I got a GD-45M 2003 Mechagodzilla (Kiryu) a while ago. Now I want to give it a Godzilla to fight.
I ordered an Ultimate Monsters 2 trading figure, the injured variant. Its looks great. I knew it was a big short, only 4.5 or 5 inch tall (depending on the source), but it was in a squatted stance so maybe it wouldn't look so out of place next to my diecast Kiryu. Wrong. A single inch makes a huge difference at this size. Mechagodzilla towered over him. That didn't work.
Next I bought a 6" Bandai 2005 (Final Wars) Godzilla vinyl. Its scale is perfect and it looks fine. The only problem is that it's from the wrong movie. And movie-accuracy nerdiness aside, I prefer the more aggressive looks of the previous version. This one will do the job if I can't find anything better, but if there was a "X Mechagodzilla / Tokyo SOS" version in the same collection, I'd prefer that one. I looked, but I couldn't find one in the right scale. I saw taller and shorter, but no ~6 inch one.
So, what would be the best Godzilla figure to put next to the chogokin Kiryu?

I'm definitely not the most qualified to help here, but I had a look around on ClubTokyo and eBay. So far I haven't found a 2003/Kiryu-Goji in scale. My GD-57m is hanging out with the Banpresto Final-Goji, but the whole shelf is already all over the place in terms of scale. I'll keep an eye out though; I'd like to have one in scale too. As other options, you could always pick of the Mechagodzilla I or II or Gigan from the same line. I think they're all in scale, at least. However, if you just really like Tokyo SOS Godzilla, I did find this, which IMO looks amazing: www.hlj.com/product/XPS00737Not cheap though, and way out of scale with the GD-Kiryus

Wow! Wow! Just... wow! The price is "wow", too, yeah... but it does look amazing. I didn't want to buy any Godzilla other than a 6 inch 2003, but this one is really tempting. I won't buy it right now, but I'll certainly keep an eye on it. If I find a good deal, I might go for it. It seems that one would be the right size : www.hlj.com/product/BAN911803HLJ calls it "Sound Godzilla 2003". There's a guy on Youtube who shot a review of it. He calls it "DX roaring 2003 Godzilla", but I don't see any "DX" on the box and there's another figure called "DX Godzilla 2003" that is much taller. Whatever it's called, it's long discontinued and I can't find it anywhere. Great...

Have you looked in ToysRUs? I've seen the Bandai Creations Godzilla Millenium 6 inch vinyl figure there from time to time... You can also find it in www.Amazon.com for about $15 USD. ;D }D

Kiryu-Goji has never received a 6" vinyl figure. It's very unfortunate, since the other modern Godzilla Chogokin have opponents available in the correct size.
I've never seen that small electronic Kiryu-Goji before, which looks neat. Articulated monster figures have always been one of my greatest desires, yet this one slipped right past me. I can't imagine it will be easy to locate at all, but I'll see what I can find.
In the meantime, I suppose you can make do with Bandai Creation's Millenium Godzilla or some other 6" figure. No other choice.

Found another one, this one's R/C. At 7", he should be very close to Kiryu's height! www.clawmarktoys.com/product_info.php?products_id=4476(Still not cheap though) I got my Godzilla vinyls at kmart for 4.50 each! Now they are back to 9 dollar clearance. Clearance toys were 50% off couple of weeks ago Are they by the other toys or in a clearance aisle somewhere? I'll have to go to Kmart again, I've never seen any Godzilla stuff there. Just year-old Transformers for 150% of MSRP.

I know my Kmart eliminated the Godzilla stuff just recently, probably missed them on clearance, but they've carried the Godzilla figures locally for some time. Often sporadically, but the then-recent series with Destoroyah, Hedorah, Godzilla 1968 and Millennium lasted a good year, year and a half.
That RC Godzilla is probably going to turn out the same way the Ultimate Solid did, only the other way around. You'd be surprised how much difference an inch makes in scaling these figures to one another.

Good luck with that. I have not found a suitable match. I stopped displaying that way anyway, so it's fine if there is no scaled match. Just buy a bunch more Mecha Godzilla figures, and display them all together like I did. Scale stops mattering.

You'd be surprised how much difference an inch makes in scaling these figures to one another. That's too bad about the clearance. Maybe my Kmart never carried them, either that or I'm totally oblivious. I think I'll have one one look anyway, since I'm pretty sure that nobody has ever shopped at my local Kmart. Regarding the size of the R/C Goji, I'm not sure what you mean. I'm not trying to be contradictory, but unless Clawmark is very imprecise in their measurement I think it should be almost exactly the same height as chogo-Kiryu (within 1/4 inch, unless my GD-57 is a different height than GD-45). Good luck with that. I have not found a suitable match. I stopped displaying that way anyway, so it's fine if there is no scaled match. Just buy a bunch more Mecha Godzilla figures, and display them all together like I did. Scale stops mattering. I do something similar, although I don't have the volume yet to have entire displays of each character. Give scale the boot and display the impossible, robot-japan! (/gurren lagann)

Even if they're spot on, 7" would be too tall. Not by much, but enough to look wrong, I think. To be in scale, Godzilla should be between 6" and 6 1/2". Bandai's "6-inch" Godzilla 2005 is exactly 1/8 of an inch over 6 and it looks perfect to me. Perfect size, wrong Godzilla. Thanks for the help, everyone. I think I'll just stick with my 6inch Final Wars Godzilla. Maybe I'll look for a Godzilla 2000 of the same size, if I can get over its mutant frog face. I think they went a bit overboard when they redesigned the Big G for the new millennium. The 2003 suit had a similar body (love the oversized fins), but they toned down the hell-fiend look on its face a notch, which made it look much better, IMO. Here's some giant monster love : Daaaaaaw... ;D
