If it matters to you though, remember that the video game version of Mazinkaiser predates the anime version.

Get both, if possible :-) However, the MF version is harder (more $) to find right now.

I for myself prefer Max Factory, which is the one I own right now.

I've got the Aoshima and love it, but I'd certainly pounce on a MF version.

Max is a better made gokin I think. Have the Aoshima version. While it looks good for display (big wings, buff mean look), its not as fun to handle, as some joints are not that well designed. Like the wings just attached with a big round long peg, no notches to lock in place, and wings rotates in ways u don't want them to (even a square peg would have prevent it from rotating, but they didn't even bother to think of that when designing the toy). The pull out elbow joints are worse. Paint chip-a-hoy!, as no round smooth shapes in that area like the later Getters. Things are sharp with square edges rubbing each other when posing. And the turbo smasher punch gimmick doesn't really shoots. It drops LOL. Shoots as far as 1 cm, with the shooting punches are way too heavy to do any good. The previous Shin Getter 1 on the other hand, while is an older release, has better toy design. You can feel more love put into it when you just hold the toy. I got a few Aoshimas, and the Mazinkaiser is their weakest release in my collection. Max gokins are pricey, but they are very well made. Had the chance to handle my friend's Max Kaiser, and definitely is better than my Aoshima in terms of design and quality, while the sculpt is more subjective to you personal taste. Hope that helps.

i don't have a max gokin kaiser, but i think i read from some post that the hip ball joints are extra tight. everything else is superb i think.
regarding the aoshima version, it is the best choice if you wud like to confine ur gokins to anime base. i have the aoshima mazinkaiser 'soc black' (shiny black like socs) version with chrome biceps and thighs (the first japanese limited blackwing ver i think), but i swap the black wings into anime red wings which i got from a mazinkaiser ova version (white armor).
the aoshima kaiser is built like a tank. heavy on diecast, and it has a great paintjob. no paint chippings on mine either. the scrander can be position while attached, very handy when posing the gokin. i like the pull out elbow too. pull em a little, position the arms, then slowly push em back. i love it
anyways, if they do reissue the max gokin mazinkaiser. probably i'll get one too. it is the "first appearance" version, like ataru said, it predates the anime/aoshima mazinkaiser.

i personally think the Aoshima kaiser is better then the Max one. i have both and i am trying to sell of my Max Kaiser. i just know like how skinny he looks and the color of his jet pack. i have the first reissue of the Aoshima Kaiser and it displays very well with all my soc. www.toyboxdx.com/rumble_plus/271002-mazinkaiser.html

The Aoshima is a heavy chogokin, while the MF is a (flimsy?) action-figure made for posing. The Aoshima has the feel and presence of a big mazinger-robot, the MF is more like something from the marvel-universe. Feeling the weight of the aoshima is wanting one, if it's chogokin you like. Aoshima never disappoints.

The MF is certainly not a flimsy action figure. It's very sturdy and has more diecast content than pretty much any SOC. Both Mazinkaisers are nice in their own ways.
I've owned both and sold both. I liked the weight of the Aoshima but felt the MF to be better crafted and have a slightly better paint job. In the end I didn't want to own either because they both have a bit of that marvel feel that markusg mentions. Or put another way, to anyone that has seen the movie TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze, they're super shredder to Mazinger Z's or Great Mazinger's normal shredder. There's a sort of childish "ooh, lets just throw in more spikes and stuff and make him buff, then he'll be even cooler!" sort of feel to Mazinkaiser. It's also kind of like that for Neo Zxtole vs. Zxtole, for the guyver fans.

The max factory products have too much of that, but maybe some of aoshima's gokins have a touch of it too. Personally I like the old school stuff much better.
