On the Google+ "Voltron Community" I read that Mad Toys was formerly known as Miracle Productions. Is it possible that the KOB was designed by the makers of the Vehicle Voltron from a few years ago? It seems kind of hard to believe. we talked about that in the very first MT thread, the are not the by the same company, i also remember that miracle productions said via their member ship here they have nothing to do with it

I've spent a lot of time learning from old posts since joining R.J. but I must have missed that.

According to the link Bader posted, the Chinese source of those pics say they have that black version in stock? What?
I guess there's always the chance that even if the official license doesn't happen they're still releasing this through back doors?

you know how china rolls Gold ,they just dont care about the Copyrights concept, i dont blame them specially when the copyright owner is been totally stupid, we were crying for a decent voltron for ages and we just got one why because they saw how the KOB destroyed the other official releases

Recently there was discussion of the quality/durability of KOB on the SOC Voltron forum. I like to stay on topic, so I'll respond here. I was lucky enough to order mine early and get the twin sabers and numerical stickers. It's been magnificent. I did have 1 QC issue. 1 of the LED cannons won't light. Golion only had 1, so I don't care.
I Showed it to a doctor that I'm friends with. He's older. He'd never seen a Super Robot before. And the name Voltron didn't ring a bell. But he collects nice stuff. He asked me how much I paid for it($290 after shipping). He said "That's not a bad price for a work of art".
As for the Durability, my greatest fear came true with this one. I keep my robots on my mantle above the fireplace. They're away from kids, and all of my visitors can admire them. While I was reaching for one, I bumped KOB and he fell 5 feet onto the carpet. It even brushed the tile wall on the way down. You will not believe me when I tell you that it is still mint. Nothing busted. Not a scratch. The touch of metal wings had avoided the only flaw of Golion in my opion.
Because of its durability, this is the one I show people who are interested in my home display. It's not quite used as a toy, but its joints have put the to the test many more times than I'd like to admit. The ratchet joints are quality. The lions joints are still stiff at all of the many points of articulation. People are still amazed by the high kick.
I preordered my SOC Voltron on day one. But this beautiful redesign of Voltron has left its mark.

thats exactly what i meant by Bandai have alot to do to take down KO B
the KOB not just beautiful to look at, its well engineered and if you are lucky to get a QCs free unit then you will love it even more
mine fall couple of time on its back (i was doing some hardcore dynamic poses) and nothing happened no scratches no broken parts and thats how durable its
when i get the SOC i will do a very detailed comparison between the two

It's all true, and more. I collect these with my 7 year old son. A lot of you may hate me for this, and I hope I don't get banned from RJ for admitting it. But my son actually does use this as a toy. He knows it's special, and he understands that it is a thing of value as it's got a prime time spot atop our display. He's very careful, but he combines it and and plays with the lions freely. This is the ONLY robot I would ever do this with, vintage or contemporary. It really has worn astoundingly well. S_Gokin, in my experience with the KOB you do not have to worry about it getting messed up by a topple onto your posing surface. It's really hard to believe.

KoB is a good figure. It has some cheapness to it and the paint is not as good as it could be. Overpriced at $250 plus. Still miles better than vehicle voltron. It was a good stand in until Bandai Voltron came along. I love the the ratchets on KoB and I hope Bandai will incorporate that into their Voltron. I know Bandai can do it. Their hi-metal R monster is full of ratchets that are smooth and give off a quality feel. If Bandai can build Voltron to the hi-metal r monster standard then we have a winner.

Coletronlol dont worry man my niece love to play with my Fewture Juohmaru, and she play with it like a doll it still holding good too tturbozx66 i honestly dont think the KOB is overpriced at all, the figure size is good with decent articulation, alot of diecast and ton of accessories its a fair price, we still need to get the SOC in hand to do a fair comparison between them

Sorry to go off topic, but can someone please tell me where I go to learn about posting pics? I'm lost. I have some photos of the KOB with the twin sabers that I'd like to contribute.

My retailer just canceled my preorder for this item, saying it will no longer be released. Can some of you confirm that's the case?

If that is true we've got a new holy grail for many collectors. There are some pictures of one on the Google+ Voltron Community. I don't think anybody uses the Google+ app, but it's worth checking out. There's a new version KOB that appears to have been photographed by a collector. The pics are well done but not professional, and I haven's seen them elsewhere.
S_Gokin - Thanks for the instruction for attaching pics. And I appreciate your vote of confidence on my admission the other day. I felt like Pidge coming out.

Any new update regarding the release date of the licensed version? It's 99.9% certain that a new "licensed" version is not going to happen. MT likely jumped the gun and read to much into some early conversations with one of the Licensors. (Who may not have been the actual license holder from what I can tell from those postings.) there never was an official license. Just the faint hope of one. And that hope died when Bandai stepped in. MT had a faint opening because Mattel's license was ending. And if Bandai had elected to not step in and place a bid, maybe. But Bandai is not only the big dog in the room. The shark in the red water. They also had prior design and development work waiting to go, allowing them to pull the trigger very fast. And an apparent desire to use this subject to more deeply penetrate the North American market with their product line. And let's not forget that Bandai's previous classic release remains both their all time best selling Chogokin and the license holder WEP's best selling license. So MT never had a chance there. It was Bandai's license to take or turn down. WEP is likely still kicking themselves over the bad decision of Mattel. It doesn't matter how well designed the MT go kin is. The economic realities will trump it. I still bet we will see a Version 2 release, sort of. It will sneak out via auction sites and Hong Kong dealers, just as the MMC VV did. Someone in China will use the tooling. But getting one will be challenging and expensive. Entering into the shady world of black market robot dealers. (Don't joke. My first job out of college the CEO and President got popped by the FBI for importing bootleg Gobots. We still abuse them for it. "Damit man! Where's the street cried? Couldn't you at least go for Transformers!?!") Really the the only true hope for an official release might have been MT getting into a sub license or distribution deal with one of the other players. Much like OriToys did with Toynami. But that likely was not really a cost effective option (hence why Toynami is with Ori). Plus MT shot themselves in the foot with their prior 3p/bootleg release. Some players may purchase or license or distribute a 3p design. Even Bandai occasionally does it. But never ever one that has already been released under grey circumstances. Too many IP questions and points of exposure. If MT had a license when they released V1, someone may have stepped in to sub and redistribute it with MT as an OEM. (Much like Matchbox did with the Popy/Bandai). But without it? Nobody would touch that for fear of product being seized at the docks or a demand to pay for the prior releases licensing and damages. Not worth touching that tooling. You don't take ownership for somebody else's bootleg. Ever! If they like the Bootleg that much they hire the designers to make something new. So yeah, stick a fork in it. It's likely done. I hope nobody paid up front for pre-orders. Take this as a lesson, do not pre-pay for vaporware products that have shaky foundations and no actual license, and no firm ship date. No matter how cool they seem.
