Went to TRU today. They had the DS version. Its ok. I don't really like 3d games w/o two joy sticks. Its movement sort of compensates for the lack of a second stick. It seems and looks decent for a DS game, but I really want to play the PS3 version.

So I got to play Transformers: WFC at best buy on Xbox. I played a couple stages for about 10 minutes. It was fun, however I think I am going to cancel my preorder and get it later for less. The graphics were not as great as I hoped, and I don't have a grasp on the ammo system which actually kind of annoyed me. I did not notice grenades, and I think it needs them. It was cool though to be firing at an enemy then jump into tank mode and blow them up. Playing as a jet reminds me of starfox. I feel that jet should be able to hover and fly when in robot mode too. I also wish there was more controller customization. Maybe after playing it more I can be more excited about it, but I have so much going on right now I am just not in as much of a hurry to play this game. It was fun, but not w/o flaws.

I'll probably do the same. I can't bring myself to buy video games at $60 a pop now. $40 or less is the sweet spot for me.

That is just silly.
Someone rented the game for me, so I may start playing it this weekend after finals.

It seems like a pretty good game but I still think they missed the mark. I think for me you need to make a Transformers game with G1 characters and have a Action RPG style game. I think to many developers get caught up in the whole transformation gimmick and miss out on the fact that most Transformers fans are more into the story and characterization of the various Transformers. The transformation gimmick is why we buy the toys but it's the story and characters which makes us fans.

WFC is a pretty alright game, but I'm not into Transformers to see robots running around and shooting things, then turning into cars to race through a tunnel to shoot more things. It just doesn't feel special, more like a different skin on a game I've played before. A game with more story and more substance would be a welcome change. I agree that Action-RPG would be a better genre for the franchise.

MY gripe is with the Ammo system. That is the reason I don't have the game yet.

I like it. Better than previous TF games, to be sure. It's also very, very pretty. Short, though. Veeeerry short.

MY gripe is with the Ammo system. That is the reason I don't have the game yet. What about the ammo system? I was always running out, but I figured that's mostly because I kind of suck at this type of game. Once you get a gun with some kind of scope it's easier to keep enough ammo on hand and still take out your opponents. For me anyway. Also, you mentioned a lack of grenades in an earlier post: The game does have them...I think three or four types. They're in little cylinders that kinda look like they have dynamite on the sides.

I only played it for 10 min, and did not find grenades, so I just assumed their were not any. As for the ammo system, it should regenerate or have more ammo drops. I found myself scavenging for ammo quite a bit. At first I thought it was because I did not understand the game since I just demoed it at Bestbuy, but gamespot mentioned in their review that the ammo system was horrible too, verifying my thoughts. I was hoping that might be addressed in an update. You have to relying on enemies dropping ammo, I would rather face a harder AI with more ammo, then a dumb AI and low ammo. I am curious how ammo is handled in multiplayer since that is what I would likely play the most.

Playing through the entire game, I never had a problem with Ammo. I mean, MAYBE when playing as Megatron I would run out of his fusion cannon, but considering the FC is a nearly a one-hit kill with a lot of enemies, that's pretty sensible. There's also TONS of ammo cases smattered all over the various levels.
I would imagine that in multiplayer you wouldn't have to worry about ammo much, since like most MP shooters you are likely to die and respawn with full ammo before you put a dent into your reserves.

I'll give it a better look over once the price comes down. Maybe I get too trigger happy or something.

Alright, someone rented the game for me and I just beat it. Its not bad. The ammo is not at bad as I had thought, but you do have to sometimes abandon a weapon completely when it runs out, but there is always another weapon around to pick up. The game was fun for the most part, but the autobot campaign was more fun for me than the Decepticons. As for the story... it could have been fleshed out a little better. Especially since this is going to be the official history. I was pretty sick of Megatron by the end of his run. He seemed a bit more rash than I expected for a "cunning" leader who takes over an entire planet. I do wish their was a final battle that better tied the exodus to earth. I also wish some of the cinemas were slightly longer so they could get more of the details out. I also was a bit disappointed in Zetas death scene. The memory of Megatron talking about ripping his spark out, is what i expected.
As for the multiplayer. Its not bad. There are not many people in the lobbies and the menu system is glitchy as hell, as well as the server communication. The modes are alright, but something about the damage and combat does not feel as precise as say MW2 or Halo. You have to rely on a lot of different attacks and abilities if you want to be top in the match. You can't just duck and fire and rely on your ability to dodge and shoot to do well. Combat is much more close range, and the addition of a radar could make the game much better.
So all in all, it is the best TF game. Its even better than Armada, which I considered the best TF game before. Its not perfect. Its maybe a 7.5-8/10 on my rating scale.
