I saw it on the BBTS pre-order board the other day. Read the review again. Couldn't resist. Birthday two months away. Close enough. Went for it. And this time I won't be hooking up LED's. I can't wait. JWM

I remember the cut-up edited Voltron from the 80's. I like 80's anime ONLY when it is not edited and poorly dubbed .

Heres the add (copy and paste): www.hlj.com/cgi-perl/hljlist.cgi?Series=Soul+of+Chogokin&Dis=2(If it is in BOLD, it still available) It is at MSRP and with EMS it still comes out to less than $210... But if you think BBTS is more reliable by all means go for it...

I've always had the devil's own time with the HLJ's search feature. I looked for the Dan there and just coulddn't find it. Anyway, BBTS sponsors the site, and they have been good to deal with so far. JWM

I'm sitting here looking up at the Aggressive Humaroids. Spent the better part of the day, yesterday, putting the GX13 through its transformations. To tell the truth, I'm not overly impressed. The knees were ok on mine, but the figure was back-heavy, and tippy with the booster wings on. Yeah, the little head module was clever, but having to remove those arm pins, and plug them in to the extra piece for the "neck" fitting is just sloppy engineering. Rememer- this is the same company that engineered VoltesV, and the Perfect Grade Zeta Gundam. They can do better. And I'll add one more gripe- the "transformation" on this is really just adding a hat and shoes to the "Humaroid Moth". Even Daltanias had a more balanced group of combining modules. On the plus side, it's an impressive enough shelf piece when it's all together, and separately the individual pieces make a clever display, but if I had it to do over again, I'd have spent my money on something else. Bro, Dancougar was aired in PI sometime mid-90's. IIRC, it was aired over Channel 13, but it was shortlived. It was only aired for a week (6 days) and never saw light again. That's why it's virtually "unknown" here in PI. As for the other Super Robots, I live in Angeles City, and FEN (Far East Network), a TV Station based in Clark Air Base aired Mazinger Z dubbed in English (Tranzor Z). They also aired the other Nagai bots like UFO Grendizer, Danguard Ace, Gaiking, Gettter Robo (Getta Robot), and Getter Robo G (Starvengers). All of them dubbed in English. Unfortunately though, they fell 5-10 episodes of ending the series.

JWM ;D I'd have to agree with you on that "hat and shoes" thing about the Dan. It's nice and big yes, but it's no thing close to a GX-03, not even the old Voltron DX toy. I would much rather spend on a GX-03 than get a Dan. By the by, Bandai's re-issuing the GX-03 around December. Im hoping I have enough money to get it, and I hope it's going to be a little cheaper. Too bad it's not a GX-03"R" though. IT's the same thing. No chrome, no added improvements. ... but it's better than a Dan anyday!

I agree that Dan's Gattai is kinda lame but I admire the toy because it is the best representation of the best aspects of two popular shows from the 80s; Voltron and Transformers. I watched the Dan eps back in the early 90's and I didn't even realize then that its gattai was as simple as a "hat and shoes" transformation. The appeal for me is you get a transformer for each vehicle; 3 of the 4 can transform from vehicle mode to Bestial and then hemorrhoids err humaroid form and when all of them combine, the final bot just looks awesome and mostly resembles the bot in the anime unlike that freak of a toy from the 80's. He's a perfect complement for Voltron (go-lion) and Combattler V (I'm waiting for Voltes V and I'll be done with my childhood gattai fetish) as well as my TFs, but out of all of them, I think Dan gets the most gawks from my friends because of the engineering that went into him and also because he is virtually unknown and they want to know what this toy can do.

The engineering is superb, and yes it is the best representation of the anime, can't argue with that. But yes, the gattai is lame. If I do have a chance (and enough money LOL) to get it, I might, but not after all my other priorities.....and yes, a SOC VOltes V would be sweet!!!

Yups, GET IT NOW while you still can (and HLJ still has it at MSRP) even if you have no personal attachment to Dancougar because of never having seen the anime. Most folks who have never heard of Dan or never saw the anime still get it because of the hype but for me personally, I bought the Dan because I saw the VHS tapes of the series from the 90's, and this is the only transforming toy that does the anime any justice.
GET IT because like the GX-04 Grendizer, this toy will be hard to get in the future. I still don't have Grendy and I'm not willing to pay over $220 usd + shipping for a toy that originally started out in the $80-90 range + 40 for the diecast accesories, and now I'm hoping the GX-04 gets reissued. Alas there's some hope for Grendy because signs point to a reissue (GX-01 to 03 have been reissued in that sequence so maybe GX-04 is next)...but GX-13 Dan is a very long way down the line.

I've had a few days to mess around with the GX13 now, and my opinion has changed, somewhat. While I'm still hugely unimpressed with the neck/head gizmo, I'll have to say that it's really the only flaw in an otherwise very cool piece. Everything else works well and looks good. I'm glad I got it. It looks great on the shelf. JWM
