My nephews love robots and I would like to get them into super robots (they love mine). So, for 4-7 year olds, what is a good buy for kids play in terms of Mazinger, Grendizer, and Getter? Also, any good mecha buys for kids to play with?

The preorder price on this 10" beast is great and it has articulation. My concern is about quality. I read some reviews of McFarlane toys and they said quality was an issue, as in parts falling off, like limbs. Any experiences with McFarlane? Thoughts on this piece? Review is up. Thanks for the great review, coldiron. I had written this piece off due the concerns I read but I will reconsider now.

Their new line has been on display at target and other stores. They did the pilot named Jack from TF2. It looks decent through the box, it may be worth looking at to see the projection of the quality. If anyone does pick one up, I would love to hear a review. I'm holding back until then.

Thanks so much! This is a great list to start with. I loved Robotech back in the day- saw all the episodes and used to role play it. I had no idea it was on Netflix. Robotech is definitely on Netflix. The only downside is it looks awful. Sadly because of the never ending legal disputes between Harmony Gold and the Japanese Studios while HG owns Robotech in North America, for some reason they are not allowed to remaster it up to high def. So it's 480p 3:4 aspect ratio. And the title text is fuzzy. I cry when I see how good the updated and remastered Macross looks. That sucks. I wonder if Netflix is aware of this. I'm not sure I can pain myself to watch such a good series in bad quality. I'm still catching up on the Clone Wars for now

Good to know. Is there anything to be done about it? Or basically it's there for posing and nothing more.

I got my SRC anime Grendizer with spazer (thanks coldbreaker!) and it was definitely the right one to get. The pearl white is awesome and makes a stark contrast to the silver of the Mazingers. I also received the GX-45 Maz and it's also a beauty. However, the jet scrander and belt fall off easily. It clicks on but if you move Maz it falls off. The belt unlocks easily and the insert in the back doesn't help either. Is this normal for the GX-45?

I just received my purchase from coldbreaker, the anime Grendizer with spazer. Grendy is fanastic! Item as described and coldbreaker is easy and nice to work with. I would definitely purchase from him again. He's still got stuff for sale so check it out!

Hard to understand since they made a big deal out of this D.C. line as a new generation of the standard SOC figures. Yet turned out lacking in many ways, aside the nice slender look. How do you think they compare to GX-06?

Ok, so it sounds like most SOC, SRC do not have rubber. Maz, grendy, etc. So with these, just keep out of direct sunlight and display well and they should last a long time without issue, correct?

I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on the fewture final battle Getter, but I'm concerned about durability. A pinned post here recommends preventive maintenance, some of which seems extreme. If I buy this and do nothing "preventative" will it last as a display piece? Or do I need to worry about rubber and plastic part issues years down the road?
Also, do SOC and SRC hold up? How do they compare for durability with fewture?

A lot of it is also there has not been a ton of new stuff to draw in new fans. As everything became more and more risk averse and branded, the bulk of what the newer generations see is just yet another iteration of Gundam and the occasional Macross show. And ever more simplified Transformers shows. There is less original stuff. And what there is is less family friendly, tending to follow more in Evangelions footsteps than Mazingers. I mean just think about Gurren Lagan as an example. Great robot show. But targeted age range is at a minimum 13+. You don't get a lot of kids craving toys from a young age with it. It and its follow up series Kill la Kill lead to "other" cravings, if you will. Not the type you fulfill at ToysRUs (one hopes...) The Voltron reboot is interesting in a number of ways. It's redoing a classic property, and maintaining a fairly classic feel. While both keeping the material accessible for a broad age range, yet intelligent, compelling and well written. And it's going to the media and marketspace where the kids are actually watching these days. So it's grabbing young eyeballs. And toys are suddenly flying off the shelves. It would be interesting to see somebody take a similar approach with a Go Naggai property, would it not? Really solid points made there. I agree. Young fans make for older fans. Can you recommend some good robot shows to watch? I tried to watch a newer Mazinger and it was unwatchable to me - the plot made no sense, new characters appear from nowhere, and plot lines disappear and randomly reappear. I like anime like Full Metal Alchemist, Dragonball Z Kai, Akira, Avatar The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra and movies like Pacific Rim. Any good suggestions for me? Could be any robot/mech related series. Perhaps Gurren Lagan is a place to start. I have Netflix as well.

I actually bought PDFs of their previous comics, Metal Made Flesh, which was great - had a gritty cyberpunk feel - like 2000AD for Heavy Metal mag.
Now they just need a super robot stretch goal!

This is a cover of the Gigantor (T28) theme song from the 60s american dub by the legendary punk band, The Dikkies (won't let me spell it proper way). Recorded in 1979, the song helped launch them onto a major label. It's pop-punk, so even if you're not a punk fan, you'll be ready for a super robot war after listening to this. In fact, I'm going to see them next week! Getting my rocket punch ready right now!!!

For gloves, I assume the microfiber ones are the way to go for handling chogokin.
As for the other stuff - what is absolutely necessary for long term maintenance? I would rather not have to dump them into a vat of chemicals to preserve them. And the rubber issue? Please explain this. I'm getting SOC, SRC, and fewture. If I do nothing does this mean they will be detiorating in time?
