Do most of you collect all of the SOC's (from GX01 to 26) or just some of them? I collect them all but I don't get the special editions (like the black and whites).

I have all the regular ones except the original girls (might go back and get them if nothing new comes out soon) and GX-01B, GX-02B, GX-04B, and GX-06M.
Since Gaiking doesn't come out for another 2+ months, I've been thinking about getting some of the older special colours like GX-01RG or another Black version.

Actualy I surprize myself for not developing Pokemon (Gotta'catch em' all) Syndrome with SOC's. I have one Mazinger GX07, and that's enough. The Maz villains, and angels didn't even cause a blip on my radar. Last summer I found a Soft Garage T-28. That killed the need for the SOC issue. Likewise with Combattler. I have the old yellow joint Popy edition, and the newer SOC just kind of leaves me cold. On the other hand I can't wait for Gaiking. I'm looking forward to a new/old photo shoot with the GA and SOC editions of Daikumaryu and Gaiking side by side. JWM

I have no predictable habit when it comes to my fix for SOC's. When it all started in 1997, it was more of a novelty thing, nostalgia...wow Great Mazinger and Mazinger Z. Then I took a break from them for a couple of years, regretting the fact that those years cost me money and time. I remember walk up the hill in ChinaTown (SF) and seeing GX-03 and The Yamato in Chinatown store windows, but didn't buy them thinking that will be to expensive If I get into something, again. But then I couldn't stop the addiction, bought and bought until I got them all, but honestly I try to buy the ones the appease to me, but they all seem to. The color variants don't really do it for me, but oh, well.

I am collecting the SOC line in the same manner that you are. I have not bought any black variants. Just make sure you get the Black Eva, cause it is not a variant, there was a black eva in Evangelion. If I ever get caught up on the regular socs, I might get the black versions, but that has yet to be determined.

I do have the black Evangelion, GX-21. I am caught up with all of the SOC's, from GX-01 to 26 (color versions only, though I have the Combattler V in b&w as well). However, I am missing the Yamato ship (I heard that they are going to reissue this, hurrah!!!) and the new Akira bike (is this worth getting?). I have the PX-02 Masked Rider Cyclone on hold at my local shop--I am trying to bargain with them on a good price (around $35).

My SOC collection comprises mostly of Go Nagai's SR's.
Mazingers: - GX-07 Mazinger Z OAV - GX-10 Boss Borot - GX-11 Dianan A - GX-12 Venus Ace
- Mazinkaiser Black Overseas Version
* Looking for GX-01R, GX-02/R, and GX-08 Aphlodai to complete my Mazinger army. IF I don't find an original Aphlodai. I'll settle for the Angel version.
Getters: - GX-06 Getter Robo (original colors) - GX-06M Getter Robo (chrome) - GX-18 Getter Dragun - GX-19 Getter Lyger - GX-20 Getter Poseidon
- Shin Getter One (pearl repaint) - Devil Wing Shin Getter One - Neo Getter One
* I'll be picking up the Neo Getter One Trainer from another RJ member this week, as well as the Shin Getter 2004 metallic version to complete my Getter Army.
Grendizer: - GX-04B Black Grendizer
I only have two non-Nagai SR's in my SOC collection. - GX-03B Black Combattler V - GX-23 Zambot 3
I never collected ANY of the EVA's. To me, the EVA's are NOT 'Soul Of Chogokin.'
... yes yes, I am old school!

I seriously need to pick and choose - not because I want to either. I live in a tiny appartment and simply don't have room for all of them. But on the other hand, like many, I'm just not that interested in some of the designs. I collected only the Mazingers (and Grendizer). I also have a few of the Evangelions. But that's about it. More recently, I got all 4 of the MA version fembots for the hell of it. But in all honestly, I got into SoC for that warm-fuzzy feeling of nostalgia. And quite frankly, none of the non-Mazinger series bots give me that feeling. I didn't even know what a Getter was until a few years ago.

Wow, I am quite surprised to hear that most of you do not have all of the SOC's, from GX-01 to 26. Based on your comments... I can totally see why you don't collect all of them. I guess my obsessive personaily just kicks in when it comes to theses robots. I just have to have all of them, regardless if I know or truly like the robot. Thank god that I am only into the SOC line because it is so easy/tempting to branch out and get other brand items. I must focus, I must focus... And save money. I am so glad that the SOC line does not release a robot per month. I would be perfectly happy if they just come out with 3 a year.

