So 45caliber, this is all Christmas presents right? You never had any SOCs before that, but your wife decided not to get the BMW so that you could both get more robots.. Nice.

45caliber, kumusta? I also make regular trips to Hong Kong and shop for toys there. Where do you get your toys from in Hong Kong?
I'm not into collecting Hong Kong exclusive items unless it's something I really like. For example, I want to get a pair of GX-03 Combattler V Hong Kong exclusive diecast lancers. Last year, I saw a pair of the lancers selling for 380 HKD (49 USD / 2,570 PHP). I would've bought it if it wasn't for its condition (i.e., scratched with the box dented).
I can see why you buy Macross items in Hong Kong. Toy shop dealers there have the least expensive prices than anywhere in the world for Yamato or Bandai Macross products.
On another note, I find it somewhat peculiar about your not opening boxes to inspect the contents. From my past toy-shopping experience in Hong Kong, I've bought three items there where the dealer either said or had a sticker on the box claiming the item to be 100% new, but it wan't until I returned home and opened the boxes that I found out otherwise.

"you toucha my SOC's i breakah your face ;D ;D ;D

45caliber: So, basically what you mean is that you do open the boxes to inspect or occasionally display and admire your SOC collection which you then afterwards put back in the boxes. From your previous posts, I had the impression that you didn't open the boxes at all. For all you know, the toy dealer could have put a rock in one of the boxes. Okay, I was just kidding. I find the prices at animate somewhat expensive. If you don't already know these places, you can try shopping for bargains on the 1/F and 2/F at In's Point Centre on Nathan Road in Yaumatei. A walking distance from In's Point is Superman Toys where you check out the impressive SOC collection on display. (Shop 222, 2/F CTMA Centre, Sai Yeung Choi St.) Furthermore, Sino Centre's basement and 12/F have a number of small toy shops. Wanchai also has Hung Hing Toys, Toy Zone, and a number of shops on Sugar Street and the Oriental Building. In any case, before making a purchase, check the contents of the boxes - well, that is if they let you. In the past, I had similar thoughts about the condition of boxes, but I found that boxes are difficult to maintain in mint condition. First of all, the boxes deteriorate over time and are prone to scratches and dents whenever enroute on the flight or just handling them. It's already a hassle maintaining SOCs (i.e., the ones inside the boxes) let alone worry about boxes. If you don't plan to resell, then why care so much about boxes when you have the contents on display? Would you rather look at the boxes or the actual toys? Second, you can ask and get discounts if the boxes are damaged. I saved 15 USD for a Yamato Macross 1/48 scale Valkyrie with a slight dent on the box. I used some of the money to buy a Fast/Strike Pack Set. Lastly, some boxes are not even worth keeping. Yamato's boxes have the worse design. They take up so much space that it's a logistical nightmare trying to find space in my room for them. When the Yamato boxes do find their way in the garbage - hell, they take up half the dumpster container!

When the Yamato boxes do find their way in the garbage - hell, they take up half the dumpster container! thanks for the tips for some local hongkong shops.. will try to search for that.. too afraid to be lost ;D ;D i'm not familiar with hongkong that much.. it's only the 4th times i've been there.. and yep animate is a little bit expensive in terms of its price.. but it is the only store that was close enough to my uncle's hobbyshop (mostly kyosho and tamiya) and close enough at the toy's r us... and another thing about the boxes.. yep you maybe right about the yamato boxes being that cheap and ugly but i'm a keeper ;D ;D i have all my empty boxes at a vacant room where all of our unusable stuff were put in.... next trip in hongkong maybe i'll try that nathan road stuff because it is quite near to where i always check in.. just walking distance from the hotel ;D ;D hoping not to get lost
