Or Glen Daizer as it says on the box. It's made by popy and saw it up for sale (and pretty pricey) and was wondering what version this is, as I have not seen it before (looks sizeable - but not quite jumbo though ;D). Thanks.

That's a very interesting specimen right there. If it is indeed a knockoff, it sure looks as damn good as an original Grendizer figure of that size/category. You made a good score there, Hold on to it! zozo-Magengar

Oh, I havent bought it (little out of my price range). It just listed at auction on YHJ (111k yen) and the seller says its a rare piece, but needs the money for a car. There is already a bid on it, so I figure it must be pretty rare, and was wondering if anyone had info on it. I checked on Grendizer.co.uk, but no luck Here is another shot of it. It doesn't look to be diecast.

It looks to be made of some kind of hard plastic material (resin is too fragile, so this might be ABS or PVC, I dunno)... ...usually the type of plastic used for making these particular KOs in the country of its origin. The design certainly looks like Grendy, and its asymetories (color schemes and layout) look really good. This may have been made some time around the late '70s to mid '80s... my guess. Calling all vets, help with info here please! Thanx!!! zozo-Magengar

Well, if its a KO, I'm quite impressed. Heres the final shot, if it helps. Looks like a Jumbo Grendi/Spazer on the box, and note the popy stamps on the two sides. Very interesting. Oh, and heres the auction link if anyones interested page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b90984149

It is legit. It is one of the Pla DX style robot sets from Popy.
Note, though, it has sun fading and yellowing. That obscures the old packaging look.
Very very rare toy....
There was a similar PlaDX for many of the super robos by Popy.

Ahh, so this is what the TBDX datafiles mean when it says "Popy also created the "Pla-Deluxe" series of all-plastic robot toys." Never got what that meant 'till now. Strange they would box it as Glen Dizer though. Thanks for the education Ed!

I have seen the Mazinger version from that toy line, first time i see the grendizer.
I also remember some bootlegs made in china around 3 years ago that had the same mold but the figures were painted with crazy colors and they had no box (maybe the store owner removed the box to save space), you could find them at the chinese stores here very cheap.
If i find the Mazinger pic i will let you know.

Thanks shopperx, I would love to get pics of this line (as I have also started a pic collection on the "Big Scale" bases). I figure if I cant own 'em, might as well have photos to stare at.
Cheers

This is the (original?) Mazinger i was referring to: But now im not sure its from the same line since the box is different, the arms look very similar to me but the firing buttons are on a different place. As for the chinese bootlegs i will try to get some pics from a friend this weekend.

All of the figures, Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger and Grendizer share the same body shape with minor differences. They all have shooting fists and are a lot of fun.

No problem. Heres the only other shots I have of it. Judging from the legs, it looks like it may even semi-transform. I was surprised - the Danguard only sold for about $160 while the Grendi went for over $2K. Go figure.

I have both of these, as well as most of the "Pura Dera" or Pla Deluxe made up until 1986 or so. They got REALLY bad after that. As far as the Grendizer, it's not officially pura dera. I'm not sure the exact title but its something like power up flying Grendizer. Many of these early popy pieces came around before there was a series. The Dangard is officially puradera as it says it on the box. We've narrowed it down to the Dangard or the Battle Fever as the first in the series. I actually just got a new pladx recently. God Gear from God Mars: This is the series in its prime. We've been talking about doing a datafile on pladx for years. Maybe someday we'll get around to it. It would be a nice addition to the Toyboxdx.com datafiles, that's for sure. I think Duban and I have over 1000 pics..

1,000 pics? Damn, sounds like there must be a lot in this series (unless you've got 100s of each figure )! I have a boot of the Dangard, and yes, it transforms with parts swapping. I'd post pics, but the box with the spare parts is buried somewhere. I have many pics of others in this series, too. Erik, let me know if you need anything in particular, although it sounds like you probably have everything pretty well covered.

Nope. It's not labeled Pura Dera. In the the center says, "Daiza-go." I guess "Daiza" is the name of the ship? ("go" is just a suffix given to the names of ships).
