Well, it does seem to be on the high side, but it also appears to be a very nice example. And Combattras in this condition don't come up all that often - I'd say less than a similar Voltes anyway.
At that price, there's not much of a quick profit in it, but if the buyer actually wants it and can afford it, then any price is right.
And of course, in a few years, we'll look back on $2000 MIB Combattras and remember how cheap they were. It wasn't that long ago when a T28 was expensive at $600.

The most I would pay for a brown box Combattra would be $500 tops and we're talking MIB. Blue box is another story and the Popy Combine Box can go from $1500-$2000 or more if you can find one. Whoever paid $2K for that Combattra is out of his mind.

Yeah, the Popy Combattlerinbox is much much more rare. I'd argue that it will go more than Mikey's estimate.....

Don't forget also, about that one vintage tin robot, Mr. Atomic. He is commanding quite a sum today. Maybe these Bandai types are starting to be the new "most sought after" collector items.

Dang I remember Toys "R" Us used to have these at discount for like $30 way back in the 80's and I always passed on them cuz I always thought the combined mode was a little off.

Let's not forget one thing. The US dollar is weak right now and there are a lot of international collectors out there that is taking advantage of this weak dollar. They are the ones that are winning out also. Now is the time to sell items like this. What you may think is a high dollar amount for a Combattra, is realistically very cheap for an international buyer because of the currency exchange. Most of my buyers on ebay are in fact, international buyers.

That piece averages from $500-$700
So that's about a $1625 - $1425 price difference the US dollar is not that cheap.
I think the buyer just has too much money to care about price.
Every so often ae ebay seller gets lucky I guess.

you guys are right, $2000 maybe too much for a brown box Combattra. Mine sold on ebay for only 1,125, way below the $2000 which attracted me to sell it anyway. Still I'm not complaining, I made a bit from it and I can use the money to buy a MINT Japanese Voltes V in Volt in Box from a local collector!

what's the difference between a brown box and a magenta box (http://robotjapan.com/Gallery/BandaiAmerica/Godaikin/Combattra/Combattins.JPG)? Is Brown box the very first edition?

Wow, almost $7000? Is that realistic? I looked at the photos and I can say that the robot parts are identical to the Brown box Combattra's. I got my Japanese Volt In Box today for only $2400 (the one with the pen and the 5 small coloured monster figures) and Im happy as hell! By the way guys, anybody can tell me what year was this released because I can't see any year printed anywhere in the box.

I think Popy Combattler is 1976 and Popy Voltes is 1977. The Godaikin blue is 1982/1983 but the brown box is from the later year, if I am not mistaken 1984.

I wonder if Combattra has raised in value compared to Volt over the last few months for 2 major reasons -
1. There's no shortage of Voltes Vs around, and when supply outstrips demand, we all know what happens, and
2. Maybe everyone who wanted a V V - fueled by the hysteria over the SOC version - has now pretty much got one, so the next target is maybe Combattra. That'll lead to a higher demand & price...

Well, I've seen so many Godaikin Voltes and even Popy Voltes (though red joints not yellow joints) on ebay and even yj last year. Some of them are even still there after so many months.
On the other hand, Combattra brown or blue rarely showed up (only saw one Popy Combattler V last year with very high price and probably two combattra blue box).
So yeah, it seems like Voltes V vintages was pouring down to ebay and the supply exceed the demand. (This year probably a good year for someone who wants to sell a combattra dx ;D)

And a good year to pick up a 'cheap' Volt.
