2018 has been a year of great releases. My two favorites based on sheer awesomeness, and the "Wow" factor are a tie:
• FEWTURE EX Gokin: Reideen the Brave (Ultimate Godbird Set). It's a departure for the EX line in style and was executed perfectly, imo. The articulation is sick - an 11" figure that holds a high kick is a rare standout.
• Action Toys "HEAVY METAL" Mazinger ZERO. This gokin is insane. My unboxing pics are on the way.
But these were limited releases. For an overall "mainstream" chogokin, I'm going with MB Mazinger Z Infinity. A Metal Build Super Robot is a welcome addition. I love the design and extras. Experiencing this reimagining in the theater brought lifeling memories. A+... my vote for "Toy of the Year".

1. Sentinel Riobot Shin Getter 2. Bandai Metal Build Mazinger Z 3. Neca SDCC '18 TMNT Movie Set 4. Sentinel Riobot Mospeada Stick 5. Bandai SoC GX 60R God Sigma Some non Gokin toys on my list, but that's just how I am. Despite a minor issue with my sample of Riobot Shin Getter, I do love it a lot, and it is my favorite piece this year. MB MZ is a very close second. Attachments:

I’m waiting on my Riobot Iron Giant BUT! Here are MY list of “contenders.”
Riobot Shin Getter Black ( The BEST Shin Getter figure ever...things to watch out for: right elbow joint is catching on his forearm and not folding...careful)
MB Infinity Mazinger. ( a beautiful rendition of the character in METAL! Again, the feet need to be metal, panels fall out if not careful. The neck really should bend more....really)
Riobot Iron Giant. (Don’t have it yet, but I heard nothing but great things...be getting in few days. And I will pick TOTY 2018 from this bunch)
5Pro Taekwon V. (A perfect metal toy for around $100! A Ton of metal and ton of silky joints without worrying about joints getting loose over time. Only it’s hands, his headband and the neck is PVC. Bravo!). As far as things to improvement on this figure would be, please keep striving to rid of poison PVC from our figures. And maybe the sculpt needs more artistic license to make it... prettier?
D.C. Grendizer. (Loaded just loaded with metal. One of the densest figure ever! So freaking heavy! At around $150, it’s a really really nice figure. Cons: sh*t clicky joints on knees...secondly, the head sculpt could even be more close to the "source." Left elbow pops out too easily sometimes. Thirdly, There is no reason his hips should be THAT restricted in movement.. lastly, what is UP with rattle on his left foot?)

i have a great idea guys
the top 3 figures of the year should have a photography thread where members share their top 3 photos for each of those three figures
its not a competition its just to get more activities in the forum
what do you think ?

Is 5 the limit? It's my first time submitting a list so I'm not sure on how things worked in the past.

