What is THE game to get you hooked in gaming?
What did it for you?

Warcraft 2 was the first big hook for me, and then Starcraft of course, although with all the Wizard games I really don't care much for the campaigns, I just go straight to battlenet or play against the computer.
Mechawarrior Vengance was also big for me in gaming when I discovered how customizable the piloting/weapons systems were. That made all the difference.

Pac-man on the old Atari 2600. First game I've ever remember seeing anyone play. I was probably no older than 3 years old.

Donkey Kong... Colecovision version (I didn't even know it was a port of an arcade game - I was too young to know what arcades were)... imagine my surprise a whole decade later when I tried the C64 port of the same game and discovered that there was a whole stage and lots of animations that were missing from the Colecovision version! After that there was a little gray-zone where I didn't really play lots of video games (I didn't even have an NES when all my friends had it). The next game that totally got me hooked again was Tetris. I couldn't put it down. In high school I kept it on a 3.5" floppy in my pocket to sneak into the labs to play on their DOS machines. After that... I think the next game to really capture me was Metal Gear Solid on the PS1. After that I just couldn't stop playing video games anymore.

Metal Gear Solid, FF tactics and Tekken on the PS 1 were the ones that really got me hooked into this addiction.

It was Sonic 2 on the Genesis that did it for me. I remember playing it at a friend's house, and then getting a Genesis for Christmas that year. I was so excited. I was Sonic obsessed all through grade school afterwards...every assignment in art class even ended up with Sonic in it, for years. It's been a hard pill to swallow having so few good games in the post-Dreamcast era... My gaming kinda trailed off for a few years around 2000, but a Greatest Hits version of FFIX I picked up at Target a few years later pulled me into RPG-land. There has been no escape.

I played the Jap. Dragon Quest VI during my childhood and never get to finish the game. Sad.
Played alot of DonkeyKong part 1-2-3. LOL. Monkey riding a Sword fish underwater was so cool and the rollercoaster stage was exciting.
Rockman 7 was the talk of my primary days.

When I was a kid, it was the games on Atari that started me off, in college it was Tekken and when I got my first PSX, it was Resident Evil 2, and Final Fantasy Tactics. everything went downhill from there.
Me and some friends even skipped some classes just to play Tekken. It was the "shieeeet" back then. ;D

Without a doubt, Pac-Man! Pac-Man was my earliest memory of being a "fan" of something, as I was only 3 when it came out in 1980. The first game system I had was the Atari 400, and I remember being so excited that Pac-Man looked so much like the arcade compared to the Atari 2600 version.
Fast Forward to 1987, and good ol' Super Mario Bros. on the NES kept my enthusiasm for video games strong well into the Street Fighter years of the SNES.
These days, the most up to date system I have is the GameCube, which I bought almost exclusively for Metroid Prime (Metroid has always been another huge fave of mine). I'm hoping the price of the Wii will come down soon, because I want my Metroid fix on that as well. :-P

Let's see, local pizza shops had Donkeykong, and DK Jr. But had to be Hudson's Adventure Island(or Island Boy), and Ghosts n' Goblins that kept me wasting tons of money in quarters.
Years later, I got an old NES, and BEAT that Ghosts n' Goblins sucker...MWAHhahaha!....oh, wait,...it's just a game. LOL
