Also what you said about the shield not sitting flush....it seems to be a VERY minimal amount of space there....plus...with the packs on...you cannot even tell. Looked at the pictures again, and it's not the chest plate. it's the shoulder plates (eyes giving out... must be age). looks like the tips of the shield go under the shoulder plates. Hmmm.... I wonder if it's just the pictures, or how it was transformed, or because this is a prototype. Oh, and one more thing... TAMPO PRINT THE DAMNED MARKINGS ALREADY! More than likely you are correct about the mistransformation. That seems to happen all to often. About the Tampo.....maybe they just have not gotten around to the Tampo shots yet. I wonder what it will look like. Prob. pretty dope I bet.

Hmmm...after maximizing the images from that link you posted, I see that the shield is NOT under the shoulder plate like I initially thought, but rather it just doesn't sit parallel to the shoulder plates making it look like it's not flush.
Anywhoo, one of my favorite Valks, and hopefully it goes through the assembly line without any problems. ;D

DAYUM!!!!
That's a pretty ingeniuous design! The cockpit sinks flush into the fuslage, then the two part heatshield slides over from both ends! KEWL!
Thanks for posting!
Now... it's probably the price that'll make some of us stay away from it.

Now... it's probably the price that'll make some of us stay away from it. Yep. And it's also the price that will remind some of us how completely fukcing crazy we are.

I read on MW that there were some issues with the heatshield not closing properly. Very nice bird but for the price in this tough times, it will be hard to swallow if it had problems right out of the box.

What I've learned from years of Shoot-em-ups: You have to give enemy pilots an obvious target to aim for so they know your weak point, of course, hence the bright orange "SHOOT ME HERE" spot on the chest. They don't call them cannon fodder for nothing. Are you calling Batman cannonfodder?

For anyone concerned, the heatshield problem turned out to not be a problem at all. Each half of the heat shield has its own lock. Fellas just weren't using enough force.

Strange. Force would be the FIRST thing to come to mind when transforming a Yamato valkyrie*...
* the above statement is a lie

for all my gripes about yamato toys, expensive being one of them, they are the most beautifull vehicles in my toy collection.

I suppose since I fathered this thread I should follow-up on all of my previous anticipatory excitement by saying I finally got one last week and it's a pretty damn fantastic toy in every way. The painted details are immaculate, the parts are all nice and snug, and the transformation is not only easy but it's actually fun - something I'm not used to with Yamato valks. Hopefully Yamato will repaint the bejeezus out of this excellent toy for those of you who want it but don't like the dulltastic grey deco.

I've read that this valk (VF-11b) is one of the most trouble-free Yamato valks so far. Is this correct? I've stopped buying Yamato valks because I'm so afraid I'll break something in the transformation process (too many reports of broken shoulders, cracked plastic, etc.).
Is it true that there's virtually no die-cast metal?

Yes, it is probably the most trouble-free valk Yamato has produced so far. Aside from the lack of design flaws, the ease and simplicity of transformation should also cut down on the likiness of damage. It's solid, it's well made and it's fun.
I think some of the joint parts are metal, but I can't say for sure if they are die cast metal. Aside from that though it's all plastic, much like every other recent Yamato valk toy.
