There was a show in the 70's called Message from Space. It had ships that look like 19th century ships albeit in space, ala Captain Harlock's arcadia. There were two guys with retracting Sai's (Cobras?) and they fought evil with it. Other than it was imported in the Philippines as Space War, I know nothing more. Does someone here know about the show? If so, please share. Were there toys?

I'm sure Popy released some ships from this, they caught my attention because of my love for X-Bomber/Star Fleet, similar style. I think it may have been shown in France as a lot of what I've seen was on French ebay.
I'll see what I can find out.

LOL Nothing too exciting, just a hellava lot of ships! X-Bomber was a puppet show (think Thunderbirds etc) but made in Japan and with a Toku giant robot - Dai-X! It's late here so I have to get off, but I'll post more tomorrow. I love this show!

Sketcher, thank for the link. Have to admit this looks pretty interesting. Popy did release a few ships in the Popinika series, check out PB-56 to 58 and PB-70 & PB-71 www.toyboxdx.com/popy/popy_data/pb.htmMagnemo has some detailed pics of the PB-57 Galaxy Runner in his sale thread (in the for sale section, oddly enough), and a model kit. There's a little more info on the show here www.jeffbots.com/quonto-zero.html including some comparison shots with Star Fleet (X-Bomber) ;D

X-Bomber / Star Fleet info: I'll get the OT stuff out the way first. An English dubbed version of X-Bomber called Star Fleet was broadcast in the UK in 1982, I was ten and this was my first exposure to the world of giant robots. Without it I doubt I'd be on this forum today. It's also why when everyone is clammering for a Damios/Raideen/etc SOC I want an obscure mecha named Dai-X. So you could say I'm a fan Anyway enough of that. X-Bomber was a puppet Tokusatsu show created by Go Nagai. The principle cast were all marionettes, while the giant robot was a guy in a suit, in true Senati style. Loads of info here: www.sfxb.co.uk/aboutshow/starfleet.htmlWikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_Bomberand a RJ review of the Takatoku Dai-X here: www.robot-japan.com/Gallery/Takatoku/BigDaiXDX/big_dai_x.aspEnjoy ;D

The Dai-X is one of my favorite bots of all!! I would kill to get the large one. I've got beat up versions of the ST and DX, and I also have the Jumbo Machinder ( <---- look left!). I would love to see the show, but maybe its best if I didn't. It might ruin it for me - I never could stand any of those Thunderbird movies. I always found them soooooo damn boring.
I have Message From Space on DVD, and it is damn near unwatchable!! I haven't seen the series, but the movie is trash. I have a couple of the Popynica ships, and they are pretty nice. The Liabe was released under the Shogun Warriors line (I actually have a loose beat up one if anyone is interested - sorry if I always seem to be pimping, but I've got boxes of stuff to unload!). The Liabe was also released as a Large Scale vehicle. I have photos of it if anyone is interested.

The deluxe combination Dai-X is my grail, but I've got a nice ST to ease the pain for now. I've always admired your jumbo, I don't think I've even seen one up for sale.
The show was (IMO) much better than Thunderbirds or other Gerry Anderson stuff, the only real similarity was the puppets. Of course I've not seen it since I was a kid so I may memories may be a little rose-tinted .
