my imagination INDEED! i had the cards and the toys, and i used to dream of how he was part of the trilogy. In one scenario, i had this be the future Voltron and the pilots were children of the 1st two Voltron pilots (Keith+Alura had baby) along with the Lion Force Golion being piloted by other heirs and upgraded (more jagged looking) and the Vehicle Voltron ....anyways, the lack of information made for much speculation.

@ Falconhood:If that vision had been the way you imagined, the trilogy would've turned out to be one helluva saga- ranked right up there in the Space-opera category with series such as "Spacecruiser Yamato" and "Robotech". zozo-Magengar

I was sharing these pics on a different Albegas thread, but then thot it would be more fitting to post these and share these here. I've had these cards since the 1980s, but i JUST made these scans last night. i'm missing some cards, obviously, anyone got them? I have more sheets, but I'm pretty sure they are just doubles of these...and the last ones are actually from other anime, like CALENDAR MAN(YATTA MAN)...right? They were like freebies to get me interested in other series, but i was only hungry for more info on Albegas.

That's a nice card set there; reminds me of the old Mazinger-Z trading cards with the nice crispy images. Those monster characters look interesting, I think I'll have a look at some of these episodes and see wazup. Thanks for the links and pics. zozo-Mag

I hate them! they won't make DVDs of the series, and they won't allow it to be shown online. It's like a treasure that is being kept from man.

You may be right about the "Lost Voltron" (Dairugger)... ...I've seen comments about him at Youtube, just a few folks stating they never liked him. I always thought he was cool... during the week I watched the Lion Voltron version on tv, and on Saturday mornings the Vehicle Voltron was broadcast on the same channel and I'd watch that one as an alternative while anticipating the next Lion Voltron week-day episodes.

I'd like one in combined mode that doesn't separate, much like the MATTEL Voltron released months ago(not sure when, I got mine this summer). I'd like that Articulation and maybe removeable arms so he can have 6 arms, but doesn't HAVE to have them

My thoughts on this guy, as I accidentally started this in another section, not realizing this thread existed, so I will copy an pasted my thoughts on this great piece of Voltron history.... Albegas (as he was originally known) is a real six armed bad a@$ in my estimation. Notice two links, one English an the other not. I like the Japanese version, as it has the early part where one of the three pilots is enjoying some tasty lunch when a ro-beast pops up on the radar in space. I know I hate it when I am trying to eat lunch and I have to drop everything in order to rid the Universe of such ro-beast vermin.... Note, rocket backpack which I think would be a nice addition in a Chogokin remake release, as well as that double bladed staff weapon. I like how he takes his three part sword and runs the ro-beast thru before opening up a can of chest rocket whuuuup a#$, lol. No doubt, my fav of the Voltron line. An how lame is matchbox for not adding any weapons an accessories. I would much prefer like the version below which will be my 3rd link. This guy here only sells Voltron by the way, love that angle lol. I told my buddy at work about that an he laughed like all get out an said..."You mean he has nothing else in his store, only Voltron you gotta be kiddin me? The Voltron lions from the early 80's?" I was like yes sir, just Voltron stuff. I would like to pop soon on this Albegas, but the price is a bit STTEEEEP for this ol guy, and it is missing a key top section of the three piece sword unit, which is to sweet IM robot O, lol.... www.ebay.com/itm/300645789746?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649Why did he have six arms which made me think he was designed in that essence of perhaps like some of the famous six armed God like figures from our past cultures, yet in old cartoon only two displayed? I like to think for myself that he could form them like his weapons out of thin air when need be, as this gives me peace of mind, lol.... Lastly, why did he get the Voltron II title in America. Simple, this cartoon never took off over here, as it ran for like one season in limited channels an access, even though matchbox did try an get a piece of the pie, taking the concept and making him into Voltron II. I also hear the matchbox design is far less superior to the nice Japanese version I want like pictured in 3rd link, esp blue unit.... I may buy that bad boy yet, an try an custom design that third sword section, as I am good with stuff like that. Would be neat find an craft a similar like double bladed staff from another modern day Chogokin set, just to add to it for display....

Just to clarify, as I was saying a few pages back, Albegas NEVER made it to American television. WEP licensed it along with Daltanius and Dairugger intending to make a Robotech-like trilogy.
According to the documentaries included in the first-run of the Voltron DVDs, WEP asked for the "robot with the lion" and they received Golion instead of Daltanius. So that became "Voltron" season 1, which, as we know, became a smash hit. Then they started Voltron season 2 using Dairugger but it was nowhere near as popular as Lion Voltron... This is where WEP made anime history: they scrapped plans for season 3 with Albegas and commissioned ALL-NEW footage of Lion Voltron... (that's why you may notice characters look a little different in the later episodes compared to the footage taken from Golion). But by then it was too late - Matchbox had already started releasing Albegas toys under the Voltron brand.

I thought I had saw Magengar say he saw it on for a short time period, but on re-read looks like it was the Dairugger version that he watched while waiting for the next weeks Lion version episode.... Oh well looking to the future, new age writers/artists should look to doing new modern versions with modern day tech applied. I have a feeling it would have a stronger chance of survival, if this next generation would take the interest to it. OR AT-LEAST a Chogokin re-release as I would buy that, any plans perhaps? I was a robot lover from a real early age, as I recall my friends getting mad at me and giving me a hard time in an around 1983-85, every time we were playing football, basket ball, riding bikes whatever, and I was like.... "Voltron's is gonna be on at 5, I gotta go, c ya!" lol....

I think the great universal thing that makes these cartoons great for me via memory, is the form up stage, which is the same with all 3 cartoons, even the Albegas version that never played in the USA. Its so square an chezy, yet so elegant at the same time, lol....
"If you form the legs, I will get the torso. Yes, I have formed the torso, now I will form the head!"
I know that is not it word for word, but man I love that sequence what a great memory....
