This is Second figure in the Armor plus line. Most people know him as Ryo from Ronin Warriors show that aired on Cartoon Network way back when.
If you ever had the pleasure to mess around with one of Bandai’s SH Figuarts (and even Saint Saiya which is what all SH is based off of) figures then you should be familiar with the base figure because its like every figure in this line in terms of design and articulation. So that means strong diecast, like the feet shown here.
……and ABS/ PVC for everything else. He comes with 2 katanas, 1 double katana, 1 spike fist attachment, and two sheathed katanas (only hilts are removable). I was surprised at this move because all they really needed was 2 katanas that were sheathe-able and attachable. So, instead you get three blade sets, which prove useful.
So what separates this from the rest of the gang? The armor, of course, which adds more diecast content to the figure. Also Ryo has added wrist articulation as well, which is nice for a katana wielding Hero.
I took several pictures of Ryo without armor because I thought it would restrict his movement quite a bit, which is common for these type of figures, but I was mistaken. The armor doenst hinder much movement whatsoever. Only the mid section is slightly hindered. Also, make sure the shoulder armor snaps in place or they will fall off all every time you move the arms.
Armor is pretty easy to attach to figure and it stays on. Only difficulty I had was attaching the little black taps to the side skirts and then placing them over the tabs on the pelvic armor. It’s a bit tricky the first time but once you figure it out it’s a cinch. (also I don’t care for the face so I used the black head instead, one day I plan on painting the eyes gold or something).
Since Ryo comes with some many blades you can have him wielding dual double katanas… sweet!
Of course the added weight means he can’t hold as many cool positions without a stand but still I am pleased with how things turned out.
There can only be ONE!
What’s left after transformation
Looks pretty stupid actually. I wish Bandai made the black figure had a few more joints, it may have proved a bit more useful, but at least it stores the unused bits, except for the spare face.
Overall, very solid figure, I was expecting the armor to pop off left and right when handling but rarely happened. He has great balance so you don’t have to worry about him falling over either. It’s a great figure, and if you’re a fan of the series, I highly suggest picking one up. I do hope they
