I jujst dont know if i want to start getting any of these, im not a fan of geass or e7 at all, i do like the evas and i kinda missed alot of the gundams... so far only fmp looks worth it to me, but how is the playability with these, they look sturdier than revoltech. i dont want to be scared to pop a wrist off and doing permanent damage

Yes, these are great and sturdy toys. Waaaaay better than Revoltech. In terms of great figure lines, love these equally with Figma and SH Figuarts... but Revoltech has all the fabulous licences. Btw, I just got Eva Unit 01 and it's more of the same goodness as the Unit 02. Rather than a mouth that opens and closes, it comes with two heads. Also, the Soul of Chogokin Eva accessories seem to be compatible and fit nicely in their hands. I have my RD Unit 01 dual wielding the swords from my (obsolete) SoC Eva 01.

So.....does anyone here have a review of the new Robot Damashi Unit 01 figure yet? I'd like to know whether the horn on the figure is flimsy. Or say....whether the AT field accessory is made of sturdy plastic and not that cheap stuff that can be easily warped out of shape. Mine has yet to arrive and probably wont arrive for another week or two. Damn.... Growing impatient here......just like my lack of patience for the Eva 2.22 blu ray. Why does it have to be at the end of the month?

well it comes with a soft plastic fin but as with most RD figures there is a spare ABS fin to replace it but the one it comes packed with is fine.
AT field is bendable but very sturdy.
My only complaint...... why no katanas and why no hinged jaw? its annoying having to swap heads. Other than that its just as awesome as 02

I hate that these figures are so damn good >.< Crappy pic, go!I really appreciate that Bandai got creative with their design. The proportions are unlike any eva that's come before, and are a pretty major departure from the "broad chested hero bot" norm. The pose-ability is fantastic though, and despite the spindly limbs they're pretty easy to balance thanks to the rock solid joint design. Wonderfully tight ankles, and the way the footguards are designed and jointed is absolutely brilliant. A lot of thought went into these guys, I'll give Bandai that. I'm also 100% in for an Eva-00.

Eva 3 is when?!!? Also, what do you all think of the Super Robot Chogokin line up- since that's where we'll be getting RD sized Super Robots from? I'm surprised to see Shinkenoh and Gear Fighter in that line up since they were 2 of the most requested RDs during Tamashii Features...

Dang. I figured they would show EVA-00 (and hopefully others ) and give a release date. Strike Freedom is looking very nice. Except for the "gold" parts. Hopefully the final has a metallic look.

It's a pity that Eva-01 didn't come with swords, but the SOC's swords will do in a pinch;

Robot Damashi Evas ReviewEva figures have been popular with collectors and otaku ever since the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion finished airing on television in Japan. One of the first high quality Eva figures that came out were the HG Eva model kits that were released by Bandai during the late 1990s. Relatively easy to build and most importantly able to pose in a variety of poses (dynamic for their time) these were extremely popular back then and truth be told, even I invested in them when I was a teen many years ago. More than a decade has passed since then and many other toy/figure companies have stepped up to the plate to design and release their own Eva figures onto the market. Highly articulated figures with great details and paint jobs have now become an all consuming trend with companies like Kaiyodo releasing their Eva Revoltech products, with each release being better than the last. Bandai’s Robot Damashi action figure line has been hailed by many as being a toy line that is unlike any other with articulate figures that can pose more dynamically than even Revoltechs. The big selling point among many collectors is the ease at which the figures can be posed without the hassle of ratchet joints, like Revoltechs. Up until recently I have been a non-believer, since I have had terrible experiences with other Bandai products namely the aforementioned HG figures and Movie Realization Evas. Judging from the Japanese blog reviews, the figures also seemed rather cheap in design with molded coloured parts rather than an extensive paintjob. The ABS plastic used also looked cheap akin like to those of unpainted model kits. As evidenced below, these are the things that I knew were present with the Damashi’s that made me hesitate, preventing me from investing in them early on. For one thing as seen in the pictures below, the plastic pieces on the figures themselves “appeared to me” as being cheap due to unrefined rough surfaces, that were left over from the molding process. Furthermore the figures appeared semi-transparent, somewhat cheap don’t you think? These defects or what I assumed were defects are really rather insignificant as I soon found out. So anyways after being persuaded by Mechamasterj and others, I placed an order from Hobby Link Japan for both of these Robot Damashi Evas. I really had low expectations and didn’t really expect much out of them. They certainly couldn’t be any better than the Revoltech Evas right? Oh…..how wrong I was as I soon found out a week and a half later. I got the figures in the mail and well that’s why I have this group shot of the stuff. Proceeded to open Eva Unit 01 Accessories weren’t bad. They were decent as there were weapons, umbilical cable and alternate hands provided. I still had my doubts about whether my money was well spent, but that quickly evaporated as I picked up the figure and began toying with it. HONEST TO GOD…..I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS PLEASED WITH AN EVA FIGURE IN A LONG TIME. Honestly, as I began to pose this figure, it soon became apparent that this was a very sturdy and well designed figure. Gone were my worries of breaking the figure or thinking long and hard about what limitations the figure had before putting it in a new pose. Whatever, came to mind, I just did. And the joints. GOD ALL MIGHTY!!!! The joints on this thing are WONDERFUL!!! They are extremely fluid, easy to work with, durable, and amazingly intuitive to play with. Revoltech ratchet joints lets face it are a bit hard to play around with. And worse still they can be hard to manipulate and get stuck in the pvc plastic arms and legs. No such problems with Robot Damashi! These joints appear to be metal pins covered in plastic or some sort of rubber, making them easy to bend and articulate. Since the joints are all ball and swivel joints, its fairly durable and easy to move legs, arms, torso and heads. Case in point the Revoltechs are rather difficult to pose and have more of a learning curve to the average person/collector than the Robot Damashis. The shoulder pylons on the Robot Damashi Evas and the overall ABS plastic material used for the main bodies and limbs seem more sturdy than the freaking Revoltechs. With the Revoltechs I always think I’m going to break something if Im not careful with the figure. No such worries with Robot Damashi. Bandai even had the common courtesy to include extra horns for the Unit 01 figure. Best of all Robot Damashi, in addition to being more user friendly, can assume and be positioned in poses that Revoltechs could only dream of achieving. Really the Robot Damashi Evas are the ultimate in Eva action figures in this scale. If any of you fans wanted to get just one Eva figure in any toy line, including the expensive Bandai Chogokins, go for these Robot Damashi Evas. You wont be disappointed. Bandai really has come full circle since the 1990s when they first released their HG Eva Model kit line. Years later they are on top of their game with the Robot Damashi line. I have become a believer in this toy line and will continue to collect the Evas in this line. Makes me kind of regret purchasing the Revoltechs……*sigh* Robot Damashi with my RevoltechsRobot Damashi and RevoltechsNow for some more pics of my Robot Damashi figures in different poses. The reason why the proportions on these Evas are very different is due to the new movie designs. The recent Rebuild movie tetratrilogy, which is still not finished, had the Evas redesigned to look more lanky and slimmer. The old 1990s Eva designs had this odd wide shoulder and skinny anorexic torso. That has disappeared in these new designs. And yes I agree the Robot Damashi figures involved a lot of engineering and top notch design. Dang. I figured they would show EVA-00 (and hopefully others ) and give a release date. Strike Freedom is looking very nice. Except for the "gold" parts. Hopefully the final has a metallic look. Yeah I hope they make more announcements for this upcoming figure. Cuz it looks great.
