auction has ended......i didn't believe my eyes when I saw the final winning bid.
to put it in perspective, 6 people were willing to pay $1,000USD plus for that figure, and two of them were willing to pay over $2,000USD for it. Insane.

The price doesn't surprise me, it's a limited figure signed by the Godfather of Anime in fact I'm surprised it didn't go for more. Hell I had a signed card of Uma Thurman from the Batman movie and sold that on Ebay a few years ago for over $700USD so the power of celebrity is a powerful thing. It would be like Walt Disney signing a limited Micky Mouse toy.

It would be like Walt Disney signing a limited Micky Mouse toy. Hmmm, since you put it that way, those 100 signed figures will be worth a LOT MORE after Go Nagai kicks the bucket! ;D Fortunately for me and my wallet, I could care less for Go Nagai's signed anything... I love the robot, but truly despise the creator. ;D }D

I for sure do not have the means to spend so much one 1 single piece. So I'd just wait for GX-45C to be available on Tamashii web. It's the toy that matters more to me.

If you have never bought a mazinger, which chogokin would you recommend getting for the first and only one?

Gx-45 would've been perfect if it had been a bit taller to compliment the other SOCs. I think the GX-01R+ Tamashii expo exclusive is still the most idea Mazinger for me.
BTW, anyone know if the the Gx-45C is indeed coming out on Tamashii?

I think it was stated that GX-45C would be a Web exclusive later on but I don't know if that was confirmed.
As for only getting one Maz figure, I still think GX-01R is the best all around Maz figure you can get. Tons of diecast and accessories plus you can find them dirt cheap on Ebay, plus it's based on the classic and IMHO the best version of Mazinger Z. It may not be as poseable as GX-45 or as pretty as GX-01R+ but it's a perfect example of why the SOC line is one of the greatest diecast toy lines ever.

Response few days ago, Tamashii release confirmed : ...Edit : 1st run will be between 3000 and 5000 pieces. I am waiting news from Bandaï staff about the date of the release (and maybe a surprise with the answer)... ^__^

I totally agree with Chen, Hands Down. The GX-01R is my first and only SOC I bought so far. As soon as it arrived to me I felt like I was being certified as Japanese Robot Toy Collector. It felt like a badge of honor. The feeling was better than getting my GED, and my Honorable Discharge, combined. It made me feel like a real member here at RJ. It significantly broke me into this hobby. I'm proudly "devirginized" by this one SOC. ;D I like to call it "the Perfect Mazinger"... not too posey, and not to pretty; but straight to the point, and damn sure Faithful to the robot's original tv anime character. After the GX-01R, and the GX-02R, I don't think I could tolerate any more SOC Maz remakes and reissues and whatever. zozo-Magengar I think it was stated that GX-45C would be a Web exclusive later on but I don't know if that was confirmed. Interesting how this thing is already fetching near GX-01RB prices, just wait till Go Nagi actually dies, the autographed ones would likely sky rocket to crazy heights....that's celebrity power for you.
The hard time I had justifying getting GX-45A due to its premium over the standard GX-45 pales in comparision to this....

I guess it seems that way. I'd hate to imagine the possible Riots taking place just snatch this one up after he's gone... and of course the hawkers would try to re-sell them at even Higher prices. zozo-Magengar Interesting how this thing is already fetching near GX-01RB prices, just wait till Go Nagi actually dies, the autographed ones would likely sky rocket to crazy heights....that's celebrity power for you.....
