Raydeen did it for me. I was 5 (1979), and we went to this local toystore. I saw a box of Raydeen (with great picture of the robot firing the God Gogan)model kit, and asked my father to buy it for me. He refused, and bought me a Kyodain checker game (or something like that...) instead. From that day on, the fire within me burns... I vow to get anything super robot...
Fast forward to 1984 - 1985, Voltes, Goshogun, God Sigma, and Jeeg was the craze, and the GoDaikin was out. Being not quite rich, I was only able to get some Machine Robo, with the most expensive toy I ever had was the Takatoku DX Gerwalk Nikick, which I bought after saving my allowance - and which I broke the arm three days after it's purchase.
In 1986, our family moved to the US. I collected Transformers, not the fancy ones, only the less expensive ones now and then. I did manage to obtain some expensive ones after my friend got bored and sold me some of his collection. I managed to obtain Trypticon and a complete set of protectobots, along with some other bots. However, these arel all lost now.
In 1990, we return to our country, and being a teenager now, I lost almost all attraction to toys whatsoever, because of having new interest: Girls and Heavy Metal music! However, the Force Five cartoons are being broadcasted again, and keep a little of my interests alive.
This continues until recently, when in 2004, I finally got a decent job that allows me to start collecting again. I searched the web, find out about SOCs, and decide to purchase the GX-22 Eva Unit-04. The quality and engineering amazes me - but a stupid mistake made me stay away from SOC until the news of Voltes release reached me from my local supplier (I have started to collect SIC BTW), and I immediately made efforts to pre-order it. When the GX-04S was re-issued, I just let loose and ordered it straight without much hesitation....