A lot of us here collect more than one toy line. For example, my main collection is Macross toys and merchandise, and female figures. That's why I only chose to collect specific SOC's. Others have space issues, and what have you. ;D

Just like Omni said, depending on how many lines you collect you might not have the money or space to collect all SOC's.
For me I stopped collecting Alternators/Binaltechs when I realized that I really only liked the G1 designs and MP Prime is the only one that Takara will make that has it, so I sold them (not Prime though). I also sold all my Toynami Robotech stuff since I was running out of space (I might pick up one 1/48 since I do like Robotech/Macross and these are the best you can get).
I never got into SOC's thinking I was going to try and collect them all, but once I got Grendizer then I watched some old Mazinger series I had to get Mazinger and Great Mazinger. Same with the Getters and then all the rest, getting one lead me into watching the old shows and wanting new figures based on them (Gaiking is a perfect example).
Besides, I never had any of the old Shogun Warriors or Godaikin stuff since I was into Transformers and G.I Joe, so all these SOC's are the first time I have these robots to own.

I'm on the boat with the last two posts. It is a question of money and space and toy lines...I collect almost anything collectable LOL I have RC cars, Video games, computers, cameras, etc. I collect 12" bbi, dragon, etc. I have maybe a foot of walking space in the room I designated as my collection room...oh, wife and two, soon to be three kids! ;D ;D ;D

Some. Theres a number of reasons - space being the primary concern - but I also perhaps grew up in the wrong time and place. I certainly appreiciate Mazinger and company, but I'm afraid my heart was stolen by Macross-era mecha onwards. If theres a design I like the look of - ZanBot and some of the Mazinger Angels, for example - I will probably go for it, though space really is tight (need to investigate more shelves soon!) . I do really like the SoC Evas, and regret not picking up more when I had the chance, even though my space issues make multiples of what is essentially the same toy a bit of a luxury! Of course, if they ever make a SoC Valkyrie or Big Dai-X, just don't stand in front of me when they announce it, you're liable to get trampled...!

I'm trying to collect them all because each one of them is so unique regardless of what version it is. Since I started to collect them on Nov last year, I guess I have to do a lot of catch up. At the beginning, I got my very first GX-01, two weeks later, I had a chance to get about 17 different SOCs at one time thru a local store. It was really both fun and pain experience because I had a wonderful time playing with 17 SOCs and I had a terrible time when my bills came in. After that, I try to limit myself for only one or two SOC one month. But you know, sometimes it's difficult to tell myself not to buy another good-looking SOC!

...I have one Mazinger GX07, and that's enough. I agree, except I have GX-01R. So that's really the only (specifically) Mazinger I'm really interested in getting. An exception would be the Black version because I have a weakness for black repaints. Same goes for Mazinkaiser and Great Mazinger GX-02R. Since I have it already, I won't be going back to get the original GX-02. I'm still on the fence about the EVAs, even though I've heard a lot of good about them, but I'm sure I'll at least get Unit 01. And although I have all the original Mazinger girls, I still would like to get the Angels because they're so much different than the originals (and nicer, imo). So basically, I'm not an SOC completist. *and my wallet thanks me*

Getting most releases, but not all. And no re-issues or paint variations for me, or robots I don't care for.

I got all of the regular release and the GX-01R I almost broke this trend when they started releasing the Evas.n I though "when will this end?" but thankfully/hopefully I've seen the last of the Evas and Eva related characters in SOC. Eva fans are probably saying the samething about Mazinger.
I'd get the variants as well but what's the point of getting the exact same toy just, blackened? when you can get other cool toys out there with that money. I'm big fan of SOCs but there are other die-cast / non diecast toys out there that I'd like in my collection.
I'm considering getting my 2nd variant the Minerva X "Angel version" , but most likely pass on this for the Akira bike PX-03.
I'm eagerly anticipating the re-release/ release of the BPX-01 Yamato. GX-27 Gaiking and the aoshima Aliens 1/72 diecast dropship w/ apc, and 1/48 valk GBP armored. Soooo many toys soooo little time and money.

I'm picky with my SOC hunting. Really if it doesn't have the look/feel of an old Shogun/Godaikin I'm probably going to pass (like the EVA's) and I really don't care for the black editions...
