Wow I love Great Mazinger, Grendizer's my boy but there's something about Great that really catches the eye. I think it's the simple design but with all the sharp edges to it.

I had a meeting yesterday with Namco Bandaï product staff at Japan expo 2010 in Paris. They show me the mazinger and great mazinger prototypes... ^__^ It was prototypes, so the articulations were very lax. I was very happy to discover this new line but no GX-54 was on display. They only show the Socs they proposed threw Bandaï-collector french web shop. There was also tons of Myth Cloth... Fix Fig Unicorn... ver. ka... I am sorry for the few pictures I took, I was very busy with my appointments. I also was introduced to the Jumbo brother ! (mine is on it's way...) -> some pics here !

Thank you, Lejam, for these new pics; they're awesome!
The prototypes look nice. I hope the actual releases look just as good or Better than the protos. I really like the metallic paint on the limbs of these SRC specimens, that metallic tone used for the entire limb/waist armor looks better than the half-metalic/half-chrome scheme used in the earlier SOCs, in my honest opinion.
Their posing here being lacked is expected, since the prop crew has to set these up quickly before the show: they don't have much time to get creative with posing these prototypes for display. As you can see on MZ's back, the protos are marked for this showcase so that they're not mixed up with the actual retail items.
Looking closely at the back side of Mazinger-Z's shin... ...down below the calf... I see what looks like a squared panel-line, like a "box"... I wonder if that's just a panel-line effect for the leg armor, or if it pops open for some accessory attachment? That would be unlikely of Mazinger-Z, since he's never had anything attached to his legs in the anime.
But then I could be wrong: that shin may also have been the same Cast Mold used to make Great Mazinger's shins for his leg rudder attachments... What do y'all think, guys?

yes the stand at bandai colection was truly wonderful to see , with a lot of diorama and item not for sale .
The super robot chogokin prototype are very good , it don't fell plastic at all it's like a mini soul of chogoking , the posing are like that because it was easiest for the staff to put them back up if they fall (and they fall sometime during the festival because people sometime crashed into the glass self to see the myth cloth behind ) .
For magengar , i don't remember seeing a box on the back of the leg of the mazinger other than the collapsible panel for greater range of articulation, but i'll recheck the picture i take of the prototype

It's that panel on the back of his left leg, behind the calf, down near the back of the heel.

I think those are just screw hole covers. The panels are also present in Mazinger's buttcheeks. ;D
I wonder if eventually all of the screw holes will have covers?

Covers would be great! However, I doubt Bandai would be so kind. Remember the GX-01? It came with glossy stickers to cover the screw holes on the figure. However, that was the first and last time they were included in the SOC line. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worse...

Myself, I can live without screw covers. They're all well and good until you need to open the toy up to repair a joint or something, and then ... catastrophe

I don't mind screw holes. Like Quinjester stated, sometimes ya gotta open the figure to repair something. I enjoy opening figures just to see how they're assembled, and to study their joints system.
My ol' yamato Giant Robo (bazooka verion) diecast figure had tiny rubber screwhole caps to match the figure's paint. I found them to be a pain in the screwhole dealing with them lil tiny caps, so I zipped them in a jar. ;D

OK Bandai.
Vary nice figure and accessories (and Great Maz is really awesome too). Impressive finish and articulations.
Now please make them standard old SOC size and weight (18cm for Maz, no less, and Great Maz in scale).
Just do it and I'm sold.

What the hell happened to the nice red color of the chest plates?!!! They changed it to nail polish metallic red instead? Great, more parts I will have to repaint... As far as the stand, I guess it turned out to be a piece of foam, hmmm... Wow, Bandai is going all out on this line! The figure rules thou, and that's all that matters... ;D }D

I like the candy apple red! It was one of the few things I liked about the Fewture Mazinger - the nice metallic paint job on the chest plates. Too bad the rest of the figure wasn't impressive enough to justify keeping it.

And quinjester, can you elaborate on that? I had always heard the Fewter Maz was a nice toy?? I was thinking about getting one but if it's not worth the price maybe not...

Well, you can always paint my toenails... ...I'll clip 'em off and send 'em in the mail, toe-jam included. You want 'em sent SAL or EMS? ;D Just kidding. I'll have to get used to that metallic red color chestplate. I wonder if it was painted that way for a lighting effect? (Hopefully, the fig will include extra normal red chestplates? (...too much wishful thinking for this specimen, already) zozo-Magengar What the hell happened to the nice red color of the chest plates?!!! They changed it to nail polish metallic red instead? As for the stand, if it's made of styrofoam, geez, anyone can make a styrofoam stand with any ol piece of foam, or that canned "Great Stuff"*** insulation foam.
***How 'bout someone make a stand shaped like a pile of sh*t with Great Stuff, and paint it "Doo-doo Brown", with realistic wrinkles, cracks, and crevices! (Flies are optional) ;D

I don't really care about the stand... but using styrofoam?
Come on Bandai, a piece of plastic can't be that expensive.

And quinjester, can you elaborate on that? I had always heard the Fewter Maz was a nice toy?? I was thinking about getting one but if it's not worth the price maybe not... Don't want to get too OT, but okay - Compared to the Getters, the Mazingers lacked the solid feel of a big, diecast toy. The joints were all very hollow and "clanky" feeling, like that of a large Yamato plastic figure. This was compounded by the fact that all the diecast felt cheap and hollow - I never got around to taking the figure apart before selling it, but I would venture to guess that most of the diecast was in the form of external plates wrapped around plastic instead of the solid blocks that formed the Getters. Likewise, the sculpting simply wasn't there - you can tell that Sato's loss was a big blow to Fewture's sculpting quality. While the Getters were loaded with details, the Mazinger is fairly bare. Big, smooth surfaces with nothing but a few screw holes to make them stand out. The Getters had removable chest details with detailed interiors, removable generator pieces, and came with nicely made Get machine accessories. Mazinger felt bare in comparison. On top of that, the chest plates (nice though they looked) wouldn't stay on, the legs were designed so that they would rub against the "butt" plate in many poses, damaging the finish, and the scrander would NOT stay on in many cases, come hell or high water. Overall, the toy just didn't FEEL high quality like past releases did, and certainly not worthy of the astronomical price the Fewture releases command.
