I wasn't going to get this but these pics are looking pretty good. I don't have any combiners in my collection but now I am considering getting this. I will have to go to CollectionDX.com to read the reviews about the others. Thanks guys.

Thank you for posting those photos!! I myself wanted SOC Voltes V to be bigger at least the size of Dancougar but I have accepted the fact that it won't be. I justcan wait for it to be in my shelf and in my hands.
BTW which magazine did you get those photos from...Dangeki??

i dont really care about the size... So long as it has all the bells and whistles. That way I can have my old version and new version stand next to each other.

i guess it is a sign of the new millennium. smaller things versus the 80s craze. i have gx-03 and it is nice and it could be even nicer if the original godaikin didn´t ever existed. but it exists!so the godaikin is the schwarzenneger and the soc is the dany devito like the in twins movie!

Photoshop Gurus,
Can you use Photoshop to put some color on the SOC Voltes Crewser prototype?
Thanks!

I think alot of people think the SOC Com-Battler and Voltes as a step backwards compared to their larger Godaikin version, but I like to think there a big improvement over their GA and GB counterparts ;D

Well the accessories(Goma,Chain Knuckle, and String) are a designing improvement over the Godaikin ones in my opinion. And anyway we're judging GX-30 already by the prototype pics and it hasn't even been released yet. We'll have to wait to see how it will turn out.Who knows it might not be better than its Popy counterpart but it can be way better than GX-03. What about GX-23(Zambot 3)? Is that a step backwards or step forward to its giant gattai Clover counterpart?

I guess size does matter? I think not. What i think some of us are missing is that when we were kids the size alone was appeasing to us. Afterall, things like detail, poseability and loyality to the anime was all taken a back from the extreme durability and overall "cool" toy look of this the Godaikins. I had a Godaikin VV as a kid along with a few others, I played with them forever without really caring too much about how Bomber was nothing like the anime, VV's fists shoot. etc. It was just cool. I think we tend to forget about this simply because this darn toy will easily set you back a grand when acquired today. I'll be damned if I let my 3 year old play with a toy that cost me a grand! But SOC's as we all know is meant for the adult collector. No loud mouth kid in the commercials for these toys. They are built not for shock and awe but for the detail and accuracy that entices most adults. It serves to give nostalgia towards the show and a added consequence to the toy(s). So what I'm saying is we are comparing apples and oranges. Also it is useless to wish, or perphaps you may want to rethink your wish to make it similar to the Godaikin that preceeded it since that is really not its purpose. There are some that may be using this release as a "chance" to own the highly rare and expensive Godaikin VV (especially those of us who are Pinoy who elevated Voltes V second only to Christ! I'm not going to hell for that, am I? ;D Actually with folks buying 6 - 12 of these, you may as well buy the Godaikin one! I think if that is your purpose, you may be into one heck of disappointment. Those of us who want to get GX30 because we thought the Godaikin was lacking and this is a form of redemption then I think you will be pretty satisfied albeit the length/height of this toy. Now those of us who wants GX-30 for the appreciation of the overall aesthetics of a nice toy, things look promising! BTW, Vultus was also the hideous US rendition of VV that was "nasty" the highly accented Pinoy English translation was more entertaining than watching the US version...Jaime (Megumi Oka) with New York accent???

I agree with regards to the Godaikin/SOC thoughts. Indeed they are apples and oranges. Though I look back with nostalgia at the toys I had and though they have a space in my heart, I really did not like the look of it. Even when I was a kid, I thought "Why do some of these robots have their name/logos on their stomachs!? The anime doesn't look like that!"
So for me, I would pass on the minimal gimmicks and trade it in for the appreciation of anime accuracy and aesthetics as 00silvergt has mentioned above.

Anyway we have to let go of the past and accept what's happening in the future. Missiles are becoming scarce and anime accuracy is arising. Don't forget anime accurate gimmicks too.

I totally agree, even for arguments sake the SOC is 1000% bettter than the Godaikin version, if you where a kid and your parents bought you a Godaikin Voltes, getting a SOC version is not going to give you the same feelings you had when you first opened the package of that old Voltes. MP Prime is vastly superior to the old G1 Prime, but there are times when I play with the old figure that I think this is the best Prime ever made. Nolstalgia and memories are very powerful when it comes to collectors.

00silvergt: You make a good point about the difference between the Popy/Godaikin toys and the SOC issues. The old toys were, well- toys. The SOC pieces come very close to Franklin Mint stuff. Yeah, the detail is wonderful and the sculpts are anime accurate, but these things wouldn't survive ten minutes in the hands of a real kid. Not to mention that very few parents are going to part company with a hundred some bucks for an 'action figure' for a ten year old. SOC's are shelf-orchids made for adults. (and I use the term "adults" loosely) JWM

when I was a kid I liked the GODAIKINS because that was what was available then..but in my 7 year old mind...it was asking...VOLTES V DID NOT HAVE firing fists in the cartoon..WTH? why did they make him copy Mazinger z? hehehehe but I am just looking forward now for the SOC version of this Voltes V...Color version...black version, and even the gold version!!!!

anime accuracy = realistic = eye catching = SOC ;D
I myself do enjoy the look of the amine accuracy SOC line but also do appreciate the old school toys, if wasn't for them the new toys probably wouldn't exist, beside that, it does bring back the good old memories and don't forget, many of the toys today are kind of taking the idea from the toys back then on "How it's made"

Kevin,
You mean as far as how they are put together and not what materials they used right? Because they definitely use less metal nowadays.
