mpchi... I love the RJ description you wrote above. Yep, that's why I'm sharing how I feel about my SOC collection with you guys, I know you'd be able to relate. We all definitely walk different paths. My collection obsession is definitely shifting to vinyl records. Funny because I was a teen in the 80s and I was so willing to switch to CDs when I had the chance. I resisted the whole vinyl resurgence for years! But now I'm totally hooked and I'm recollecting all of the New Wave music I used to listen to. Yeah, another form of nostalgia

bocasas... I truly appreciate you letting me know that you were able to relate. Collecting SOCs has just been such a big part of my life that it's weird to let it go. However, when I look at my current, crazy collection (having GX01 to GX100, the rare ones and the SPEC line is a lot!), I just don't get the urge to get more. I think it's my subconscious telling me that I finally have enough. I believe a big part of why I became a SOC completist was because of my childhood. My family couldn't really afford to buy me these robots when I was a kid (I only had one growing up). When I started and up until recently, I wanted to hoard to compensate. Fortunately, I think this therapy is working for me

holdyourfireal... I now have all of the robots from my childhood via the SOC line--except for Balatack. I'm not familiar with the majority of the SOC releases. I mostly bought them to be a completist. I love them all at a point. I just don't see much point of getting more robots I have no personal connection with.

Hi mpchi... Thanks for the response. I'm just not into getting SOCs beyond GX-100. Nor am I interested in trying other lines. I feel like GX-100 is the finish line for me. I've completed it... Like being a completist I am planning on getting all of the rare SOCs that I don't already have (anything before GX-101).

Does anyone else feel like me?... After getting GX-100, I sort of lost interest in continuing to collect the SOC line (I've been a completist, I have GX01 to GX100). I truly wanted the line to end at 100. I don't have room anymore, and it's almost a quarter of a century since I started collecting SOC's--it's kinda getting old, literally Who will inherit my collection (we don't have kids), and should I ever sell my beloved robots? Yeah, these SOC-related existential questions are the quintessential first world problems But you guys are my sounding board. No one around me understands. By the way, finally getting all of the SPEC releases kinda sealed the deal for me. At least I have closure with that line. I now feel like it's pointless to be an SOC completist because there may never be an end to that line. Thanks for listening and please let me know if I'm missing any SPEC releases. I listed what I have above.

I don't mind having something Godzilla-related. Especially the robot kind

RoboFestivus I see GX-100 as a giant version of GX-05, plus extra parts to buy

My GX-100X is on its way. Hurrah! But I still can't believe I've spent over $1,000 on a single SOC! As I mentioned on my previous posts, I wish I was able to retire from collecting SOC's after getting a GX-100. I've reached a milestone! This whole insane spending experience should have knocked some sense into me

bocasas... My dad did buy me one when I was a kid. It was the most affordable die-cast in the store. And so it was of no surprise that I had no clue who it was. Regardless, I was in love with that robot. I played with it non-stop and I carried it with me everywhere! I was going to bring it with me when we immigrated to the U.S. but my parents made me give it to a relative. I did wear a Grendizer shirt on the plane, though

darkfriar... Thanks for letting me know that you are able to relate. I'm so glad to know that I'm not alone in the "struggle." We are so fortunate to have "a literal hoard of really awesome toys."

My other question... Am I overcompensating? When I was a kid in the 70s, my family couldn't afford to buy me these beloved robots of mine. Is this part of the reason why I'm borderline hoarding them? Only a small portion of the SOC releases are from shows I used to watch (Mazinger Z, Voltes V, Daimos, Gaiking, Grendizer and Getter Robo). It's important for me to recognize this. Overcompensating and being a completist is a dangerous mix My dream is to have a space where I can display my whole collection. In the mean time, I will continue to ponder how I should move forward with my collection.

I know I've shared something similar before, so please bear with me. Thanks for letting me vent. No one around me can relate to what I'm going to express... Again. When I talk about this to non-members of this board, they think this issue of mine is the most FIRST WORLD problem ever! I truly appreciate you guys listening and possibly responding.
As I mentioned before, I was super excited when I heard rumors about the Soul of Chogokin line possibly ending when the GX-100 was announced. I was really hoping for this because:
- I wanted a sense of completion/closure. I've been collecting the line for over 20 years. I didn't want to continue anymore! In a nutshell, I had enough! I wanted to say, "Hurrah! I reached my goal... GX-01 to GX-100!"
- I don't have enough room (I only have two Ikea Detolf cabinets). Our extra bedroom is half SOC boxes. When we have guests over, they are terrified of boxes possibly toppling over them while sleeping (I'm not exaggerating, that room looks the last scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark).
- What am I going to do with my SOC collection in the future? I plan to let them go when I'm 80 or something. Would I sell them? If so, are their prices going to appreciate or depreciate decades from now? We don't have kids, so who would I pass them onto if I don't sell my collection? And would the possible inheritor(s) appreciate my robots (This is my nightmare... my collection going to folks who will not love the robots).
But who am I kidding? I will hate my birthdays and Christmas if I don't get SOCs as gifts. They're what I've been looking forward to as gifts during these special occasions for over two decades! Alright, I would have survived for years even if the line stopped at GX-100 because I only have the regular/color versions of the SOC line. I was planning on asking for black versions, recolors, renewal versions, accessories, limited items, special items and the rest of the SPEC line (they started out as SOCs) if the line ended.
Despite wishing the end of the line, I can not imagine life without SOC's! Aside from the robots being super fun to collect and to play with, they take all my stresses away (I forget about work, problems, etc...). As soon as I step into our extra room with my collection, I become a little kid again! What more can I ask for? Okay, for the line to end!
Thanks for listening. Let me know your thoughts...
P.S. I already know that I'm getting GX-101 for Christmas. Oh, no...

RoboFestivus... That's me. I don't want to open my GX-100 unless I have to (installed battery issue).

Yeah, too bad the batteries for this release are already installed. With that in mind, how long does it take before the batteries begin to corrode?

Gold... Thanks for the review. I also like what you wrote:
"While I’m personally excited to see what the line brings next (more Gaogaigar!!), hopefully it won’t take another 25 years for Bandai to truly wrap up the line."
I wanted the SOC line to end at 100. I don't have room and I wanted closure.
It wasn't like I was going to stop at 100 (I have all the regular releases, except for 98 and 99--still waiting for them to arrive). I was planning on getting all the variants... 168+ releases (like you mentioned).

Salamat, Gold. The "Fierce Battle" mode title make it seem like there is a significant difference between the two releases. Regardless, I'm still happy I have both versions.
