Saw this movie a few weeks back and want to do a mini review on it to share with you all.
The movie is its own independent storyline that is based on an alternate timeline from the TV show. Like most rider flicks, you need not watch the TV show to enjoy the movie, albeit prior knowledge of the shows will enhance you viewing experience, however it may lead to some spoilers, depending on how far you have gotten watching the TV show.
As like the TV show the movie involves our Hero, Tendou Soji, the man destined to enlightenment. It has most of the main characters from the TV show, but they are all a bit different from what we are used to. Much like Paradise Lost and Ryuuki the movie, where the characters personalities are somewhat more exaggerated one way or another. Since this is a movie, the build up of the characters are not as deep as the TV show. Sub-plots are virtually none existent.
We are introduced to a few new characters with a surprise rider at the end. Like many of the Rider movies, there are sacrifices in "honorable" ways.
I recommend renting, buying, this movie. This site has it for $9.99

I did not buy it from these guys, so I can not comment on the quality of the subtitling, it always irritates me to get the HK version of Rider shows/movies where they use the Chinese names of the characters instead of the Japanese. The copy I got I bought from eBay and the subbing was phenomenal, however eBay suspended this user. I'd say buy it from a reputable place. Discount Anime DVD is ok, I've purchased a few things from these guys in the past and I've gotten badly subbed and well subbed. You may want to email the sellers and make sure the subbing has not been ran through some babel-fish type translator. ;D
