I finally managed to pick up one of the items on my top 10 want list!! Its a Gardian-style Mazinger Z. I thought Magengar, a Maz fanatic, would love this. I know that this has been reviewed in the past, but I have never seen comparison pix, so hopefully this will be of interest to some. With this new guy, I now have 3 Gardian-style guys, counting Gardian itself and my Baikanfu KO. Here are all three. All have the same number 3 on the back, and all have two pegs on the back, so I can attached the wings to all. All also have the grill in the front, so the chest part can also be attached to all. Here's how the other 2 look Maz'ed up: Here are a couple shots of the smaller bots. Unfortunately, the Maz did not come with any, although I guess it would not make sense if it did. The quality on the 2 boots aren't too bad, although the Gardian has nice stickers inside each part. The Baikanfu only has one in the smallest bot, but the number has been changed to 2 (which makes no sense!!). I also swapped the little guys to create nice color schemes - red with red and blue with blue. Unfortunately, you cannot put any of the smaller guys into the Maz, because the opening in his head is too small!! Here's a comparison shot: But even so, he looks kinda cool as a mecha / armour type thing if he did not have the head. Kinda a bad-ass bot in black. Anyway, Maz Z is one of my favorites, and was on my all-time want list since I started collecting. Now I just have to pick up the Great Maz!! Some final parting shots: BTW, sorry my camera and photography skills are lacking.

Dude, I've never been much of a Guardian fan... ...but that Guardian Mazinger looks friggin Awesome! And I like how ya have him posed with the sword, too! Even as a "Guardian", Maz STILL looks majestic as ever. I say, the folks who knocked him off to render him in this form did a swell job of maintaining his cosmetic allure and color scheme intact; even the wings and the chestplate are, by far, Better-lookin than most other Mazinger KOs I've seen around da net; and here his face wasn't even fuglified! ;D Aw heck, I'll rate him a 10... he looks Cool, and you sure as hell waited a long time to finally acquire and enjoy him! Ya don't need my approval; just Rock On with him, bro! Thanks for sharin and showin! ;D zozo-Magengar

I've seen the Great Maz before, and I can post pix when I get time. But I never heard of a female character. What did it look like?

Im guessing it had the head of venus A on the same exact bootleg body painted in some sort of pastel brown. It looked really freaky!

Nice find KingboyD....that Mazinga looks good. I picked up a Gardian in a job lot about 6-7 years ago.....I liked the idea of the multi-bots in one but those arm joints were really fiddly and look sooo breakable so I moved it on again pretty quickly....but hey, we all do silly things at some time in our lives. Thanks again for the images and the comparison to the other 2....I'll have to keep an eye out for one of these....

Personally I've always liked Gardian. But those other two are even cooler.

Thanks, guys.
Demizer, the Baikanfu I have is a Taiwan bootleg. I was lucky enough to buy it from a fellow member. The real one was released under the Machine Robo line. That's the extent of my knowledge - I'm sure others here know more about it than me.

Thanks again for the images and the comparison to the other 2....I'll have to keep an eye out for one of these.... good luck, bomberx, i've only seen 1-2 of these Gardi-Mazingers on Ebay or Y!J in last 2-3 years, all priced pretty high for what it is! as for Gardian's joints & frailty - everybody probably knows this already, for the benefit of our newer readers - but there's the knee joints (the blue plastic cracks easily in shipping, and many in the 80s were shipped broken) and the head joint (the plastic used is now a little brittle and it breaks VERY easily in shipping, so make sure your seller will take extra care when buying MIB). I've never had a shoulder break on me, but you can look around ebay real quick and see a bunch of ones that did. i think the key is that they look fragile so nobody "works out the kinks" loosening it up, because they're afraid it'll break. few people mention two other little details about buying a gardian that are very common and disappointing when you finally get one MIB: the leg doors on all the robots tend to get worn out, and with a played with example, the plastic gets thin and breaks easily. this is tough to judge from pictures when buying online. Also, the driver and panther figures (commonly missing) can get "box rash" from the old Styrofoam, and get melted or stuck in the box, or have pieces of styro fused into them. Combattler fans know this pain too, as sometimes the treads get "box rash" and turn to goo! (happened to 2 of mine!!) i ask sellers of Godaikins now to take accessories out of the styro and put them in plastic bags, then stick em back in or in a seperate box, especially when coming from hot/warm places like California/ Spain/ Arizona/ Italy/ Etc. remember that when you ask an ebayer seller for special packaging / shipping you better be prepared to pay a little extra. It took me literally 4 MIB Gardians to get one good one in box with most of the parts. my box isn't the best, but i'm happy, as the toys are ULTRA minty. KO, Godakin, Popy, whatever, Gardian is a fun, inpressive, inexpensive winner. can you tell this is my fav godakin? ;D

I just dug mine out. Mine is the Great Mazinga version and is pretty much identical to yours in new condition. It is in the box with the sword, paperwork, some missles, and the Jet Scrander. The box has the Mazinga-Z version on it and says Trans-Jets Giant. What is the value of this one. I am considering letting it go for sale or trade.

Truthfully, not that much. I just bought mine for $25 plus shipping, and it was listed well (under Popy)! I can provide the link if you are interested. I've seen past ones go for a little more and a little less. If you really are interested in selling, please let me know - I would LOVE to get the Great Maz too!! PS - I'm not trying to lowball/scam you - please check value with other members, too.

I scored this one in a bulk action-figure parts lot which I won from an ebay auction almost two months ago... ...It's the yellow Guardian #1 (he has a "1" on his back). As you can see here, his forearms were broken off perhaps from somebody playin with him too much; but this is how I received him in the lot amongst other miscellaneous figures. In this condition, I can't repair him, because his forearm joints are permanent rivets. If I try to drill out the rivets to install custom arms, I might break his biceps and shoulders. The leg and chest hatches work fine, I dunno why- he's the smallest of the three, I can't see any other smaller robots tryin to fit up inside him; and the head tilts back like he's got a friggin "stoma" or something, I dunno. ;D I don't dig him all that much, he just stands there on my shelf lookin all discumbobulated and such. I'll probably get tired of him and let him go, someday. zozo-Magengar
