesting.

Well the Tetsujin 28 & Tetsujin 28 FX are two different robots. So they are meant to look that different even though they are under the same family. This Raideen however every time I look at it, I see Gravion. Which is not even related to Raideen.

Anime fans aren't stupid. They may spend tons of money here, but they aren't stupid. They can see thru this. I beg to differ. Masses will always be dumb and manipulable. It's exactly because people keep throwing money at it that they keep making those designs. It's a fad that'll last as long as profit keeps comin'.

I see a Super Robot Taisen Orginal Generations mecha there. The layered legs seem to be inspired by the Huckebein/Exbein series.

Meh, these Katoki-ish designs tend to blend around too much. Like it's been said, it's an aesthetic style that became generic pretty quick, most likely due to saturation. I can like some of them, like the ultra-badass (IMO) Huckebein Boxer, but overall... meh. Just... meh.

I like this take on Reideen. I was never a fan of his original design - skinny legs and arms. And the Bandai SOC releases were terrible, IMO. It's good to see Reideen as imposing and, well, powerful looking. I think once we see the painted product, he'll look more impressive.

There you go! I bet somebody could photoshop Rushbird to EX-Gokin Raydeen's color (or vice versa) and we wouldn't be able to tell the difference! Good catch!

That is what I have in mind too, a SRW OG design. I also see a little trace of the SRW MX Garmraid. (The side head plates, the pointy red shoulders, yellow chest fins, knee shapes..etc.) I think they tossed out too many signature traits of Raideen's design (the Egyptian sphinx head shape, the straight arms and legs design). It really just look like a meshed up Gravion/SRW OG super mech, with just little bit of Raideen (mostly in colors). Its not a ugly design, but it is not a good Raideen re-imagination IMHO.