Okay, thanks to S_Gokin for clarifing the rules.
I'm limiting my list to robots because I don't want it to be messy if I included lines like figuarts, Saint Seiya... etc.
That said, I'm making 1 exception to the rule...
Obviously these are the figures I got this year, I chose not to buy certain expected like the GX-76 because I already own a version I consider the definite of Grendizer... at least for now.
I also skipped the Metal Build Mazinger, last month I went ahead & preordered the Great Mazinger from the same line & now I'm looking around for Mazinger at a good price. lol
The List:
1 - Metal Build Aile Strike Gundam:
I always thought that the Strike Gundam in Seed was a very underappreciated mobile suit by the fans because it was eventually overshadowed by the Freedom & later on the Strike Freedom designs.
For me this is the best Metal Build release to date by Bandai, the heft, paint application, shelf presense, and the option parts that started with the Gunbarrel set make this figure my #1 of 2018.
2 - GFFMC Wing Zero Endless Waltz:
Gundam Wing was my introduction to the series & even though it has a special place in my heart I couldn't favor something nostalgic over another equally impressive piece like the Aile Strike.
Truth be told, I originally planned on making them both share the 1st spot because I can't sing their praise enough.
The Wing Zero has endless (puns awaaaaaaay) poses on the shelf whether in its mobile suit form or bird mode & it's one of those pieces you won't get bored from playing with.
3 - Soul of Chogokin Neo Nautilus
I didn't grow up watching Evangelion but I did follow Hideaki Anno's other work in Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water & I was fascinated by the world, conflict, moral debates and of course the freaking Nautilus & eventually the Neo Nautilus.
The ship is slick & beautiful as I remember her to be & the diecast felt so good in hand.
The special effects are a new gimmick that added value of an immobile diplay piece, in a way it brought the ship to life whenever I played the theme song or clicked on the canons sound effects.
4 - Metal Build Astrea Type F + OP Weapon Set
Let's be honest, that unique color they uses with mobile suits like Virsago, Epyon & Justice twisted my arms & I'm completely fine with it.
Much like the Wing Zero, the Astrea is an item you'll evolve OCD trying to figure a perfect pose for due to the numerous accessories it comes with & I'm not even talking about the insane OP Weapon set they decided to release for whatever reason.
It's not like this unit has a shortage of weapons.
I wish it didn't come with a loose left arm though.
5 - Sentinel Hulkbuster (Limited black edition)
I didn't pick up the original figure but I always appreciate the comic book aesthetics it had so I kept it in the back of my head & as I was searching a toy blog this guy came up as a Wonder Festival exclusive.
I forgot about it for months until I was checking screen captures on my phone & you bet I overspent in 2nd market.
It's a huge piece & it's very tempting to start a comic line around but I have to fight that urge.
It's the same reason why I don't buy any of the MCU figures because I know it'll have a domino effect.
6 - Soul of Chogokin Megazord (SDCC Ver)
Thanks to one of the guys here, I was able to find it at retail price on ebay.
It was a gamble but the seller sounded experienced so I gave it a go & thankfully he delivered.
I never got the original release so I can't tell if there's any difference other than paint application but I love the diecast amount & majestic look when it's combined.
7 - Mezco Iron Man (MDX / NYCC Edition)
This figure & this line is the exception to the "robot" rule because it's a remarkable figure & I really wanted to get the list to 10 figures but couldn't. lol
This is my first ever Iron Man figure & Mezco brought their A game when they planned this guy.
The classic look & the matte black finish make this figure stand out & I can't wait for a Doctor Doom white outfit to stand next to this guy.
7 - SDX Ryuki Dragon
I'm a Gundam guy & I'm fascinated by their SD lines, particularly the ones that mix the mobile suits with feudal times.
SDX is a niche line within Bandai where you get 1 or 2 figures a year & this year it was of the former as we only got this guy.
This guy larger than his typical SDX counterparts, he has that pearl finish on his white parts & a flat one on the black.
I like his as a mini Gundam Dragon Caesar because he has an adorable transformation gimmick.
Speaking of which....
8 - Soul of Chogokin Dragon Caesar
If anyone read my posts in this figure's thread then you'll know the emotional attachment I have with this guy & how I never got to own him growing up because it got sold out quickly.
Frankly the limitation of the design hinder posing & articulation but overall it's a great shelf piece especially in the Battle Mode.
9 - Metaltech Goru Goru
What's there to say? I have a Grendizer figure & he needed an enemy.

Oh man, it’s so hard to choose this years TOTY out of my top five....it’s incredibly hard. But after a much play and going back and forth and back and forth...
D.C Grendizer.....such a well balanced figure. MB Mazinger Infinity...did you all know the cod piece is metal!??( just don’t ask how I found THAT out...just don’t) 5Pro’s TaeKwon V....the best joint “feeling” and material integrity. No squeaks and creaks. Feels amazing handling this figure. RiobotShin Black...all aroundly impressive figure, if there weren’t for couple of minor issues that other figures don’t have, it should been TOTY easily. Iron Giant Riobot....Damn, there is NO fault on this figure. I TRIED to find a reason for it not to be a TOTY 2018 and I can’t.. therefore my vote goes to~~~~~~~~.........................................…………………………
Iron Giant!!!! Congratulation Sentinel, you did it again for me The two Runner up goes to TaeKwon V ( oh come on! Don’t give me that...) D.C. Grendizer!!
Any of these five figures will make you giddy. I truely wouldn’t know which I would save if I only had one to choose But Riobot Iron Giant is Truely truely an exceptional figure at an exceptional price. And it’s STILL available

My favorite this year would have to be the Metal Build Arbalest.
The Aile Gundam from the same line was also fantastic but without either candidate, I would happily give it to the Mazinger Z. Yeah, Bandai's Metal Build line has been a benchmark for me all year...
