"KOBE — A 135 million yen project is under way in Kobe to create a life-size statue of Tetsujin 28-go (Ironman No. 28), a popular robot “manga” character from the 1950s, as a symbol of the city’s recovery from the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. The 18-meter-tall, 50-ton statue will be erected in September in Wakamatsu Koen Park in Nagata Ward, one of the areas hit hardest by the quake that killed more than 6,000 local residents. The project is being coordinated by the nonprofit organization Kobe Tetsujin Project, a group of local shop owners. The cost is to be covered mainly with donations. The group chose the popular robot character because its creator, the late Mitsuteru Yokoyama, was a Kobe native." www.japantoday.com/category/national/view/kobe-to-get-ironman-statue All photo and text taken from Japantoday.com 1:1 Tetsujin > 1:1 RX-78 ;D

Awesome!
Is T-28 really only around 60 feet tall? That's smaller than I would have guessed...

Perhaps one day, they can put this one next to the recently unveiled Gundam.

how can you make a 1:1 statue of a robot whose size changes at random depending on who is drawing at the time? Sometimes he is massive, sometimes he is roughly 2 or 3 times taller than a human. seems kinda crazy.

update The head of tetsujin 28 has been unveil this week in July 27 2009 with a small ceremony and they have started to assemble the parts. the statue parts has been in construction for a month now and they hope to have it done at the end of September. The assemble of the statue will be made in the area where it will be put on, while it was said that the Statue was to be 18 meters tall, in reality it will be 15.3 meters tall because of the way he is posing, once the entire statue is up then they will work on painting it. Once its entirely done, the official inauguration ceremony will be in October 4 2009. here is a link if anyone wants to see more pics Tetsujin Statue in Progress

There going by the "official" stats, the same ones that say Mazinger Z is 18m, Grendizer is 30m and Getter Dragon is 50m but when seen in the anime there basically all the same size.
