Are they making less SOCs? I recall the DX Mazinger Z not selling out this fast. Same with the first two Voltes V's (the 40th Anniversary one is now impossible to get). Or are these toys just more in demand these days?

They don't pump these out by the millions, but I think with regards to the ones you mentioned they were just the most popular characters in general or just regarded as must have by fans.
You know for a fact that some robots are just way more popular than others. And that definitely contributes. While some of the less popular SOC may be some of the best ones made, they are ultimately there as filler, because a designer/fans wanted the character, or for completists. Plain and simple.

i would like to add the popularity and the availability of the robot call the shots, for example from the 40th anniversary figures only Voltes got reissued because the demand was insane on the figure also the last voltes released was the GX-31 respect for volt in box back in 2008 and that version price is in Fewture gokins territory along with the original GX-31 so it became kinda hard to get it for new collectors on the other hand Mazinger Z and Aphrodite A are every where are on reasonable price also when a 2nd figure come out that kinda complete the 1st one prices are going up for both

I'm still kinda confused.... Isn't Mazinger Z more popular than Great Mazinger? If so, why didn't the DX Mazinger sell out as fast as the DX Great Mazinger. Same goes with Voltes V.... The first GX-31 took a long time to sell out and so did the GX-31V I believe. And again, why is the 40th Anniversary Voltes V version selling significantly faster than the first two versions? Maybe they are not just making the same amount.

No. Scalpers is the first reason. The second is that sometimes character popularity can change as new toys are released.

Mr. Ginrai.... Wow, scalpers are the #1 culprit?

In my opinion I would say so. Sometimes it is pure demand, but nowadays, on hot items, or limited ones, I think it is speculation.
Speculation (wanting to flip a hard to get /new item at a higher price) is the number one reason an item sells out quickly (even if the scalpers are not the majority of the total number of buyers).
Think about how often you see items like 40th voltes or super shogun boba fett, etc. hit eBay and similar sites at hugely inflated prices.
It's a common trend with anything collectible. Basically this is why you need to budget. If there is something you really want, you don't want to be the guy that is saying "damn I need to wait for my paycheck next week but the toy is already available" or "I don't have the money blah blah".
It's not about being rich or poor. It's about being patient with your money and not buying too much junk stuff that you don't really want. Being calm and saving for a big purchase is one of the hardest things for many collectors to do.
Then you don't have to give your money to the scaplers.

Maybe they are not just making the same amount. When the Mazinger Z DX released it was thought to be a very expensive special edition 1 shot. So really only the true fans grabbed it. It was a major cost, took up a lot of display space etc. it took some time to build momentum. But the Great Mazinger stood things on their head. Max Z wasn't a one shot. It's a new collectible series. So everybody is now jumping on the bandwagon. This happens a lot with high end adult oriented collectibles.

Hello faelon.... That totally makes sense. The Soul of Chogokin line is the first high end toy series I started to collect. I started collecting them 15 years ago and yep, it did take a while for the line to ramp up. Wow, will it now become a norm to purchase $500+ toys? I remember freaking out when I bought GX-04 for over $200 in 2000.

I wonder how much shipping for this will cost from HLJ. All I know is that they're usually cheaper than Amiami and Nippon Yasan when it comes to EMS or Fedex.
