Yeah, they suck. I'd be a pissed off kid as well.. LOL! Even when I see the legit releases of these, I instantly think of the KO. Pretty sad.

The Robo Kress wasn't a bad toy, but as you can see from the pictures he's a fairly solid guy, not a lot of mystery to him as a figure. When I got the Mazinger and especially Reideen for Christmas these two sent my imagination going as a kid because I didn't know anything about them. I just saw them in the store and told my parents that was what I wanted for Christmas, so when I got them I endlessly inspected all the little parts and details imagining what these guys were all about. Robo Kress was fairly simple playing next to these guys and seemed like a toy in my childhood mind, where the Shogun Warriors were like robotic jewels or something.

In terms of quality, I will have to sat that the worst vintage toy is Chogokin/Godaikin Gardian. This beautiful toy had poor leg designs; therefore the legs were notorious to break during constant play. Heck, I even heard stories that legs came broken right out of the box.
Bandai corrected this design flaw with Baikanfu. The Chogokin Baikanfu was a redesigned Gardian, and you will notice how the legs were heavily modified specially on the larger robot.

cff is totally right. Gordian is the suck. LOVE the toy. Actually my first DX Chogokin in Japanese box bought at Mikado here in SF Japantown for $40... Knees were good on mine, BUT I've had well over a half dozen over the years and they have all been sh*t with broken knees and not to mention the cheap plastic in the moveable arms. Great thought was put into this, and honestly I've thought about asking Matt to hook me up with the designer on my last Japan trip but we ran out of time. We visited Saito-san instead. Either way, I LOVE and hate that toy equally.. Good talk. BTW. Here is what I scored off the news groups in what Ed and I call "The great Godaikin score" of 1998.. Lots of Garbins.. toyboxdx.com/brog/?p=2882

For me it was getting a Star Mite...the ones made by Empire the darned thing had horrible casting quality and loose screws. Oh, and a screwey design compared to Shogun Warriors.

I'd never heard that - do you still have the Bismark in that picture? Wondering if that's one of the elusive godaikin versions?!
