<LMAOF> haaaaaaaaaHAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!! ...PSYCHE! Judging by the title of this thread, you'd think an arguement had just broken out here, or that I was b*tchin up a storm, eh! <giggle> Well, naaaaaaah. This thread is about how I intend to build my own damn jumbo <LOL>... I'm Serious! If I weren't so LAZY, I'da made a Jumbo by Now, too! Well, I started a project but I'm distracted at the moment with projects outside of Robot toys-related. So, Here's a coupla pics to get this thread started. They explain my goals in basic summary... ...but when I get back into the project portrayed, I'll post more detailed pics of my Getter1 figure (which won't turn out as BIG as a jumbo, but close enough). ...just make sure y'all empty out and clean up them mustard bottles, ok! Enjoy... *^__^*zozo-Magengar

Now, Before I continue with this thread, I think it's best that I do more research on this topic. If I wanna make my own damn jumbo <LOL>, I'd First wanna learn how the Pros make their own damn jumbos! <LOL> So, I start with a web-tour... outside of RJ (I LOVE how you folks are makin your own damn jumbos! *^__^*) I'd like to venture into other places where other damn jumbos are hapennin'... check this out: www.sixsite.com/jumboland/harrisgarada.html...pretty neat, huh! zozo-Magengar

Bondo? BONDO? ... hmmm, isn't that the glue that is used for gluing car parts together? (I Do mean Actual CARS, bumpers and hoods, etc...) Does it bond well to sheet-styrene and foamboard? I can only imagine how powerful Bondo can be; I'll try, but I hope I don't splash any on my skin. Still, it's a very clever idea- after all, the strongestglue works best for a good long-lasting final product. (sidenote: can Bondo take a beating? I wanna glue half-dollar coins to the beater-side head of my kickdrum to get the Vinnie Paul "Pantera" deep-high-end kick sound) Thanks for sharing! zozo-Magengar I used bondo and sheet styrene for mine. really need to take new pics since i downsized the neck/ear spikes too

bondo sticks well to some things, not to others. As long as you're careful with the sanding it works pretty well though. For my getter jumbo, i used it to mount the belly cannon, smooth out the chest, and to sculpt the entire cape and head (minus the big red ear spikes).
And yea, it's the car stuff. You mix the 2 compounds together and get a thick putty...you've only got a few minutes to work with it, so go quick! Once it's on, let it dry for a half hour or so, then get to sanding. It can sand down very fine and very smooth.
It's not a glue though...more of a quick-hardening clay

Yes, I've heard it does dry fast. It wouldn't do me much good if I try to sculpt shapes with it, in which case the Tamiya putty would be good for sculpting, and the bondo for..... bonding. <LOL> I've been wondering about the Getter1's "bat" ears, since I never could get a good look at them-- if they are solid all around, or flapped over the earspikes like an airplane wing flap... ...I cut pieces of triangular shaped posterboard, folded them in half, and embedded them into my Getterhead (which is made of "Great Stuff" sprayfoam, sculpted to form a head shape, then layered in red Plasti-Dip for the Getter red head color, and to give the head more rigidity)... I sprayed red Plasti-Dip, in coats, onto the "bat ears" to "graft" them firmly to the head. ...I will place the earspikes beneath the "bat ears". The earspikes will be made from plastic dart tips. I'll post some pics of the head later when I get back home (I'm at the public library now). zozo-Magengar bondo sticks well to some things, not to others. Bondo is not glue. It is a polyester autobody filler. It won't hurt you if you get it on your skin.. It is very durable and can take a minor beating. It will work well for forming over styrene and foam, but not as a glue. You can use it to form over your foam "bucks" before painting and will have excellant results.

Wow, cool! I was very afraid that if it got on my skin, it would bond permanently. I feel much safer now, Thanks! *^__^* Also nice to learn that I can use it over styrene and foam, too. If this is the case, will the bondo Harden? <Yes, I Hope> And, is it Sculptable? <Yes, I Hope> If I press it into a mold, will it retain shape? <Very Yes, I Hope> Thanks! zozo-Magengar Bondo is not glue. oh yeah, you can get your hands into that stuff no problem. But it gets a little warm once it starts to activate. The working time depends on how much hardener. I use this all the time to build prototype toys. Among all the other things I use. lol

Can the bondo also be used to make a mold? (for making plaster, And resin, parts and models) ...if so, would hold up to resin if I use a release-agent?

No. It will crack if you start to flex it. It is too thick as well to use it for details. My suggestion is to use a silicon mold-making rubber first, then cover that for rigidity with plaster and gauze. That way it will keep it's shape. Assuming you are using it for large pieces like a Jumbo.

That's good to know; thanks! I plan to cast large jumbo parts (limbs and bodies)... Jumbo heads, such as Mazingers, might be a little more difficult unless I cast halves split right down the face/nose. For now, I don't have large enough space in my home to start any jumbo casting projects. I do plan to cast smaller figure parts (solid), such as those from my Medicom and LeReve Mazinger parts. In which case, just the usual resin-cast method will do. This will also get me started learning more about how to cast resins. (I temp-worked for a brief while last summer at a mannequin factory in Bennington VT; I was casting white solid resin mannequin hands- preparing the A/B part mixtures and pouring into the molds. That's how I started learning to cast. The leftover mixtures would harden into round discs in the bottom of a small 3gal. bucket; these discs coulda made fine display stands.) zozo-Magengar No. It will crack if you start to flex it. Never fear... I'm a first-timer, too! The first time/first custom project is always the Best, because the learning experience just keeps growing from there. You first custom is the one you want to keep for Life, because it symbolizes New Self-Discovery. *^__^* zozo-Magengar ok, I was never into Jumbo toys before but after what I saw and read the comments from our other members here on RJ...I think I will start my new hobby and project...I will try to build me one...I never knew they were so simple...but after the few tips that I've found here and there...I think I would do alright for a first timer...maybe!!!!

I coulda started a new thread with this subject, but it still involves making your own damn jumbo <LOL> I title this sub-topic: " The Aphrodai that Wasn't" ...Today, I came across something that Coulda been, Shoulda been, and Woulda been, a fine Aphrodai figure... ...It happened when I stepped outside for lunchbreak, on my way to the Family Dollar Store to get some snacks. I walked through the neighborhhod side-streets, and along the way, I browsed through folks' trash (mind you, where I work- it's a middle-to-upperclass neighborhood where folks toss out real good sh*t! And Mondays are their Trash days.)... ...by the curb, next to a garage, I spotted her... a 6' tall mannequin, voluptuous, curvy, Naked- lyin there on the cold snow-topped sidewalk next to a trash can. I wanted her. I Wanted HER! I Wanted HER. As I stepped closer, I noticed she was broken off at her right leg. Other than That, she appeared Salvageable. She was also headless... but the way her shiny fiberglass azz was staring up at me beckoned me to take Her home... ...Dumbazz ME: I blew her off. "Eh, I'll wait to grab her when I get off work later this evening." What a FOOL I was. I spent all afternoon thinkin about Her, and how I was gonna try to restore her smooth body as... ...APHRODAI ! (Can everyone say, "Aphrodai" ?) ...Five o'clock struck, and I punched off the clock quicker than a premature jizzoff. I ran back down that side-street, like a Hero, ready to rescue Her. I imagined stepping on the bus, with HER naked cold smooth headless body in my arms, and telling the other passengers "Do NOT Laugh!"... ...that dream bubble suddenly busted flat-cold... ...She... was Gone! GONE, I tell ya. Gone as mysteriously as She appeared! Gone. To this very moment, I sit here typing This, and I lie to myself... She Was NEVER There. zozo-Magengar
