So I bought this figure because I thought he looked cool and I've never seen him before, but I really know nothing about him so I'm hoping somebody knows his background information? Here's what I've gathered, but may not be correct. His name is Doluga from a series called Raiger. The seller said it was made by Takara in the 80s. I've included pics of the trademark on the box because it seems to me that this trademark is from a different company, but I can't remember. And that's all I really know about him. Whether he's a good guy or bad guy, I don't know. Here's a quick run down of the figure. I was suprised to find that he appears to be a mecha with a door located in the abdomen that opens to an elevator where you can insert the little figure that comes with it. There's a lever on the back of the figure that raises the elevator and extends the neck up at the same time for his transformation into dragon form. His shield connects to his back and opens up into a pair of dragon wings. The shield also carries a dragon "mask" on the front and the mask connects to the humanoid face to complete the dragon transformation. The figure is mostly rigid plastic except his feet which are diecast. He's fairly large, standing 12" in dragon form and 10" in "humanoid" form. Articulation is surprisingly good for the 80's with roughly 16 pts, but all of the joints are single axis. He's all toy without a doubt and built really solid. The box art is fantastic!

Xiombarg, that's a pretty cool toy. I've never seen or heard of it before either.
That's the Japanese Takara symbol. So apparently it is made by Takara.

I came across it doing a random search on Ebay, and the seller was located in Japan. I'm a sucker for dragons. Always have been, so when I saw this figure it was a no brainer. It wasn't very expensive either. The shipping cost me more than the figure, but luckily I was the only bidder. The one thing I really am curious to know about this figure is whether it really is mecha or some type of fusion character thing?

xiombarg,
it's called Yushin Doruga, of the series Yushin Rygar. It's the bad guy. I confirm it's made by takara. The Rygar has a DX battle horse too, kinda elusive though.
The series was originally from the master Go Nagai.
Hope this helps!
BTW Xiombarg, do you know where can I find the command gundam you have pictured?

Thanks dai-x, that info helps a lot. So Rygar must be the good guy. Maybe now I can do some web searches with the correct spellings and fill in the rest of the blanks. I really don't see the Heavy Arms Command Gundams come around very often, but I'm always keeping my eyes open for them and if I come across one I'll let you know.

Regarding the mecha/fusion issue, the Japanese writing in the upper right hand corner says "Bio-Armor". So I guess the dragon is some kind of bio-suit?

it's kinda weird: they are a fusion mecha. The good guy actually becomes part of the rygar, expands inside like the diapoln fusion process in the anime. The Rygar has a "Pissed off" form where he gets red hair and a horned lion shaped face. here's the anime: and here's a loose dx rygar: pissed off version with open chest (for the pilot in the toy)

So I guess the dragon is some kind of bio-suit? I do like that Megatron, but I wish they would have found a way to make the dragonhead arm shorter. The Rygar figures seem like a different type of theme compared to most Go Nagai creations. Dai-x In the instruction book there was a cartoon drawing of Doruga and the Rygar guy together but I assumed they were buddies because of the way it was drawn, so it's good to know that they are enemies for future reference. Manny Thanks. Yeah, fur on figures is pretty funky

You may also want to search on the spelling "Lyger" or "Liger." I think this is the same hero series that inspired the wrestling gimmick for Jushin "Thunder" Liger, one of Japan's most famous pro wrestlers. I think he's actually more famous than the anime at this point.

There are many figures of the wrestler, which differs from the pix DaiX provided. Here's more pix: (regular) (pissed off) (super ?) and a figure (microman scale):

That first one is Jushin (Beast God) Lyger, the second is Fire Lyger, and the last is Thunder Lyger. Jushin "Thunder" Liger's costume is based on Thunder Lyger, which is the giant version, I think...

Have you guys seen the war horse before or seen a picture of it? I'm wondering if it's something worth hunting down maybe?

I should have a pic somewhere, surely won't worth the effort IMHO. The figures at least have some little diecast, the horse is practically useless. Will post pic once I found it.
